Classic Men’s Haircut Competition

SUNDAY | MARCH 31, 2019

SCHEDULE:

12:00 pm Check in at registration desk

2:00 pm Competitors report to stage

2:30 pm Competition introduction

2:45 pm Cutting begins

3:15 pm Competition ends and judging begins

5:15 pm Winners are announced

COMPETITION:

1. Competitors will receive the Johnny B. Essentials Kit (valued at $62.50), to complete their haircut. The kit includes one of each: Fade Comb, Texturizing Comb, Hair Cutting Comb, Barber Comb, Barber Brush, Vent Brush, Hair Pik Set, After Shave Spray, Feels Brush, Talc and Cutting Cape. If any other haircutting accessories are used, the competitor will be disqualified.

2. Use of Straight edge razors and/or razor blades is strictly prohibited.

3. Competitors will have thirty (30) minutes to complete the haircut and styling portion; competitors are required to remove at least ½ inch of hair.

4. “Tools and Products Down” will be announced at the end of the thirty (30) minutes and competitors must stop cutting/styling, even if their work is not complete. Any competitor seen working on their models after the close of the competition will be disqualified.

5. Cutting: Any method of cutting is allowed using shears or clippers. Electrical outlets are provided, but wireless clippers are recommended. You will not have access to plug in a blow dryer. NO BLOW DRYERS WILL BE ALLOWED ON STAGE. Each contestant should bring: Clipper, Trimmer, Shears, and Hair clips, JB will provide, combs, product, cape.

Wet or Dry cuts are allowed. All models’ hair must be cut during the competition. No pre-cuts, no pre-lines are allowed. Each model’s hair will be inspected prior to the start of the competition. All cut hair must be left on the floor and participants must stay at their station for the duration of the competition.

6. Judges will base their scores on the competitor’s technique, originality, styling – must use JOHNNY B. Products only tools and cleanliness. Judges will use the 50-point scoring system.

7. It is the responsibility of each competitor to secure and furnish his/her own model and bring their own machines to the competition.

8. All models and competitors must sign a release form prior to the competition.

BARBER BATTLE COMPETITIONClassic Men’s Haircut Competition

Demonstrate a men’s classic cut (ie. Hard Part, Comb Over, Pompadour)using clippers and shears. Please note: you must finalize the hair cut by styling with product.

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES:

1. Barber Competition is open to all LICENSED PROFESSIONALS, both barbers and cosmetologists. Proof of licensing will be required upon completing registration.

2. All competitors must be at least sixteen (16) year of age and sign a model release form. Models must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. The release form allows the show management to use your photo for industry and non-industry publications and promotion of this and future events.

3. During registration you will be required to provide a signature agreeing that you have read and understand these rules and the general rules and regulations.

4. Each entrant must provide a live model. Model can be male or female and hair cannot be longer than eight (8) inches. Mannequins will not be allowed for competition.

5. There will be a limit of ten (10) competitors for the Classic Men’s Haircut competition.

6. Any competition with less than five (5) entries may be canceled at the discretion of the competition committee – Fashion Focus and Johnny B. Hair Care.

7. All competitors must check in at the registration area at least one hour prior to the competition. If a contestant is late, they will for forfeit their place and paid entry fee.

8. It is the responsibility of each competitor to secure and furnish his/her own model and bring their own machines to the competition.

9. Competitors and models may not leave the competition area after the competition has begun. Anyone found leaving the area without permission would be disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS.

10. Competitors are not allowed or permitted to touch their models after they have been seated in the competition area until the competition chairman directs them.

11. All decisions of the judges will be final. The judge’s tally sheet will be available to the competitors after the winners have been announced.

FEES:

$100 – Entry to the show will be waived for registered competitors and their models.

AWARDS:

1st place $350 cash card

2nd place $100 cash card

3rd place $50 cash card

DRESS CODE:

The participants will be required to dress to impress while competing.

JUDGING:

1. Johnny B. educators will serve as judges during the competition. There will be a minimum of 3 judges per category. All judges will have a minimum of 12 years experience as professional barbers.

2. All models will be pre-inspected during the check in process. Models are required to meet the minimum standards listed in rules and regulations. If the model does not meet those specifications – i.e. pre-cut, too short of hair or excess styled etc. The judges have the authority to deduct points from the competitor or depending on gravity disqualify from competition.

3. All judges will confer and submit scorecards thereafter completion of competition. Results will be shared with contestants at 5:15 pm sharp and winners MUST be in attendance to receive cash prizes. Any winner who is not present will automatically forfeit any cash prizes and/or Johnny B. materials.

4. All competitors will be judged in the following categories:

a. Technique

b. Originality

c. Styling – MUST use JOHNNY B products only

d. Tools

e. Cleanliness

All categories will be scored out of 10 available points. Each competitor will have the ability to earn 50 total points. During the competition all competitors will be provided with backbar JOHNNY B. products to use for styling. Only Johnny B. products can be used during the competition. Judges will deduct points if other products are used.

5. All decisions made by the judges are FINAL and not open for discussion. All competitors will be allowed to view their score sheets after results are announced.

6. No color enhancement allowed before and during competition. Automatic disqualification.
