RCTC Corona Metrolink Parking StructureCorona, CA

Owen’s provided structural construction management and design of CCTV system as well as support of civil engineering team on Metrolink station in Corona.

The project consisted of a six-level, 375,000-square foot, 1,100 car parking structure and pedestrian bridge for the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC). A digital, CCTV system comprised of a 40 camera surveillance system provides views from within the structure and on the adjacent Metrolink platform.

Santa Fe Depot Transportation CenterSan Bernardino, CA

As turn-key project manager, Owen provided all staff resources to oversee the project from design through construction completion. This $25 million project is led by City of San Bernardino Redevelopment Department in association with SANBAG and Metrolink. The terminal provides service for one Amtrak and three Metrolink lines. Owen provided full service Project Management, Architectural and Engineering Design, and Construction Management Services for this project.

Long Beach Airport Expansion & Parking StructureLong Beach, CA

Owen provided full engineering services including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering for this airport expansion and four-level, 4,200 car parking garage. Owen is the Engineer of Record with ARB Construction for what became one of the largest design-build projects for airport and street/loop (lane addition) improvements in California.

TransportationPerris Valley Transit Line Multi-Modal FacilityPerris, CA

Owen provided engineering services for the new parking lot and layover facility at the Perris Metrolink Multi-modal Facility. The site improvements included 2000 feet of on-site storm drainage with 5 catch basins. It also included boring 3 casings under existing BNSF railroad tracks for utility and storm water systems. As part of widening a 1,200 foot stretch of roadway with 2 concrete intersections, existing storm drains, city water mains, fire hydrants and fiber optics were relocated. A new signal-controlled intersection was built to meet Caltrans specifications.

Los Angeles Unified School District South Region Elementary School #3Cudahy, CA

Civil Engineer services for the complete programming, master planning, and full-service engineering design services for a new K-6 elementary school. The 4.4 acre ES #3 site is located in LAUSD’s South Region, in the City of Cudahy. The new Elementary School and Early Education Center (EEC) will have 951 new seats and is estimated to cost $82 million. The school facilities will include classrooms, a library, multi-purpose room,, food service and lunch shelter, administration, playfields, and underground parking. A new early education center, South Region EEC #1, will be combined with this new elementary school.

Civil Engineer services and full-service design and engineering for this new $46 million elementary school project. The complete scope of work for this project included off-site civil design for the widening of Firestone Boulevard, Hunt and Kauffman Avenues and a new Access Road due to the vacation of Dorothy Street at the school site.

Overall design tasks included providing street, sanitary sewer, storm drain, and street lighting improvement plans. Preparation of hydraulic/hydrology report, SWPPP/SUSMP, signing and striping plans were included, as well as planters and tree wells on the sidewalk supplementing the work for the City of South Gate’s work on the Firestone Boulevard median. The fence material on Firestone was upgraded to wrought iron as requested by the City.

Existing Facility Review & ADA Site UpgradesLos Angeles USD, CA

Owen provided civil engineering services for as-needed engineering services to provide ADA accessibility site assessments, constructability review services, civil survey, and design services for work on 77 existing K-12 schools. Previous modernization or barrier removal projects at each school included a non-certified ADA accessibility requirement that required certification and close-out by the Division of the State Architect (DSA).

Owen provided Civil and full-design engineering services for the design build of a 273,000 SF, 14-story, 372 suite, full-service high-rise hotel in Glendale. Project includes an atrium, meeting and conference space, lounge and restaurant facility, gift shop, deli, and back-of house functions and spaces. The hotel features a three-level, subterranean parking structure to accommodate 350 vehicles.

Owen provided civil engineering services to provide ADA accessibility site assessments by Certified Accessibility Specialist (CASp) inspectors at each restaurant, evaluating and establishing designated ADA travel paths, documenting and photographing non-compliant areas and features. Owen is coordinating architectural, civil topographic surveys of non-compliant areas along the designated path of travel.

Owen is providing civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural programming, design engineering, and construction support services for the new In-Patient Tower 2 Project at Tulare Regional Medical Center (TRMC). Civil engineering services include site plan, grading, drainage, and water quality/storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), and road realignment.

Owen provided civil engineering services to Lowe Enterprises for the Portola Condominium complex in Oceanside, CA.

Portola is an eight-level, 80,000 square foot mixed-use development project, comprised of 15 luxury condominium units with two and three bedrooms with two and three bathrooms, four street-level live/work loft units, four office/professional suites/retail and a two-level subterranean parking structure of more than 25,000 square feet.

Street ImprovementsLos Angeles County

Owen provided complete civil engineering, electrical engineering, and planning services for various street improvement projects for the cities of Cudahy and South Gate, within Los Angeles County. Streets included Live Oak Street, Firestone Boulevard, Hunt Avenue, and Kaufman Avenue. The scopes of work included design for street widening, site improvements including grading and drainage, storm drain improvements, and utility relocations and connections.

Compton Senior Activity CenterCompton, CA

Owen is providing civil full service engineering services as well as engineering services to Lowe Enterprises and the City of Compton for the new Compton Senior Activity Center. The project involves preparation of civil drawings and specifications and construction management support. Civil services include demolition plans, grading plans, underground utility plans, project QSD, SWPPP preparation and data entry into SMARTS.

