BEHIND THE NAME

Studying law does not mean you have to become a lawyer who argues in courts (although this remains lucrative and well-respected). You might also choose to join a law firm or work as an in-house counsel with an MNC and earn a huge salary from day one. CLATapult was started in 2012 by three final-year students of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (NUJS), which is a Tier 1 CLAT university, reputed to be the best law school in India and a dream destination for all CLAT aspirants. While Google had its humble origins in a garage and Amazon in a basement, CLATapult was born in a makeshift classroom with just 5 students. In a short span it has grown to over 1000 students with state-of-the-art centers in Kolkata (2 centers, 2012), Bhubaneshwar (2016), Nagpur (2018) and now – PATNA. Our performance is ranked the best by miles in Eastern India, with over 100 success stories in the last three years. In 2018 alone, 25 CLATapult students were admitted to CLAT law schools, of which 10 secured admission to NUJS.

The driving force behind CLATapult was the desire to help CLAT aspirants understand the nuances of the subjects through creative means rather than conventional rote learning. With this in mind and having very recently been through the exam process themselves, the trio compiled study material and question banks that would help students learn as per this ideology. This was the reason for CLATapult's meteoric rise, which is unprecedented for a CLAT training center. As a matter of fact, CLATapult's success rate is 5 times higher than the national average.

THE CLATAPULT STORY

Vishrut Jain, our Founder, is an alumnus of NUJS. After graduating with honors in 2012, he went on to pursue a successful career in the corporate sector, while three of his law school mates wrote the first chapter of the CLATapult story.

Seeing the CLAT aspirants from these cities blossoming as a result of such quality training offered by CLATapult, it bothered Vishrut that the same was not available to CLAT aspirants from his hometown, Patna and the rest of Bihar. Students from Bihar are renowned for their intelligence and hard work. Then why is Bihar underrepresented in CLAT rankings? The fault lies in the current crop of CLAT training centers, which are nothing more than money making machines where CLAT aspirants are not provided the proper guidance required to make it into law school. Vishrut came to the conclusion that he needed to make a difference here and decided to move back home and set up an island of excellence in the form of a CLAT training center. And this is how CLATapult Patna was born.

We are new in Patna but bring years of experience from all over India with us. The CLATapult brand represents care. It shows through in everything we do. WHO WE ARE

Vishrut is an alumnus of NUJS, batch of 2012. Even before graduation he had already secured a prestigious 'Day Zero' placement with ICICI Bank as a Legal Manager in Kolkata. He then shifted to Mumbai where he worked with the Tata group as a Senior Legal Manager. His next move was to YES Bank where he served as Assistant Vice President (AVP). Having worked in-house with Indian companies for 5 years, he moved abroad in 2017 as a Senior Associate with VDB Loi, a law firm in the South East Asian region with offices in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia. VDB Loi is the 2019 winner of the 'Most Innovative Law Firm in South East Asia' award by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), the foremost legal publication in the world.

A Patna boy through-and-through, Vishrut is a fourth-generation lawyer with law in his blood. He has been invited to speak at Cornell University, an Ivy League University located in New York State, USA. He has also been interviewed as a 'SuperLawyer'. At NUJS, he was the Director of the NUJS Society for Advancement of Criminal Justice (SACJ), Convenor of the NUJS Magazine Committee and member of the NUJS Literary and Debating Society (LDS). He was also active in moots, debates, Model United Nations (MUNs) and various other law school activities. He interned at law firms (AZB & Partners, Khaitan & Co., Universal Legal), advocates' chambers (Supreme Court, High Courts – Patna and New Delhi and various District Courts) and an NGO (Nidan, Patna). He also served a Judicial Clerk with Hon'ble Justice Jyoti Saran of the Patna High Court.

He is the Resident Faculty for the core law subject of Legal Aptitude. His passion for teaching goes back to his law school days where he would regularly mentor the junior batches, and continued into his corporate career where he regularly gave training to others. Varsha is an Advocate with 3 decades of experience. She is the backbone of CLATapult Patna and we are privileged to have her on board. Apart from her law degree, Varsha also holds an honors degree in Economics from the prestigious St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. She has taught English at various schools and CLAT law centers, helping many students get admission to CLAT universities along the way. She has developed and teaches Mastering English Made Easy (MEME) – a special course in English conversation focusing on improving verbal ability, which is a cornerstone of CLATapult Patna. She has worked as a copy and content editor at Bharti Bhawan Publishers and Distributors, Patna. Her versatility extends from judging debates at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) to being the President of the Parent-Teacher Association, Notre Dame Academy, Patna. CLATapult understands that you require more than just classroom support and so we have set up unique mechanisms at CLATapult through which you receive constant guidance from our faculty. Mastering English Made Easy (MEME) is a flagship program of CLATapult Patna providing spoken English training to those interested in improving their abilities or honing their skills to converse in English with ease, clarity and confidence, whether it is for a job interview or social interaction. It is conceptualised, developed and led by the Resident Faculty for English, Varsha Jain.

MEME classes are held once a week, with each class lasting one hour, for a duration of 3 months (total 12 class hours). This fun-filled and can't-miss course is sure to get you talking!

MEME is an optional course over and above CLAT training. It is also available separately on a standalone basis, but is offered to CLAT aspirants free of cost.

CLATapult Patna offers guest lectures by legal luminaries such as eminent lawyers and CLAT school alumni. The idea behind this initiative is that such sessions provide invaluable guidance to CLAT aspirants, not only in terms of content and substance, but also in providing direction and purpose in pursuing law as a career. GUEST LECTURES

CLATapult Patna is not need-blind. We understand that while the availability of good quality CLAT training is itself a barrier to access CLAT law schools, there are some students who, despite excelling in their studies and being highly motivated, may fall short merely because of financial constraints.

For such candidates, CLATapult Patna offers 2 merit-based 50% tuition scholarships per batch of 20 students. If you wish to be a CLAT aspirant but are lacking the financial privilege to access CLATapult training, you may consider applying for one of these scholarships.
