Helping Communities Develop their Energy Future
CERTs gives citizens a voice in energy planning by connecting them with the technical resourcesnecessary to develop regional strategic energy plans and to identify and implement community-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Solar
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
• Photovoltaic (PV) systems including shingles, roof tiles, building facades, or skylight glazing
• Solar thermal systems• Passive solar design

CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
Solar Projects
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
• 89 installation part of Solar Rebate Program
• 55 NOT part of rebate including solar hot water & off-grid PV
• Many more off-grid, niche applications we don’t know about

Solar Thermal
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
• Heating alternative/ supplement as it concentrates direct heat from sun to produce heat at useful temperatures
• Can offset ~40% of heating needs, ~70% of hot water needs
• Costs vary on system size, new or used, & labor

Ground Source Heat Pumps
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
• a.k.a: geothermal, geoexchange
• Basic concept is to MOVE heat
• Many varieties, most commonly in closed loop systems– Vertical– Horizontal (slinky)

Ground Source Heat Pumps
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
• Each hole or section of slinky provides roughly 1 TON of HEAT or 12,000 BTUs – Note: a typical house
uses 5-14 tons
• Costs: typical system btw. $5000 and $20,000– Vertical = $900-
$1200/ton (not including exchanger)
– Horizontal (slinky) = $550/ton with excavation (not including exchanger)

Biomass
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
Sources of biomass include:• wood residues• agricultural residues• energy crops• animal waste• sewage sludge• soybean oil (biodiesel)• some sources also list Municipal
Solid Waste and Landfill gas
Corn Stoves
CLEAN ENERGY RESOURCE TEAMS
Schools & home owners are looking into corn stoves because:
• Renewable resource• Readily available• Low cost
