CAMPUS HUMMING WITHCONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY

by Dean C. Blackwell"One day you see it, the next day

you don 't" was the story of three buildings standing in the way of progresson the Ambassador College campusduring the ministers' conferences. Never in eleven years have I seen thecampus so alive with a beehive of construction activity. - There were yoursons who attend God 's college contributing their parts to Amb assador'sgrowth. In the thirtieth year of Christ'slife He began to reveal himself to theworld, and in the beginning of ourthirtieth year, city and county officialsin both Pasadena and Bricket-woodwere amazed at the plans and growthof these uniqu e colleges, as they touredthe properties. And yet, as Mr. Armstrong unbelievably stated a few yearsago, the college campu s has been worththe expense and effort if it obtains forus through its impressiveness one val-

LAGRANGE STOPSSOUTH BEND WINNING STREAK

by Ken Ellis

The South Bend basketball team lostfor the first time this season to a sharpshooting, team-playing LaGrange five. The contest was hard-played and exciting for the spectators that Sundaymorning, December 29th, in Chicago'sLawndale Park gym.

South Bend drew first points as Mr.lames Hambrock scored, but by theend of the first quarter were losing20-16. South Bend never recapturedthe lead. At the half it was 38-28 butthe 10-point difference was cut downseveral times in the last half. SouthBend had tightened its man-to-mandefense but even so Mr. Dean Blackwell was able to drive through for thefi rs t score after the half-t ime re stperiod.

By the end of the 3rd quarter it wasSouth Bend 46, LaGrange 56. The 4thquarter saw some really fast act ion asMr. Don DeBoy, S.B. Forward , startedto intercept passes and really hit fromway-out-and-over the LaGr angers zonedefense. The S.B. Center, Don Smith, who must be about 6' 5" , was a hardman to beat on the backb oard s. Butall the Hoosier team could do was tono avail against fast breaks by Mr .Blackwell and Me.Will Ball and againstthe constant accuracy of Forw ard, Me.Allen Manteufel, who wound up thegame's top scorer with 30 point s! Mr.Blackwell was the second highest scorerof the game. He constantly poured onthe steam and racked up 22 points.Me. lack Pyle and Me. Ball scored 12points each for the LaGrangers. TheSouth Bend individual scores were Mr .DeBoy 16: Donald Smith, 14; Mr .Hambrock and Dale Haynes, 12 each;Wil Topash, 8; Frank McCrady, Jr., 6.

We were happy to see Mr. FrankMcCr ady, Sr., who coaches the SouthBend five. Referees were Me. DaveShell and Mr. Robert Marshall, whoare regular players on the Chicagoteam. The final score was LaGrange76, South Bend 70. We certainly wishall could have been out to see thisthriller!

Yes, a combinat ion gymna sium, assembly room, and social center willsoon stand on these prope rties wherewe saw three houses disapear in threedays. The final Sabbath of 1963 was a bigday in the lives of the Chicago andLaGrange Church members. Threenew deacons were ordained - two atLaGrange and one at Chicago.

Ordained to the rank of deacon during the Chicago service was Mr. PhillipFowler. Currently he is president ofthe Monday evening Spokesman Club. His fine example of enthusiasm andservice to his brethren has certainlybeen rewarded. Now he has the opportunity to serve even more. Although he was ordained at Chicago,Mr. and Mrs. Fowler and Roy, Rhonaand Robin regularly attend the LaGrange services.

'So he was seven years in building it"(God's house), 1 Kings 9:00,15. But"Solomon was building his own housethirteen years" - 1 Kings 6: 39 andKings 7: 1. As members of God'sChurch, too many of us have provenwhere our heart is by not having ourtreasure in God's work and house andcollege, but instead in our own desiresand ambitions. Remember Christwarned us that "where your treasureis, there will your heart be also" Matt. 6:21.

God's college and our college needsa new dining hall, a large assemblyand church building for God's headquarters church in which Christ coulddwell spiritually. This would also bea great boon to God's headquarters inwinning our way into more radio stations and favor with business dealingsin general. Can we provethat we havethe heart of our father David, who issoon to rule all Israel right here onthis earth? Notice where his heartwas - "the king said to Nathan theprophet, See now, I dwell in an houseof cedar, BUT the ARK OF GODdwells within curtains" - 2 Sam. 7:2.Have we proven this to be our attitudeby our fruits, or are we not much morelike selfish Solomon in his building of

his own house twice as large and almost twice as long in construction asGod's house?

Are we laying up treasure in heavenby the use of our money or mammon,or selfishly spending much more onourselves and finding fault with thebeauty of God's own college andgrounds? See what God has promisedKing David because of his love forthe things of God and unselfishness "he shall build a house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of hiskingdom forever" - 2 Sam. 7: 13.Will that also be your eternal home anddwelling place? Or will you continueto trust in your physical surroundingswhile ignoring God's college and workand its needs and go into oblivion withyour possessions? Let's get to workbuilding God's dwelling places andsecure for ourselves eternal habitationsin His kingdom.· .

Because much of this issue isdevoted to news of the recent •

• ministerial conference, the Learn• the Bible by Chapter will be en: closed with the next paper.· .
