Clear Pools: Tips for Beating the Effects of Inclement Weather As much as we love the way our grass and flowers flourish after a good downpour, our swim- ming pools don’t always “weather” the rain quite as well. With regard to rain and swimming pool/spa clarity, our motto is, “be proactive rather than reactive.” A few simple actions will help keep your pool sparkling in the face of inclement weather. If you have an automatic cover, make sure to always pump any standing water from the cover and remove any extraneous debris. If standing water is not pumped from the cover, it will it enter the pool and cover pit. By removing water and debris you will pre- vent organic material and phosphates from entering the pool or clogging cover pit. Ad- ditionally, the weight of standing water on the cover can cause damage to the motor or tear the cover upon retraction. The extra time spent will pay off! Empty skimmer baskets. This tip is especially important not just after a rainy day, but also when trees and foliage are shedding. By cleaning your skimmer baskets between service visits, your filter will be less likely to clog and your pool will have better circula- tion. Skim the surface of the pool. Removing leaves and other organic material will help your pools/spa sanitation to work efficiently and keep the skimmers clear. Of special note: After a substantial rain, if you notice that your pool/spa is losing a significant amount of water, call the service department right away. Heavy rain can cause the hydrostatic valve to pop open and small rocks to become lodged which cause a dramatic loss of water. The remedy to this type of scenario is a quick and simple fix by our service dept. Additional Tips for a Hassle Free Summer: Request that your Landscapers direct cuttings and clippings away from your pool/spa. Fertilizers and plant materials de- plete sanitizers, add phosphates, and clog filtration systems. Call for an additional service stop a few days before hosting a party to ensure your chemicals are balanced, and your pool is clear for your event. Consider purchasing 4-5 gallons of shock from our service department before hosting an event (we will deliver it on your service day). Add the shock to your pool immediately after hosting a party as a large bather load will deplete pool sanitizing agents due to oils/lotions and perspiration. This depletion can cause a pool to rapidly turn cloudy. The addition of a water feature to any outdoorenvironment will add an architectural elementand natural beauty to its surroundings.Elaborate waterfalls, whimsical fiber opticlighted laminar jets, and classic free standingfountains offer a true merger of art and nature.

Jona OriBeing the first one to start the work day and thelast one to end it is routine for Jona Ori, co-ownerand construction manager of Rosebrook Pools. From excavation through plastering, Jona spendshis days traveling to each jobsite overseeing 50plus employees along with every detail of the con-struction process.

Like his siblings, Jona’s connection to the familybusiness was cultivated at an early age. His educa-tion began at age 13 working with his father onjobsites over week-ends. While a student at NewHampton Prep and University of Massachusetts, summers were spent learning the construction andservice end of the business. On the job training in-cluded servicing the pools that Rosebrook builtalong with hands on training in swimming poolconstruction techniques. Construction training overthe years progressed from working as a mason’slaborer to trenching lines, pouring concrete, andmastering tile application.

After finishing school, Jona began working for thecompany full time and became a partner in owner-ship in 2000. He continually develops his skills inconstruction not only through training in the field, but also through continuing education programs. He is certified by numerous trade organizations in-cluding: Southern Grout and Mortar (SGM), Na-tional Pool Plasters Council (NPC), Increte, Jandy,Coverstar, and most recently became a member ofGenesis 3 Design Group after successfully com-pleting an intense construction curriculum.

Long hour’s aside, Jona draws great personal sat-isfaction from the camaraderie of working with hisfamily on a daily basis. From a professional stand-point he states that, “the most gratifying aspect ofhis job is watching a simple backyard yard evolveinto an amazing outdoor environment.”
