BASIC INFO.Cars and buses often emit harmful chemicals and

gases, especially while idling . The older vehicles get, they become more harmful giving off more and more chemicals.

The exhaust consists of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, and soot particles. This mixture does not only harm the environment but it also can cause worsen asthma and other respiratory problems.

Air pollution causes a wide variety of issues with the eco-system. Some examples of pollution would be things such as acid rain and pollutants in the ground from evaporation to rain. Harmful chemicals injure and kill animals and that set off a reaction that can set off the balance in ecosystems and eventually cause extinction of some species that niches were set off.

BEGINNING ACTION PLAN

In order to start the Clean Cars and Buses initiative the first step would be to begin a club with students that want to help the environment. The clubs main job would be to organize events to raise money to fix or replace trucks, that have gotten old and harmful for the environment, for the school.

Events organized would be things that the students enjoy to do so that the student body will not loose interest in the topic. A main event that the club would hold would be a walk relay or run similar to Relay for Life as many people already participate in this event and enjoy it. Another thing that the club would do is fundraising with a possible reward for the best 1st hour that raised the most money, for example a lunch or party, with a small amount of money that the club has already raised in other charity events. The last event helps the environment, students can bring in old technology such as phones and laptops that no one is using anymore. Businesses buy old technology to scrap for parts, because of this both sides of the transaction gain something that will somehow help the environment.

CLUB MAINTENANCE

Through out the years to keep the club maintained it will be lead in a kind of hierarchy type of fashion so that the work can be well organized and the club will succeed as smoothly as possible.

The Clean Car’s and Buses club will have a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and representatives from each grade to help keep the club going. These people will organize events and meetings where everyone in the club will meet and talk about events or ideas.

To keep the club fun, meetings will not only be planning relays and such but also things to help members of the club get to know each other and bond. At these socials club members could do helpful activities like making flyers to spread awareness with messages like “Make sure to get check-ups on your car!”

Lastly, so the club is always doing things to help the environment there will be requirements each month to make sure the club is actively raising money to help get school buses. For example, the club may need to have four things planned a month to keep it going.

OVER-ALL HELP

A major cause to air pollution is the exhaust from the buses and cars adults that students drive to school in every day.

70% of air pollutants come from car’s, and along with school buses, a large amount of high-school drivers have cars, if students were to take a stand and make sure their car was running properly the amount of air pollutants would lower significantly helping the environment.

Not only would it help the environment but it would help for people with respiratory problems to breath easier. For example, in Mexico City, because of harmful chemicals in the air, there are approximately more than 1,000 death and 35,000 hospitalizations each year.

In 1970 leaded gasoline was banned at that then caused a 98 percent decrease in atmospheric concentrations of this toxic metal in the air. If another change like this were to happen the outcome could be great.

While the United States has the Clean Clear Act from 1970 it is very important that people do there job to help the environment with whatever resources they have at there disposal.
