Meet the 2013-2014 Exec. Board Members

Jordan Travis Campbell

- Senator & Programs Chair

Jordan is a Sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering. His hobbies include playing basketball, playing the drums, and listening to music.

Nuvi Babila Njinimbam

- Academic Excellence Chair

Nuvi is a Sophomore majoring in Bioengineering. His hobbies include playing basketball, playing soccer, reading, and listening to music.

There is over 30 million dollars in

scholarships available just on NSBE’s

national website. National dues must be

paid to apply for those scholarships. There

is also a scholarship exchange being

created by Clemson’s NSBE chapter. If

you know of any scholarships do not

hesitate to bring them to a general body

Scholarship Recipients

Hope Kenya is fulfilling the Legacy ($1,000) Scholarship Award. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate members who epitomize NSBE's mission statement to produce culturally responsible black engineers, who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. The number of available scholarships is determined by the amount of money donated to the fund by the membership as well as private donations. NSBE thanks all of the members, private donors, and donating companies for their contribution to this scholarship fund.

Mikailia Smith is a NSBE Major Sponsors Scholar ($1,500). Award selections were based on the selection criteria of University Academic Achievement, Service to NSBE (Chapter, Regional, and/or National), other Professional, Campus, and Community Activities, and the applicants’ response to an essay question.

Toni-Ann Fancy- Denton

- Telecommunications Chair & Business Chair

Toni is a Junior majoring in Computer Engineering. Her hobbies include playing sports, drawing, singing, and service.

Scholarship Recipients

Bryanna Saunders is a NSBE Fellows Scholar ($1,000). This Scholarship Program is a three tiered-scholarship program that provides scholastic motivation to achieve and serves as a tool to encourage members to continue to strive for academic excellence, while developing professional and leadership skills through organization and community involvement. The awards are given to student members who have demonstrated high scholastic performance, dedicated service to the society and other organizations, and who possess high professional promise.

Advice from Graduating

Seniors

Courtney Anderson will be receiving a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Industrial Engineering in May. She leaves the following advice to NSBE Members:

- Utilize NSBE as much as possible to gain the full experience and benefits.

- Make sure to attend National Convention to network during the Career Fair, which involves on the spot interviews.

Ricky Sease will be receiving a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering in May. He leaves the following advice to NSBE Members:

“No matter how difficult obtaining your degree may be, don’t give up. While you are in college, be open to challenging projects and be sure to acquire skills that are hard to get outside of school. For those of you who are unsure of your career interests, choose the path that keeps the most doors open. Good Luck!!”

Members Christopher Berry

- PCI Co-Chair

Christopher is a Graduate student in Automotive Engineering. His hobbies include training, reading, cooking, learning Spanish, and working on his car.

- Historian and TORCH Chair

Tiana is a Freshman in General Engineering. Her hobbies include listening to music, playing basketball, running, and drawing.

CH2MHill Impact on NSBE

A portion of our NSBE mission says to ”...succeed professionally…”. One company in particular has been going over and beyond to help the Clemson NSBE Chapter fulfill our mission, CH2M Hill. Instead of just one company presentation CH2M Hill has worked to create a series of five Networking Sessions throughout the school year. Discussion topics included: Career Development, Interviewing, Construction Management, Instrumentation & Controls, and Leadership. On every occasion they come on campus they bring a football team of professionals, usually from various disciplines. This created a welcoming atmosphere and allowed conversation to flow.

The Kickoff Networking session in October 2012 with Mrs. Michelle Stradford, the Vice President and Associate Director for Industrial and Advance Technology from Cincinnati, OH delivered a remarkable presentation. Other speakers from this year are Mr. Stephen Murphy, Mr. Steve Crum, and Mr. Don Cooley all of them have left an imprint on our lives.

foundation- an African American special interest group. CH2M Hill is not a company we partner with anymore. They are more than that. CH2M Hill has

become a part of our Clemson NSBE Family.

Pre- Collegiate Initiative (NSBE Jr.)

PCI meets every Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at LittleJohn Community Center off Old Greenville Highway. NSBE mentors children in the 6th through 12th grade. Mentors help with homework and guide them in their projects. It is still not too late to become a mentor. Pre-Collegiate Initiative can always use your help. Not only do you gain community service but you earn NSBE points too.

Visit from Dr. Carl Mack

39th Annual National Convention

Pre- Collegiate Initiative

Five PCI students competed in the Science Fair. Three of them placed in the national competition. Jeremy Crosby placed 1st Place in the Middle School Science Fair with his project "Jack It Up" that was about the power of Hydraulics This is Jeremy's 3rd time winning 1st place at the National level. Dominique Edwards placed 1st Place in the High School Science with her project "Future so Bright Gotta Wear Shades" that tested which is more efficient: incandescent light bulbs or LEDs. Dominique is a Senior graduating from TL Hanna High School. Dominique will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University this August. Tonye Hale placed 3rd Place in the Middle School Science Fair with her project "Crystal Light", which tested the minerals in water. Kiana Reese and Dominique Haymond also competed in Science Fair and Represented Tri-County very well. Talon Hawthorne, Keenan Powell, Ronnie Jordan, and Jeremiah Martin competed in Engineering Design. They made a lot of progress in the last few days before the convention. Their Lego mindstorm competition was to essentially have a robot that could play basketball.

Dr. Carl B. Mack is the Executive Director of NSBE, Founder of NSBE’s Summer Engineering Experience for Kids, a Civil Rights Leader, a NAACP Life Member, NSBE Life Member, a Motivational Speaker, and on the Board of Trustees for the Society of Automotive Engineers and Clarkson University. He came to visit the Clemson Chapter of NSBE during NSBE’s Edition of Engineering Week where he gave the keynote address on Black History. He spoke on the History of Black History Month: The Shortest Month/Year, Why Study Black History Month, From First to Worst: White wash him out, Confederate Flag: Racism Still Flying, Reparations: I Didn’t Do It So Why Should I Pay, and The Nigger/Nigga/Niggah in Me is DEAD. Overall, Dr. Mack’s visit was greatly appreciated and left a huge impact on the Clemson Chapter of NSBE.
