How do I see a counselor? First, g0 to our updated website. Many of
your questions can be answered there. Email your student’s counselor to request an
appointment. Parents with appointments have priority!
Sign up for Remind.Counselors will be out of the office frequently
for senior conferences during August and September, so appointments are highly encouraged during this time.

EOCT FACTS for Class of 2015EOCT is 20% of the grade.
If a student fails the EOCT, then the EOCT must be re-taken in the following semester.
If a student fails the course, then the course and the EOCT must be re-taken.

How to prepare for college admissions Take a career interest test. This will help you decide on a
career path or college major. (GA College411)
Rigor vs. GPA – Only take higher level classes if you are going to work for A’s and B’s. (For example, it is better to have a 3.0 in regular class than a 2.0 in an AP/Honors class.)
Writing is important! Colleges are evaluating SAT /ACT writing scores.
Get involved in extra-curricular activities. Take a leadership role.
Volunteer work , summer programs and employment count!
Colleges are looking for well rounded students!
How to request a transcriptOfficial transcripts- Complete a request
form. Cost is $3.00 per transcript.
Unofficial transcripts-Sign up for an unofficial.
2-3 day turnaround time for transcripts.
Request forms are in the counselors’ office.
How to read a transcript Transcript=course historyAny core class with a grade below 70
needs to be re-taken.Core classes= Language Arts, Science,
Social Studies, Math. World Language is a core, if a student is
planning to attend a 4 year college.Personal Fitness and Health is required.7 electives= CTAE, Fine Arts, PE classes
What should I be doing now?Senior Conferences are held in August and September.
You will meet with your counselor and review your credits. A copy of your graduation plan will go home to your parents for signature.
APPLY to 4 colleges or programs ( 1 REACH/2 GOOD FIT/ 1 SAFETY)
Complete a Brag Sheet and make copies. Request letters of recommendation early. (Give teachers a
two week notice. ) Give your teachers a copy of your brag sheet.
Re-take the SAT or ACT and Sat Subject tests if needed. Be aware of early action and early decision deadlines.The Common Application may be used to apply to
multiple schools.

NCAA and Student Athletes High school student athletes should register with the
NCAA website @www.eligibilitycenter.org.
Students must take the SAT or ACT and use 9999 code to have scores reported directly to NCAA.
NCAA will not accept credits from online courses.
See Ms. Williams, LHS Lead Counselor for waiver verification.
What do I need to apply to college? Complete an online application. Send an official transcript.Send your SAT or ACT scores directly from
the testing agency.Essay or personal statement Letters of Recommendation Mid-term transcript. (Some colleges require
this.) Application fee or fee waiver.
Helpful hits to reduce stress Break large tasks down into small steps. Set
a finish date for each task.
Set aside a time once a week to work on applications and scholarships.
Keep a calendar with deadlines.
Keep a notebook with copies of applications, etc.
