ClassesThere are approximately 6 to 6.5 hours of classes per week (1 weekday evening and 1 weekend afternoon or evening). Classes will be held at SCOPE learning centre in Kowloon Tong, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Admiralty and/or other designated venues.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)Some courses of the programme have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Government Continuing Education Fund (CEF). Eligible applicants will be reimbursed 80% of the course fees, subject to a maximum sum of HK$10,000, on successful completion of the courses. Education LoanSuccessful applicants are eligible to apply for the Non-means Tested Loan Scheme (NLS) administered by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) of the HKSAR government. Certified Tax Adviser (CTA)In 2010, The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK) launched the CTA Qualifying Examination to accredit tax professionals with a view to set a standard for new entrants to the tax profession and to enhance the confidence of employers in persons holding such a qualification. The CTA Qualifying Examination consists of five papers:
Paper 1 - Accounting and Finance Paper 2 - Hong Kong Tax Paper 3 - International TaxPaper 4 - PRC Tax Paper 5 - Advanced Taxation Practice
This programme is endorsed by the TIHK as a qualifying programme. Having successfully completed the programme, participants will be granted exemption from following CTA Qualifying Examination papers:Paper 1 - Accounting and Finance Paper 2 - Hong Kong TaxPaper 3 - International Tax

CPD Scheme of The Law Society of Hong KongThe Law Society of Hong Kong has approved the CED in Tax Advisory for the purpose of compliance with the CPD requirements of the Society’s CPD scheme. Up to 15 points of the annual CPD requirements may be counted in each year for the course undertaken and duly attended by trainee solicitors or solicitors.
Membership of The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK)Those who have successfully completed this CED in Tax Advisory and possess a recognized university degree, or equivalent qualification (eg. qualified membership of Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians), will be qualified to apply for membership of the TIHK, subject to fulfillment of the Institute's requirement on taxation experience.
Aims and ObjectivesThe Continuing Education Diploma (CED) in Tax Advisory aims to provide an opportunity for university graduates to develop their career in the field of professional tax advisory and to prepare them for the Certified Tax Adviser (CTA) Qualifying Examination offered by The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK).
Upon completion of this programme, graduates will have the analytical competence about tax advisory problems and the professional competence to appreciate established taxation practices.
Degree holders without adequate academic background or relevant practical experience in business will be required to take an intensive bridging course before commencement of the programme at an additional fee.
CEF reimbursable modules
Exemption1. Exemption from “Accounting and Finance for Tax Advisers” may be granted to: i) Candidates who hold an accounting or a business related degree awarded by a
recognized tertiary institution, with completion of accounting and finance modules of comparable standards in their study; or
ii) Candidates who have completed a Conversion Program accredited by Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants under their Qualification Programme; or a similar programme organized by other professional accountancy body of comparable standing.
2. Exemption from “Business Law for Tax Advisers” may be granted to: i) Candidates who hold an accounting or a business related degree awarded by
recognized tertiary institution, with completion of business law module of comparable standards in their study; or
ii) Candidates who hold a law degree awarded by a recognized tertiary institution.
Assessment and AwardThe assessment consists of a combination of coursework, and examination. To be
eligible for the award of Continuing Education Diploma in Tax Advisory, participants should obtain a pass in all assessment components and achieved a minimum of 70% attendance in each module of the programme.
Medium of InstructionEnglish supplemented with Cantonese. Course materials and assessments are in English except for the PRC Tax Advisory module which is taught and assessed in Chinese.
Admission Requirements1. Holder of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution; and2. Academic background in business studies or two years’ relevant practical
experience in the business field.
