Clean Air Council Sustainability Training Declaration

Sustainability provides a framework for helping to identify the inter-connections between

environmental, social and economic impacts and goals and how meeting our present needs

can be better balanced with ensuring the ability of future generations to

meet their own needs.

CAC Sustainability Training Survey

• CAC members provided feedback to the sustainability training priorities in December 2013 and January 2014 and these results will guide the collective development of municipal sustainability training programs and the compilation and development of capacity building activities and resources.

To build awareness and understanding of sustainability and why it is important

To build awareness of how sustainability relates to municipal planning and service delivery

To build awareness of how and why a municipality should take a leadership role on progress towards sustainability

To help build the ability of participants to identify how they can integrate sustainability into their responsibilities and decision making

To help increase the ability of participants to train others to increase awareness of how and why we should be furthering sustainability

To build awareness and understanding of why and how to incorporate sustainability into the financial review process.

•Find a way to make it on-going with regular updates and reminders when needed•Developing indicators/measuring success•Integrate sustainability into the core culture of the organization.•The "how" component is a vital component of beneficial Sustainability Training. Sustainability needs to be taken from a discussion, to action.•Connecting the dots between environmental sustainability, human health and financial sustainability•Sustainability measurement tools (GRI)... how departments can incorporate sustainability measurement tools into their work. Other target audiences you think are important and other comments

• Training for community members is significantly different than internal staff. I am not confident that the same training program could be used for both these target audiences.

• Corporate Communications Staff

• It is important for all staff to have this training in order for the City to work together and achieve our sustainability goals. It has to be ingrained into everyone and be a part of all work plans.

• Politicians, senior management and (depending on corporate structure) finance, have to be on side and buy-in to the training and its value for it to be effective throughout the organization.
