The Peak of Gathering Sceneries was conceptu-alized as a three-dimensional flow in which three bodies were woven together to create the tower. The metaphor of the three roads and the three rivers are shaped into a mountain that refers to the Jianfeng Mountain across the river. Among two of the elements are bridges that connect a smaller island designated as part of the park and the other one linking the other side, allowing a continuous promenade along the river. The building’s bottom three levels house tourist and retail units, while the tower hosts a series of viewing platforms which look unto the river, mountains, and roads. The vertical landscape created on the platforms refers to a re-inter-pretation of the Chinese Mountain and Water Painting, creating a unique experience of Chi-nese traditional pagoda behind a parametrically patterned façade of an abstract Mountain and Water theme perforated metal screen.

The Ark of Art - Named for its ship-like structure, this design splits its envelope between counter-pointing materials: a wooden façade facing the sea, and a copper façade facing the city. Both of these materials are commonly used in Finn-ish construction, and both act as a brise-soleil. The exposed Finnish Larch ribs of the seaside envelope are spaced for maximum access to in-direct sunlight. The uncommon appearance of the exterior makes the design a landmark of the city, and a major site for pedestrian traffic. To accommodate this, the sidewalks and bike paths are widened, as well as a footbridge over the ad-jacent roadway, connecting the museum to the nearby park. The Ark is set on a podium that holds conference rooms and other administrative functions for the building. Upon entering, visitors find that the gallery levels are terraced back from the sea, al-lowing for uninterrupted views of the ocean and the Helsinki skyline. A restaurant on the rooftop museum gives a similar, if not more spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding city.

With the completion of the Taikooli pedestrian shopping street designed by Kengo Kuma, San-litun’s neighborhood quickly upgraded, becom-ing the most popular commercial district in Bei-jing, and foreigners favorite place to live.Built in 1995, Aide Apartment is one of the first service apartments in the core area of Sanlitun. Following the pace of the city changes, the own-er decided to have the entire façade and the in-terior spaces redesigned.WVA decided to enlarge the existing ventilation patio in between the structure, allowing natural light into the interior spaces. Enclosed by frost-ed glass bricks, the new patios light the original dark corridors and bathrooms while preserving privacy. The fixed furniture enclosing the struc-ture and the single curved ceiling give a contem-porary touch to the interiors. The stone façade gives the building its intended sober aspect while becoming a symbol of high-end service apartments in Sanlitun.

Located south of Beijing Ditan Park’s west gate, the old Sanli building was demolished years ago.The design is thought as a dialogue between the buildings massing and facade with the tradition-al entrance space of Ditan Park, which is a tradi-tional architecture space in the city.
The facade design refers therefore to the analy-sis of Ditan Park’s composition where its asym-metrical layout is intended to avoid confusion with royal places using symmetrical plan organi-zation. “Smooth” and “balanced” are the main space features of Ditan Park. Using the park structure as a guideline for the massing of the building, a sun study has given the line for the fa-cade. A variation of five frit glass panels is placed depending on the sunshine.

Housing Building - rue des ChartreuxProject Architect
Firm Atelier Quatr’a - BELocation Brussels, Belgium Date 2012 Type SD + DD + Construction DrawingsSize 3.000 sqm Located in the heart of Brussels, the site is one of the few ones remaining empty. Due to its privileged location, the government followed the project closely, making the role of the architect a real chess game between the client, the government and the local association of neighbors.Toward the courtyard, the project offers a series of ter-races, making the building progressively aligned with the neighboring buildings. The twenty-four apartments house one to three bedrooms and offer large living rooms and comfortable terraces. The two shops located on the ground floor operate independently.

FLAGSHIP STORE。
Lee

48hours Workshop Student Project
School Universitat International de CatalunyaLocation Barcelona, Spain Studio Alessio Erioli + Aref MaksoudDate 2011 Efficiency and performance in the natural world are the result of processes of emerging systems i.e. the whole being more than the sum of its parts. Those systems take place at every scale in our world: from the brain to the human body and even to cities. This key concept used with a computer enables to create generative forms evolving along the design process.

Floral ObsessionStudent Project
School Universitat International de CatalunyaLocation Barcelona, Spain Studio Matias del Campo + Sandra ManningerDate 2011 This workshop explored the floral condition as a matter of design in architecture: going from the topological conditions of the flower, to the surface articulations and finally to the color-ation and various chromatic effects of the petals mainly. The main point was to explore modern approaches of architecture through nature, in-vestigating the potentials of efficient surfaces and the economy of form.

Metaphysics and Computation Genetic Algorithms : The Library of ItselfStudent Project
School Universitat International de CatalunyaLocation Barcelona, Spain Studio Karl S. ChuDate 2011
A library of itself contains and expresses its own information. In this sense, the distinction between contents and container vanishes. The organization came from the logic of the system. The objective is to develop a sense for the sys-tem to be used as a basis. Then this logic is used to propagate the database, the whole creating a system of self-propagation and transfer.
Project process
Circulation system Spaces distribution
Cosmospiral is the library of the universe. It contains all information, all the secrets, which are spread, hidden, even buried in the environment the library creates. All these secrets are connected and interwoven. There is more than one path that will guide someone on his or her quest to learn, discover, and know. The paths are long, so long that they seem endless. They constantly fork, turn and dive, leading to clear or crooked lanes, they guide every man who enters the space. At the same time, he can feel disoriented, not knowing the way, or even just how to orient himself anymore.
All along the paths, there are successions of rooms, varying in shape, size, materiality, openings, and lighting, going from darkness to brightness. Every room is depending on the preceding one, marking a strict distinc-tion some times, or progressive evolution. These pieces distributed along the paths hide wonders, some discover them, others just pass by without even knowing how to apprehend them.
The library is extremely logical, it hides its own information. Everything can be read through its genes and their combination, however, for an unexpert eye, Cosmospiral would look as confusing as a labyrinth. You just have to have to instructions, the map leading to the right places. However, when someone becomes lost, that is when the library reveals its most unexpected places containing the most advanced knowledge, the most incredible and fascinating discoveries. But be careful dreamer! The spiral is as much evil as perfect, once in it, it can retain you with its charm. It represents all your dreams, all your fantasies, like your worst nightmares.

The aim of the project was, on one hand, to pro-pose a new entrance for the Modern Art Muse-um located in the underground and on the other hand, to extend the existing building for contem-porary exhibitions. The entrance is a signal in the city and the building advertisement for what it hosts. The interior is organized so as to have dif-ferent views from one floor to another and on the city.
