FIRST-PERSON POINT-OF-VIEW

• The use of I, me, we• A character directly involved in the story.

EXAMPLE: Life of Pi is from a first-person point-of-view because…PI TELLS HIS OWN STORY. THE WRITER IS ALSO NARRATING PI’S STORY (WRITER IS WITH ADULT PI).

THIRD PERSON LIMITED

Definition: A narrator whose knowledge is limited to one character, either major or minor.

EXAMPLE: Fahrenheit 451 is from a third-person limited point-of-view because…ONLY MONTAG’S PERSPECTIVE IS NARRATED.

THIRD-PERSON OMNISCIENT

• The omniscient narrator knows everything, may reveal the motivations, thoughts and feelings of the characters, and gives the reader information.

• Example: The Harry Potter series is in third-person omniscient because…THE NARRATOR SHOWS OTHER CHARACTER’S EXPERIENCES.

THIRD-PERSON OBJECTIVE

• The objective point of view presents the action and the characters' speech, without comment or emotion. • The reader has to interpret the text

and uncover their meaning.• EXAMPLE: Most news articles are in

third-person objective because….THERE ARE ONLY FACTS, NO INTERPRETATION.
