WI State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl is scheduled for April 4, 2020 The 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest will be held on Saturday April 4, 2020 at UW Madison Animal Sciences Building, Madison. The Dairy Bowl is a "quiz bowl" competition where all questions deal with dairy topics. Competition in the 4-H Dairy Bowl encourages a 4-H member to develop a more complete knowledge of dairy animals and related subjects and provides an educational dairy program for all dairy project members, including those who may not own a dairy project animal, provides a way to develop alertness, self-confidence, teamwork skills, and mastery in the area of dairy science. Teams of four members compete with each other in giving oral answers to questions posed by a moderator. Teams receive points for correct answers and may lose points for incorrect answers. The team with the highest final score is the winner. Teams are divided into three age divisions and teams can consist of 3 or 4 members. The junior division are youth who are under 14 years of age as of January1, 2020. The senior division are youth who are all 14 years of age or older as of January 1, 2020. A mixed team must contain at least one youth from each age division. The contest is organized on a double elimination basis with winning teams advancing into further rounds until a champion team emerges. The cost is $20 per team due at the time of registration. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and competitions start at 9:30 a.m. Deadline for registration is March 14, 2020, 5:00 p.m. Anyone interested in participating should contact Amy Gerhardt at [email protected] by MARCH 1.

April 1 is right around the corner and you know what that means!!

Final project selection ends at midnight.

Make sure you are signed up for the project that corresponds with the fair book so you can take what you have been working on to the fair (see next page for classes).

Example: Susie Snowflake has the following projects:

step out of your “box” and try something new this year.

If you have questions please don’t hesitate to contact Lori at 715-743-5122

Coaches Meeting January 13, 2020 / 6:30 p.m.

Loyal City Hall

Clubs Represented: Beaver Center/Jolly Workers, Chili, Happy Valley, Loyal Lads & Lassies, Lucky Clovers, Maplewood Badgers, Neillsville Lights, Rock Creek Rangers, Romadka, and Town & Country Clovers Clubs Absent: Greenwood Satellites, Reseburg Ramblers, Town & Country Partners, and Woodgrove Workers Cindy Kolzow announced that the Volleyball Tournament will be held on March 28-29 at Greenwood High School. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Rules were reviewed. No changes made from previous year. Bob Brost initiated discussion regarding softball. The Greenwood Lions may not host this tournament if we cannot increase the number of teams participating. Discussion was held regarding the possibility of having a family softball event, rather than a tournament. This might include a potluck meal, informal softball teams formed by attendees, both parents and youth. Arrangements could be made for younger members who might not wish to play softball – they could play kickball on the side. No final decision made at this time.

Clark County All Leaders Meeting Minutes

January 13, 2020 / 7:00 p.m. Loyal City Hall, Loyal

Board Members Present: Amy Gerhardt, Jennie Whitmire, Teri Raatz, Nicolas Stiemann, Ella Raatz, Jarrett Rueth, Max Jacques, Jacob Kopp, Breanna Rowe, Joan Buchholz, and Susan Stiemann Board Members Absent: John Brost, Courtney Schoessow Clubs Represented: Beaver Center/Jolly Workers, Chili, Greenwood Satellites, Happy Valley, Loyal Lads & Lassies, Lucky Clovers, Maplewood Badgers, Neillsville Lights, Reseburg Ramblers, Rock Creek Rangers, Romadka, Town & County Clovers, Town and Country Partners, and Woodgrove Workers Clubs Absent: none Jennie Whitmire called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The American and 4-H pledges were recited. Roll call taken as board members and club representatives introduced themselves. Secretary’s Report: The minutes for the November 11, 2019 meeting were reviewed. Tanya Wilke moved to approve. Motion seconded by Cindy Kolzow and carried. Old Business:

The following record book concerns were shared: due date for record books makes it difficult for state horse show members to include their state horse show experience in the book, there is redundancy in a number of the project page questions, the financial piece is not beneficial for some project areas (i.e. Foods & Nutrition), the Cloverbud and Exploring books have become very long.

Discovery Day was well attended. Members who participated in the woodworking session need to be reminded to sand their projects prior to painting if they plan to exhibit them at the fair. Teri Raatz reminded leaders that the YQCA program at Discovery Day was the only one planned for our county this year. If members did not attend, they need to search out other avenues of meeting the YQCA requirement.

Club leaders were asked to encourage members to consider completing applications for camp counseling, 4-H and Livestock Scholarships, and the Key Award.

Bruce Mound Outing is scheduled for February 8, 2020, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass for potluck. Friends are welcome. Clubs should plan to help put tubes away and clean up from the potluck meal at the end of the evening.

The Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for March 28-29 at the Greenwood High School. Team rosters need to be turned in the Extension Office by March 13. Referees are needed.

Financial Report:

Joan Buchholz shared the treasurer’s report for periods covering 11/11/19 to 12/8/19 and 12/9/19 to 1/12/20. The ending balance as of 1/12/2020 was $32,457.03 with $12,902.32 of that total self-supporting project balances. Nikki Rueth moved to approve. Seconded by Amy Gerhardt. Motion carried.

Discussion was held regarding plat book distribution to local businesses for sale. Consensus is that businesses be asked to pay up front for plat books. Suggestion was also made that prices for ads in the plat books be reviewed, not for plat book currently in process, but prior to future plat book plans.

Ads for upcoming Drama/Music Festival were discussed. It was recommended that notices be placed in the free “Community Events” columns in local papers, as well as fliers being available from the Extension Office for clubs to place in their communities.

New Business:

4-H Coordinator interviews/presentations are January 20. Jennie Whitmire, Susan & Nicolas Stiemann will be attending.

Cindy Kolzow reported on fundraising progress for new livestock building. Groundbreaking is still planned for immediately after the 2020 fair.

Cindy Kolzow reported on the State Fairboard Convention. She encouraged anyone interested in serving on the fair board to attend the fair board meeting on Monday, January 20. Three seats are up for election.

Plat book ad order forms and a report on businesses to be contacted for ad sales were handed out to club representatives. Ad sales need to be completed by April 1, 2020, with a projected goal of having newly printed plat books available by 2020 fair.

Shannon Toufar moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Amy Gerhardt and carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next board meeting will be held on Monday, February10, 2020, 7:00 p.m. at ADS, Greenwood. Respectfully submitted, Susan Stiemann, Secretary
