Salient Features in the construction of School buildings, Additional Classrooms:

i. Proper soil testing is done on each site to assess the suitability of the foundation and

design of the building.

ii. Earthquake Resistance:- Proper earthquake provisions as per National Building Code are

being adopted for construction (Bands at Plinth level, lintel level, roof level etc.)

iii. RCC Roof is being considered as per design for the roofing.

iv. Water proofing mud phaska/coba work on the roof.

v. The width of the Stair Case have been kept as 1.5 mtr with Handrail have been provided

keeping in view of fire protection norms, Stair Case with mumty lead up to the top of

the roof, parapet wall on the roof and proper door fixed in the entry to the roof.

vi. One cupboard have been provided for storage of books and teaching material in each

ACR

vii. One ventilator, three window, two doors are being provided for each classroom for

sufficient air ventilation and to meet out fire safety.

viii. One green board for writing surface, one pinup board is being provided in each ACR

and multiple Colours used in Walls/Doors

ix. Suitable size Ramp with Railing in 1:10 or 1:12 slope is being provided for each

building block..

x. Kota Stone flooring/suitable tiles flooring

xi. Verandah – 1.8 mtr – 2 mtr width- covered with tiles upto 2 mtr.

xii. Room size: 42-44 Sq. mtr. (approx.) with Double door (1 door-3ft., 1 door-4ft., with 2

panels of 1 ft. & 3ft.)

xiii. Four ceiling fans & 5 tube lights, 1 power point, 2 switch boards with power points one

near the door and one near the black board.

xiv. Specification and estimate to be based on CPWD norms & DSR

xv. Drinking water facility, developmental work as per requirement (for school building).

xvi. Provision of BaLA concepts as per requirement (like Geometrical shape grills, Green

black board, dot board, pinup board & Pictograph, Paintings on walls with different

colors, Protractor near the door etc.)

xvii. Entire building from one end to other end be covered with steps

xviii. Writable surface be constructed on walls of the verandah.

xix. Rain Water harvesting in newly constructed schools are also provided

xx. Fire Safety measures are also provided in various schools.

Provision in the construction of Toilets

1. One W.C & one for Handicapped unit & three Urinal closet

2. Hand wash provision

3. Incinerator for disposal of Sanitary pads preferably electrical operation

4. PVC storage tank of 1000 litre.

5. Tiles flooring, cistern etc.

6. Tiles in the wall upto 2-1 mtr.

7. Drainage to the existing available disposable system.

8. Electrical- one exhaust Fan & Two or three energy efficient lights

9. Covered area – approx 25 sq. mtr.

Ramps:

1. Gradient 1:12

2. Railing on either side with mixed colours

3. Anti skid tiles with smooth finishing

4. Hand railing with some BaLA concepts

5. Width 1.6 -1.8 mtr.
