TherevivaloftheClassicalGreekdanceistheoutcomeoftheworkofRubyGinnerwho,takingasherinspirationthecultureandartsof ancientGreece,developedandadapted these ideals to theneedsand ideasof themodernworld. METHODOFASSESSMENTTheseexaminationsareassessedexternallybyvisitingexaminersrecruitedandtrainedbytheISTD.TheexaminationsaredividedintoSectionsandeachSectioniscomposedofseveralcomponentswhichareseparatelyassessedandaggregatedtogivetheSectiontotal.Thetitlesofthesecomponentsandthemarksattainablearedetailedfurtherbelow.Candidatesmust gain at least 25%of themarks attainable in each Section in order to pass the examination overall. In caseswhere25%ofthemarksattainabledoesnotcometoaroundfigure,eg121/2,thepassmarkfortheSectionisloweredtothenearestroundfigure,inthisexample,12.TheSectiontotalsareaggregatedandtheoverallmarkisgivenoutof100.IfallSectionsarepassed,thentheoverallresultisindicatedasfollows:

CLASSICALGREEKDANCEGRADEDEXAMINATIONS:GRADES1–6RATIONALE
ClassicalGreekDancemakesadistinctivecontributiontotheeducationofallstudents, inthat itusesmovement,which is thefundamentalmodeofhumanexpression. Itoffersa rangeof learningopportunitiesandenablesparticipants toenjoyphysicalexpressionaswellasdevelopintellectualsensibilities.AstheyworktogetherinClassicalGreekDance,candidateslearnaboutco-operationanddevelopanunderstandingoftheshapingofmovementintoartisticformsofexpression.
Candidates develop the skill and understanding of Classical Greek Dance, at the same time as building sound technique, bydevelopingthephysicalabilitytocommunicatethroughmovementinanexpressiveandartisticway.
Aclearlydefinedstructureallowslearningtotakeplaceinthecontextofsafedancepractice.TheGradedExaminationsbuildupprogressively, ensuring that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for more complex movements as the candidateprogresses.
EachClassicalGreekGradedExaminationsallowscandidatestoprogresstothenexthighergrade intheClassicalGreekgenre.Also,arangeoftransferstootherdancegenresbecomespossibleasthecandidatedevelopsphysicallyandlearnscommonskillssuchasrunning,useofarms,posture,timingandrhythmicawareness.Inthisway,withadditionalteachinginput,thecandidateisabletodevelopabroadbaseofdancingskills.
Following on from the Graded Examinations, candidates may wish to progress to the Vocational Graded Examinations aspreparationforemploymentasaprofessionaldanceroraspreparationfordanceteachingqualifications.
TheGradedExaminationsinClassicalGreekDancealsoallowforthoseparticipatingsolelyforrecreationalpurposestoproducequalityworkinasafedancecontext.AIMS
TheaimofGradedExaminationsistoprovideanassessmentschemefordance,whichgivesthebasisforthemeasurementoftheindividualcandidate'sprogressanddevelopment,whetherthecandidateispursuingdanceasaleisureactivityoraspreparationforaprofessionalcareerasadanceteacherorperformer.Therearesixpracticalexaminationgrades,numberedfrom1to6,inordertoindicatetheincreasingorderofdifficulty(6representsthehighestlevelofattainment).OBJECTIVES

Thereisarecommendedminimumageof6yearsforGrade1.Thisistoensurethatthecandidatesarephysicallydevelopedsufficientlytosafelymeetthedemandsofthesyllabus.

Thereisnomaximumagelimit. PRIORLEARNING
The Graded Examinations in Classical Greek Dance are intended to be taken consecutively andmost candidates will wish toprogress through them in sequence in order to develop and demonstrate the requisite skills. However, in cases whereexaminationsareundertakenwithoutsuccessinthepreviousgrade,thecandidateneedstobeatanappropriatelevelofphysicalandartisticdevelopment.BeforeacandidateenrolsinaclassleadingtoaGradedExamination,teachersareunderaparticularduty,therefore,toassesstheachievementofthecandidate,particularlywithregardtosafedancepractice.GENDERDISTINCTIONS
TheGradedExaminationsinClassicalGreekDancearesuitableforbothgendersandaredesignedtodevelopthestrengthsandabilitiesof bothmale and female candidates. There are some separateexercises,which are intended to reflect theparticularskillsoftheindividual.TIMEALLOWANCES/NUMBEROFCANDIDATES

REASONABLEADJUSTMENTSTheISTDpolicyandprocedureforallreasonableadjustmentsforallqualificationsiscontainedwithintheEqualOpportunitiespolicyontheISTDwebsite.TheVocationalGradedExaminationsandProfessionalQualificationsaredesignedforthosewhoareintendingtopursueacareerindance,eitherasaperformerorasateacher.Itis,therefore,veryunlikelythatapotentialperformerwillrequirereasonableadjustments.However,apotentialteachermustbeabletodemonstrateallmovementsprecisely,inordertoteachthemeffectively.Asthe‘Intermediate’examinationisalsonowincludedasaunitwithintheDiplomainDanceInstruction,itislikelysomecandidateswillapplyforadjustments.Thisisbecausetheyare:
