3rd Sunday of Easter
At one time in our life, we encounteran event or person that, in one wayor another, has touched our lives,
effecting change, to where change is dueand in the end, turning our lives for the
better for good. As the song goes, BecauseI knew You, I have been changed for thebetter. I have been changed for good...
After the Resurrection, the story ofJesus Empty Tomb was trending thattime. While on their way to Emmaus, two of His disciples were talking about it.They were so engrossed about it that theydid not recognize Him journeying withthem. They were even telling Him that Hewas the only one in Jerusalemwho did not know of thenews. Their hearts wereburning as He explainedto them the Scriptures. They were not even
aware that He was opening their heartsand minds to understand that what waswritten is actually unfolding right beforetheir very eyes. The time came for them toeat and there, they recognized Him in the
breaking of the bread. When they did, Hevanished from their sight. In retrospect, they felt simply amazed at how their hurtswere burning as He explained to them theScriptures so that they came to believe thatwhat was written is really happening!
It happens that by the time werecognize the in- depth meaningof events in our lives or cometo really know a person, they
va ni sh . They get lost
from our sight. Just as what is expressedin our saying, Anhin mo pa ang damokung patay na ang kabayo? and You willonly realize the importance of a person orthing when you lose that person or thing.
We need to decipher the daily eventsin our lives, even the persons we come intouch with, the people we meet. In oneway or another, we touch one anotherslives. Let us make each day count. Howabout living each day as though it were thelast day of our lives? How would we fare?I hope we strive to seek out in others theimage and likeness of God because each ofus was created so.
Emmaus, the turningpoint have you come tothat? In case you are stillrestless, find that Emmaus. Then begin your journeywith Jesus.

What Jesus Didto My Life
Invoking Jesus Divine Mercy
SIX WAYS TO BE HOLYFr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon
Rt. Rev. Higinio C. Velarde
The Pastor Speaks...
Jesus did a lot of things to my life. He
gave me life, blessings and gifts. He
heals me when I am sick. He blesses
me with knowledge. He bestows upon
me great gifts from the food I eat on the
table to the house that shelters me from
rain and heat. Jesus also gives His life for
us. Jesus paid with His life for our sins.
J
esus humility and divinity areremembered by us Christians as thebases of our faith. His humility deines
Him as one of our Brothers, and thegreatest love one, His divinity deines not
only how His miraculous powers work but
how the Father loves us by reconstructing
our faith. We call out for help to the most
high in our work in studies and in dailylives through Divine Mercy of Jesus.
According to our basic Christian
knowledge, we ask for Jesus help through
prayer. There are different kinds ofprayer and this includes the adoration,
The canonization of the two holy popesnamely St. John Paul II and St. JohnXXIII propels us to review the life of
se two Supreme Pontiffs and learn fromir good example.
According to one of my readings, Popen XXIII was able to privately publish a
ok of some 727 letters written over thers to his family. Written in his spiritualobiography, Journal of a Soul, were six brief
xims for attaining holiness or perfection.we recall these in mind and heart, we hopeollow them so that like St. John XXIII, wemay become holy. Here are the six brief maxims:Desire to be virtuous and so pleasingto God.Direct all things and thoughts, as well asactions, to the increase, the service andthe glory of Holy Church.Recognize that I have been sent here byGod and therefore remain perfectlyserene about all that happens, not onlyas regards myself, but also with regardto the Church, continuously to work andsuffer with Christ for her g ood.Entrust myself at all times to DivineProvidence.
aton isigkatawo.Ang luyag silingon sining nahauna nga
o amo ini: Ihatag sa Dios nga imo Amayg iya gid kaugalingon nga lugar santro sang imo kabuhi. Magkabuhi ikaw
pagtuo, paglaom kag paghigugma saos, nga amo ang Amay sang tanan.
Ini nga sugo indi lamang amo ang
come in our life, we should stay calm and beat peace for God who sends us for a missionwill be there to help, gu ide and care for us.
The fourth maxim teaches us to trust inGods providence. We have a Good Shepherdwith whom we can never be found wanting. Our prayer, give us this day our daily breadis not left unanswered. We learn to share ourblessings to others without reserve becauseGod who could not be outdone in generosity
will even repay us a hundredfold. The ifth maxim is to be nothing. To be
nothing means to empty ourselves from ourpride, from our sense of self-suficiency, fromour ego so that we can learn to love and relyupon God who will give us the strength andthe capacity to love. Everything is grace. Apartfrom God we can do nothing.
And the last maxim is to always arrangeour day in an intelligent and orderly manner. How many of us do this? We need to discernwhat God wants us to do for th e day. Prayer isessential so that we live a life in accord to thewill of God.
It is my prayer that these six brief maximsof our new intercessor, St. John XXIII, will helpus attain perfection.
Jesus loves us. He loves everyone.
Jesus loves us. He went down to
earth to teach us great values. He healed
the sick. He made the blind see, the lame
walk and the dead to live. Je sus loves us
all and all He asks is for us to be good to
one another and pay respect to others.
5. Always acknowledge my own nothingness.6. Always arrange my day in an intelligent
and orderly manner.
How many of us still desire to be virtuous?Do we consciously strive to be pleasing to God?When I was a child, I remember that I haveto renew my desire to become a saint afterwatching a movie about the saints. I would beediied by the witnessing of the saints like St.
Francis of Assisi, St. Therese of the Child Jesus,Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and thelike. Then, I tell God in my prayer, I want tobe a saint too. Please help me. Learning fromtheir exemplary lives, I believe that the surestway to become a saint is to love God, seekingto please Him by following His will momentby moment.
Another way to be holy is to direct allthings, thoughts and actions to the glory ofthe Church. We are urged to offer our wholebeing and all our endeavors even though howsimple and ordinary they may be for the goodof the Church. All of us can contribute for thebuilding up of Gods kingdom in our midst byutilizing our God-given gifts and charisms.
The third maxim of John XXIII reminds usof our mission. When trials and tribulations
aton Ginuo kag Tagtuga.
(Akon padayunon ini nga pagpaathag samasunod nga isyu.)

etc. After the presentation, Fr.Joenick requested the catechistsrepresenting Our Lady ofthe Immaculate Conception,Mary, the Mother of God andAssumption to stand in front. He explained the Dogmas of theChurch on Mary as follows: Marythe Mother of God,that Mary wasthe mother of Jesus who is God wasdened as dogma at the very citywhere Mary had lived for severalyears, at the Council of Ephesus in431AD. CCC# 495: Called in theGospels the mother of Jesus,Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth,at the prompting of the Spirit andeven before the birth of her son, asthe mother of my Lord, In fact, the One whom she conceived asman by the Holy Spirit,... Hencethe Church confesses that Mary istruly Mother of God (Theotokos).Immaculate Conception ofMary, that Mary of Nazareth wasconceived without original sin was
dened as dogma by Pope Pius IX in1854. See CCC# 491-492; 508. CCC#508: From among the descendantsof Eve, God chose the Virgin Maryto be the mother of his Son. Full ofgrace, from the rst instant of herconception, she was totally preservedfrom the stain of original sin and sheremained pure from all personal sinthroughout her life and the Assumptionof Mary into heaven, that Marys bodydid not experience corruption but wasassumed into heaven was dened asdogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950. SeeCCC# 966; 974. CCC# 974: The MostBlessed Virgin Mary, when the courseof her earthly life was completed, wastaken up body and soul into the gloryof heaven, where she already sharesin the glory of her Sons Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of allmembers of his Body.
The other titles of the BlessedVirgin signies the place of herapparition like Our Lady of Fatima asshe appeared to the three childrenat a place called Fatima in Portugal.
She is also called Our Lady ofLourdes, because the place ofher apparition to Bernadette wasat Lourdes, France. Fr. JoenickTerritorio explained clearly theimportant features about theBlessed Virgin Mary.
We know that the wholemonth of May is dedicated to theBlessed Virgin Mary commonlycalled Flores de Mayo. Thechildren are looking forward forthis month, for this is the time forthem to go to their chapel, gatherlowers to be offered to Our Ladyand sing her songs. After theoffering, they are given meriendaby some of the generous people inthe barangay.
The next day the catechistswere given kits which containseveral materials needed for thelores.

April 30, 2014. Now that John
Paul II and John XXIII have
been canonized, its business as
usual for Pope Francis. He led his weekly
general audience, focusing his catechesis
on the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
He talked about the gift
of understanding, which he
described as a grace that allows
people to better understand God.
This is what the Holy Spirit does with
us. The Spirit opens the mind, so we can
better understand the Divine, humanity
and situations.
Actually receiving the grace of
understanding, he said, is not based
on intellect, nor is it a special ability.
One can understand a situation withhuman intelligence and wisely-this is
good. But understanding a situation in
depth, as understood by God is the real
eect of this gift.

April 27, assured the faithful that they

For those of us who say its hard
to be holy, the canonization of people
whom we know, people who are part of
our generation, is a declaration [that]holiness is real. It is given to all. You can
be holy, said he.
The prelate made this statementduring a mass he celebrated in honorof late pontiffs, now oficial Catholic
saints, John XXIII and John Paul II, whose
double canonization at the Vaticanwas witnessed via live streaming by
thousands of Filipinos gathered at the
SMART Araneta Coliseum in Cubaospeciically for the historic occasion.

of the world, ordinary baptized people, but all
of us have been given the grace of holiness and
we are called to live by holiness, Tagleexplained.

