Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi): Open to all majors. Requires a 2.5 GPA. Pledge in early fall and winter semesters. Will work with peers on fundraising, budgeting, marketing, etc.

American Marketing Association (AMA): Open to all majors. Develop networking skills and learn from successful business professionals. Nominal annual fee.

Women’s Economic Society: Aims to encourage the participation and advance the roles of women in the field of economics. (Often meets with the Economics Students Association (ESA).

Beta Alpha Psi (BAPsi): Internationally recognized co-ed professional fraternity representing the fields of accounting, finance, and information systems. Open to ACC, FIN, or MIS majors with a 3.0 GPA.

Economics Students Association (ESA): Promote interaction among students interested in economics-related issues such as business, finance, and public policy. Open to all students interested in Economics.

Financial Management Association (FMA): Designed to assist students in understanding careers in the finance world. Meet with professionals from the business community and to visit facilities such as Chicago Futures Exchange. Nominal fee to join.

Management Information Systems (MIS) Club: Open to all students. Presents programs and field trips pertaining to MIS profession and studies.

Oakland Accounting Students Information Society (OASIS): Learn about career paths, learn from professionals, develop employability skills, meet recruiters, and participate in social events.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM): Provides information about career paths in HRM. Professional and personal growth is encouraged through presentations. Open to all majors.

Helps you design and implement fun and innovative projects to help teach business principles to teenagers from economically disadvantaged schools.

Work one on one with executives and entrepreneurs.

Each spring, SIFE competes with over 1700 other SIFE teams from 42 different countries in a Regional, National, and International competition.

◦ Pre-Core: The classes required to earn major standing. DOES NOT INCLUDE GENERAL EDUCATION – only the business courses on the checklist with a triangle next to them.

◦ Major Standing: Successful completion of 100 & 200 level business courses; achieving your major within the business school.

◦ Pre-Req: Pre-requisite - a course that must be completed before taking a subsequent course.

◦ Co-Req: Co-Requisite – a course that can be taken at the same time as another course.

◦ LDC: Undergraduate Leadership and Development Center – office in 238 EH that houses many different student resources.

◦ MAP: Master Advising Plan – An agreement between students not making satisfactory progress in the business curriculum and an adviser to help the student get back on track.

◦ CAPP: The degree evaluation program used by students in SAIL to view their progress in their studies.

◦ POE: Petition of Exception - a form used when asking for an exception to a rule (i.e. taking a course without a pre-requisite). It oftentimes requires departmental signatures and a rationale for your request.

Executive in Residence: Rande Somma, former Executive with Johnson Controls, is available for students to correspond with on a variety of topics.

Free Tutoring in Elliott Hall: Currently offering tutoring for ACC, ECN, and QMM courses in 238 EH.

Links to Academic Success Workshops: Offered each semester on topics such as time management, note taking, test preparation, etc.

Student Information Sessions: Link on SBA website that houses all upcoming events for students to read about and register.

Over 20 different scholarships in the SBA. Each year, over $25,000 in scholarship money is awarded. Various scholarships for:

Sophomore Scholars: ◦ Offered to SBA sophomore students who excelled in their

freshmen courses, including mathematics.◦ Partial cohort program to create a learning community.◦ You must apply to be admitted to this program – information on

website.

Junior and Senior Scholars: ◦ Serve as an SBA Ambassador for academic school year. ◦ Only 20 Juniors and Seniors are admitted to this program. ◦ You will receive monthly leadership seminars, opportunities to

serve as student representatives at internal and external SBA events.

◦ You also receive a $500 scholarship in recognition of the service you provide.

◦ You must apply to be considered; provide a resume and letter of recommendation.

Research Scholars:◦ Designed for SBA students in Major Standing who are interested

in creating a new level of expertise by adding a research component to their educational experience.

◦ You are paid to work directly with the faculty member/mentor on his or her research during the fall and winter semesters.

◦ You will also complete a two-semester course. ◦ Application materials and information on website.

SBA Scholar in a Specified Theme: ◦ Learning community that explores a cross-functional theme

such as global management, entrepreneurship, etc.◦ Starting FALL 2008 – a two-year cohort group will be given

opportunity to build a knowledge base on a specific theme.◦ Includes a three-credit, two-semester course during junior and

senior years.◦ Must have major standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 2 years

remaining in SBA.