Owen provjded preparation of a strategy report, and presentation of retrofit strategies for the Water Street Bridge in the City of Industry and Alameda Street Bridge over Compton Creek in Compton. Strategies included abutment seat extension, end diaphragm strengthening, lumber blocking, steel bearing retrofit/replacement, transverse shear keys, and cable restrainers. Dynamic analysis, strategy report and retrofit strategies for the AT & Santa FE Railroad Bridge over Huntington Drive and Second Avenue in Arcadia, CA

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Blue Line Station Refurbishments – 21 StationsLos Angeles, CA

Design/Build team of Amoroso-Owen was contracted by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for the Metro Blue Line project involving refurbishments of the entire group of 21 Metro Blue Line stations. Owen Group, as a design partner to Amoroso, is providing full design and ADA accessibility/compliance for all the 21 Blue Line stations and rail platforms. These refurbishments will upgrade the 20+ year old stations with a renewed look, as well as sustainable technology.

Shell Oil and Gas Operations ComplexKhor Al Zubair, Iraq

Owen was retained by ALMCO, a Baghdad Iraq-based design/build construction firm, to design the Shell Gas Iraq KAZ oil and gas operations complex in Khor Al Zubair, Iraq (southern Iraq). It consists of a wide variety of facilities for worker accommodations and other functions.

The accommodations buildings include 13 residential buildings. The other buildings in the Shell Gas Iraq KAZ oil and gas operations complex include a variety of buildings that are typical of this type of industrial community. These include main office/security, kitchen and dining facility, medical clinic, recreation/gym facility, camp administration office, laundry, mosque, guard towers, and security perimeter. MEP design, IT design and structural design for all buildings covers HVAC, controls, domestic cold water, domestic hot water, waste, vent, plumbing fixtures, electrical power, lighting, data and voice communications systems, and building structures.

Schlumberger Oil Operations BaseBasra, Iraq

Owen teamed with Baghdad-based, design/build construction firm, ALMCO, to implement an oil operations base for Schlumberger in the North Rumayla Oilfield, about 42 kilometers from Basra, Iraq. Owen provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and structural engineering for the facilities.

The scope of facility development entailed the design and construction of a small industrial/residential campus of approximately 160,000 square meters. The campus includes residential accommodations for workers, as well as facilities for food preparation and dining, recreation, ablution and showering, lavatories, medical clinic, religious accommodations, office and administration, support, and safe haven. Industrial facilities include maintenance workshops, oil equipment service facilities, wash bays, labs, power generation, water and wastewater treatment, tanks, and other allied facilities. The campus is surrounded by a security berm, walls, fencing, and other security facilities.

Owen provided full design services for the air traffic control tower at the Taji Air Base in Iraq.

Our scope of work involved architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and civil engineering design services. This project was delivered using the design-build method.

U.S. Army Limited MOI Maintenance ComplexSalman Pak, Iraq

Owen provided electrical engineering design services for a new maintenance building in Salman Pak, Iraq. This project was delivered using the design-build method.

The project is a vehicle maintenance complex, which consists of a maintenance garage, warehouses, barracks, ablution/laundry facilities, power house, and a fuel station.

International / FederalU.S. Army Limited Fueling StationsTallil and Numaniyah, Iraq

Owen provided the mechanical design work that included fueling equipment, piping, and control systems for the fueling stations in Tallil and Numaniyah, Iraq.

The fueling stations each consist of seven 100,000 liter of mogas tanks, seventeen 100,000 liter of diesel tanks, two 50,000 liter kerosene tanks, two 10,000 liter oil tanks, and associated piping and fueling equipment. Both projects were delivered using the design-build method.

Northern Second Freeway Keelung Hsiche SectionTaipei, Taiwan

Owen provided structural engineering design services for a design/build project of an 11-mile viaduct using an Incremental Launch System in Taipei, Taiwan.

The project was done in two segments. The first segment was with an Incremental Launch System and the second segment was with moving travelers. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule.

US Army Limited Fueling Stations

Travis Air Force Base Visiting QuartersFairfield, CA

Owen was selected to perform full-service engineering and architecture services for the design-build construction of a new visiting quarter’s facility at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA.

The Travis Visiting Quarters is a four-story U-shaped building divided into two wings and a center lobby, administration offices, and maintenance rooms. The 350-room, Visiting Quarters includes site improvement, utility services and all other required improvements. The U-shaped plan had structural plan irregularities; therefore the design utilized the dynamic analysis procedure of the code to arrive with base shear designing the lateral systems.

NAVFAC Southwestern Division, San Diego - Open-End ContractSan Diego, CA

Owen was contracted by NAVFAC Southwestern Division San Diego to preform many bridging and scoping document for Design-build project in various Naval & Marine bases throughout the NAVFAC Southwestern Division facilities. These projects included for energy upgrade to new facilities.

Featured Project:Public Works - CALTRANS Bridge Program

For the Caltrans District 4, Northern California Bridge Retrofit Program, Owen teamed with CalTrans to provide structural engineering services to many contractors such as Balfour Beatty, Atkinson, C.C. Meyers, Dillingham, and Penhall during the design and construction phases of the many bridge retrofit projects in Northern

California. BFL Owen services during the design phase of this bridge project included field review and data collection, bridge analysis (dynamic analysis/ non-linear static push over analysis), PS&E, traffic studies, retaining wall and sound wall design, staging plan, and PS&E multi-agency coordination with the City of Oakland and Caltrans.

In addition, Owen provided vibration monitoring during pile driving and concrete demolition during the construction phase of the project. Other services provided during the construction phase were pre- and post-structural survey, documentation of bridge conditions, elevation monitoring of superstructure during seismic retrofit, temporary support design for superstructure during seismic retrofit of footings and columns, preparation of cost reduction incentive program (CRIP) by redesigning seismic retrofit presented in design documents, structural inspection, inspection of temporary support structure, and inspection of rebar placement for CRIP portion of seismic retrofit.

Services were also provided for the 280/Innes, 280/Augusta, 280/Army, 280/China Basin, 280/Evans, and Bay Bridge East Bay Approach projects.
