CLASS// QUIM BIGAS “ the floor is yours/ a whole class in a low level” We’re used to be on the floor and we accept it’s limitations and it’s functionalities. We are aware that it’s a good support for our feet and gravity. As movers, it’s important to open up and discover the possibilities of it in order to expand our relation with the floor much more in connection to our body and to experiment the potentialities of the space as a source of movement. For these sessions, we will be mainly working in a low level and we will go through different approaches to time and movement and the uses we can make out/in/through the floor. The classes would be mixing research and tasks, manipulations and repetition. All of the exercises will be dealing with how we are using the floor ( pushing, pulling, going away from, going with, passing through, pressing, using it as a partner...). At the same time, we will be facing varieties of speed and motion (how does velocity affect our relation with the surface and how do we solve the situations we will find ourselves in?) We would usually start with a good warm up that contains stretching while moving, empowering the sense of the circular movement and kinetics, walking and enlightening the relation with the ground. We will keep going with some open exercises based on localizing where does the movement start and where does it go and we will go further with some tasks and constant proposals in relation to the floor. Towards the end, we will create a phrase that will be our base in order to work with different qualities and approaches. ____________________________ Quim Bigas is an artist/choreographer and maker active in several European cities and living between Copenhagen and Barcelona.