PRAYER FOR VOCATION
Its also a grace thats key in
understanding the Scriptures. To make
this point, he referenced a Gospe
reading of Emmaus, which describes how
the disciples were so lled with sorrow
they couldnt recognize the presence o
Jesustheir pain was blinding.
You can read the Gospel and
understand something, but if you read the
Gospel through the gift of the Holy Spirit
we can understand Gods Word in depth
This is a great gift, a great gift we mus
all pray for.
Roughly 40,000 people took part in
the general audience. Many of them were
Polish, since they decided to stay a few
days after the canonization. The Pope
greeted them and now that John Paul Iis a saint, he encouraged them to pray fo
his intercession.

Dress Code in Going to Church
Respond! Rebuild! Resurrect!
Courage! Strength! Faith!Pureza D. Lacuesta
We are living in a world ofcontradictions where instabilityand doubts ill our lives with fear
and unrest. This is the time to show oursincerity, strength, courage, and faith.
Many modern philosophers speakonly about modern trends and valuesand even launt them in public fearlessly, proving their correct understanding andknowledge. From behavior, to speech,to the manner of dressing, to publicentertainments and many more, there aremany changes which are against moralvalues and decency.
Last Sunday was Divine Mercy Sundayand also the canonization of two Popes, now St. John XXIII and St. John Paul II. Ourtwo new Popes are very much aware ofour need for more strength and courage.Let us appeal to Jesus of Divine Mercy to
let the Blood and Water from His Heartlow down upon us, so that our courageand strength will be renewed, making ourfaith low on fearlessly as we travel.
Let us stop complaining and criticizing.Instead, we must put on the armor of our
faith and prove our capacity to ward offtemptations and hindrances. God is above, behind and beside us. Why should we fear?We need prayer to make us do what is right.
Praying the rosary daily is one of ourstrength. Upon waking up or before goingto bed at night, try praying the rosary andyou will not regret.

My devotion to God the Father andJesus of Divine Mercy have given mestrength and stamina which I nevehad before. I can still continue twrite and teach.
Try having a devotion to God thFather and Son and you will develop aspiritual conidence beyond description.
I do not want to write in detail the crossethat we are carrying now but we are savedenough to understand that many roads havbecome muddy, or stony, or full of crevicesHowever, we must not be cowards.
Pray for courage, strength and faithThe clouds will soon disappear. Ththorns in life will soon be removed.
Nothing is impossible if we hav
spiritual courage, spiritual strength andunbreakable faith in God.
I have found an inspiration in myold age which makes me conident andspiritually strong. I pray to the BlessedMother, the Queen of the Seven Swords andthe Way of the Cross daily. No matt er howbusy I am, I always give time to these twoprayers. I never give old age as my excusefor doing extra activities. One time, a friendasked how old I am. She was surprisedwhen she learned that I shall be 87 yearsin December. When she learned that I amstill writing articles for speeches, she askedme what food and vitamins I was taking. I
Madugay na nga isyu ang adlaw
nga dapat kabigon nga balaan
para sa Dios. Sabado bala ukon
mingo? Ang iban nagasiling adlaw nga
bado ukon Sabath kay ini maathag kuno
a ginatudlo sang Santos nga Kasulatan
gad. Ginapatungod ini sang Dios
mga Israelinhon tungod ini isa ka
espesyal nga adlaw para sa ila nga
ila ginakabig nga Independence Day
tungod sang paghilway sa ila gikan sa
pagka-ulipon didto sa Ehipto, Deut.
5:15 dumduma nga ikaw nangin
ulipon sa Ehipto, kag ang Ginoo nga
imo Dios nagpaguwa sa imo gikan
didto.busa ang Ginoo nga imo Dios
nagsugo sa imo sa pagbantay sang
adlaw nga inugpahuway.
Ang Sabado amo ang adlaw nga
ginpili sang mga Judio bilang adlaw
sang inugpahuway. Ila ini gin-kopya sa
mga pagano nga taga Babylonia nga ang
pagtawag amo ang Sabathum. Yadtong
sugo para sa mga katawhan sang Israel
sa Daan nga Katipan. Siling ni San Pablo
sa 2Cor 5:17Busa kon ang bisan sin-o
nga tawo yara kay Kristo, bag-o Sia nga
tinuga; ang daan nagtaliwan, yari karon
ang tanan nangin bag-o na. Gani wala
ginhimo sang Ginoo kita magkalipay
kag magkasadya sa sini. Amo man ang
apostoles. Kag agud mahibaluan ang
kinalain sang Adlaw nga Balaan sang
mga Katoliko kag indi Katoliko.
