Principal’s News

Welcome to Week 6 and the week ahead I fear will be repeated many times across the

Spring/Summer 2019/2020 as sever and above fire dangers and bushfires spreading smoke and

destruction in the current dry conditions. It will be a challenging time again this week with severe

fire dangers and smoke haze affecting air quality. This morning we managed some outside play

and throughout this week we will monitor air quality and smoke haze conditions closely and try

and have some outside play time if it is safe to do so. Similarly with Intensive Swimming and

Swimming for Sport, we will monitor the conditions each day and the children will walk to the pool

for lessons if it is safe to do so. If you have concerns for your child’s health and wellbeing please

contact the school for support and if you would like to leave instructions for managing health

conditions at school, this can be done through the Notification to First Aide Officer forms – these

forms are available at the office and on the Skoolbag App.

There are many stories of sadness and heroics and many of our family, friends and loved ones

still in the thick of the fire areas or as part of the RFS and SES fighting the fires and supporting

communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.

Meanwhile in class we are maintaining learning as normal to ensure students are kept in routine

and are feeling safe and secure. In the office it is business as usual. Last week we had our audit

– our school audit consists of two facets, our school finance and budget and health and safety. I

am pleased to inform you that we were found satisfactory on every level and passed the audit

with flying colours. I would like to thank all staff for their part in ensuring all paperwork and

mandatory requirements were met. A special thank you to Mr Lofts, Mrs Price and Mrs Allen who

gave up their own time to ensure all was perfect for the audit. With the number of disruptions in

the office each day, working out of hours was required to avoid interruption and to stay focused

to ensure we didn’t miss anything. A great job Clarence Town Public School staff.

These extreme events do increase the workload for myself and the office staff and we thank you

for your patience during this time. I will continue to have regular contact with local RFS and DoE

personnel to monitor the situation. At this point in time Clarence Town Public School is still under

a watch and act alert and Steve Lowe, our local RFS Captain, has been given an update on the

school and how many people we have onsite each day. All other information remains the same

as last week’s notes and Skoolbag notices.

This week at Clarence Town Public School we have: Smoke Haze Warnings all week. Intensive Swimming every day this week Monday – 2020 Kinder visit – last one! Monday – Nominations for Student Leaders for 2020 Tuesday – Book Fair Tuesday - P&C meeting 7pm Wednesday – Grandparents Day Wednesday – Book Fair Wednesday – Assembly 2:15 Thursday – Drum Corp for Stage 3 Friday – Swimming for Sport Friday - Dungog Youth Services at CTPS 9-12

Our new Tawny PBL Mascot is going well. PBL stands for Positive

Behaviours For Learning and is the basis of our Student Wellbeing Program

in the school.

We are constantly reminding students of our PBL Values and school motto along with our Tawny 5 Rules and I would also encourage parents to use

these words when celebrating positive behaviour and discussing negative choices with your child. The Tawny 5 Rules:

I can listen

I can put up my hand and wait

I can work quietly

I can follow instructions

I can control what I do and Say The School motto:

Kindness Honesty Effort The Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Values:

Learning Safety Respect Through working together we create the best opportunities and learning experiences for all our students. Have a great week. Louise Blakemore Principal

School Security - IMPORTANT Over the weekend we had some teenagers and late one night last week in the school grounds – this occurred on Sunday and 4 teenagers were spotted by our neighbours who contacted the Police. On being informed, I also contacted School Security who sent a patrol. The teenagers, all appeared to be male, were riding scooters in the grounds and were hanging around the buildings. On Monday several cigarette butts were found under the trees in the corner of the Library and Computer Lab and under the tree near the netball court. If you see anyone in the school grounds or any suspicious behaviour out of hours or over the weekends please contact school security on 1800 00 88 21. Thank you for looking out for our school.

Our next assembly will be held on Wednesday 20 November at 2.15pm. All parents and friends

are invited to attend.
