2016 Year Opener ConcertJanuary 1, 2016City Plaza

To welcome the year with a blast, The City Governmentthough the City Tourism Office together with special sponsors,conducted the 2016 Year Opener Concert held in the City Plaza.The feature artist was the country’s renowned OPM pop andballad band- The Freestyle. The concert was attended by anestimated 3,000 to 4,000 attendees. It was highlighted by thetraditional Annual Fireworks Display.

Kalap Festival Street Dancing CompetitionMarch 20, 2016City Plaza to OMNHS Grounds

One of the featured activities of the 18th Founding Anniversary of the City of Calapan isStreet Dancing Competition. It was participated by different schools, colleges and associationsfrom all over the City. It was held last March 20, 2016, the street dancing category was back

after the finished rehab of the San Vicente Bridge, back in 2015 when it was decided to excludethe street dancing performance for it may cause further traffic congestion in the CBD. Thecontingents showed their best to entertain the people of Calapan as well as the visitors fromacross the region. Eight (8) contingents participated in the said event, Nag-iba National HighSchool bagged the 1st Place, Pedro V. Panaligan MNHS was 2nd Place, while MINSCAT CalapanCampus was the 3rd Placer.

Kalap Festival Street Party Series is a cultural eventthat showcases the way of feast celebration in the City ofCalapan and to ease the tensions of every individual after ahard work in office, business and home activities. Featuredconcerts were GINEBRA San Miguel’s Ginuman Fest 2016held last March 19 featuring the country’s top performerQUEST and country’s hottest and sexiest celebrities- ELLENADARNA and ARCI MUNOZ followed by TMRepublikaravan held last March 21 and featured the country’stop rappers- ABRA, LOONEY held in JP Rizal St., whileJOEY BENIN OF SIDE A was on J. Luna Street on the samedate. Corporate sponsor and partners for this street party series was Globe Telecoms and GinebraSan Miguel.

The 3nd Kalap Photomarathon 2016Calapan City Events and Tourist AttractionsMarch 15-27, 2016

This was the first on-the-spot photo contest in the city. Itwas participated by different amateur and semi-professionalphotographers of the city. There were three (3) categories in thiscontest, the Event, Places and People. There was also a KalapChoice Award for the Best and most awarded photo of thecontest. The prizes were P2,500.00 for each category, P3,000.00for the Kalap Choice Award and consolation prizes for the non-winners.

It has theaim to advance biodiversity research and conservation in thePhilippines by facilitating communication and contributing toimproved research and conservation capabilities of thoseworking on Philippine biodiversity particularly members of theassociation, and to increase public awareness, appreciation, andunderstanding of Philippine biodiversity. The PhilippineBiodiversity Symposium is annually organized by the BCSP.The City Government of Calapan and the Mindoro BiodiversityConservation Foundation Inc, (MBCFI) served as the host andlocal partners.

In view of the celebration of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Month, the CityTourism Office partnered with the City Public Safety Department to conduct Disaster RiskReduction Management Training for the members of the Association of Restaurants and Café inCalapan (ARCC) and members of the Hotel and Resort Association of Calapan (HRAC) Theactivity aims to equip tourism establishments with techniques and knowledge in managingemergency situation in their establishments and be able to respond immediately with their guestsemergency needs.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region IV-MIMAROPA Office conducted the Advanced Tourism StatisticsTraining (ATST) for the City/Municipal Tourism and PlanningOfficers of Oriental Mindoro held last September 27-29, 2016 atMarco Vincent Dive Resort, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.The project is envisioned to help Local Government Units ingathering and processing significant tourism statistical data andeventually use them in the formulation of their tourismdevelopment plans.

While the fish sanctuaries becomes refuge for the fishes and be able to reproducemore. The Office was tasked in the promotion of the event (official poster), participation in theposter-making contest, kayak race and MPA Day Run.

MOTOTOUR 2016October 08, 2016Calapan

It was a motorcycle tour of the northern part of OrientalMindoro which started from the City of Calapan and will end inthe Municipality of Puerto Galera. This event was attended bymore than 300 riders and was participated by various motorcycleclubs, organization and individual motorcyclists from MetroManila and other provinces from as far as Region III. This is animportant tourism event for the City wherein we can promote ourcity and its different tourist attractions, history and culture andhighlight the different plans and programs of the CityGovernment.

As part of development of ecotourism destinations in theCity, the City Government thru the City Tourism Office incoordination with the DOT MIMAROPA Office held the TourGuiding Technique Seminar. This two (2) day seminar was givenby the accredited DOT Resource speaker Ms.Yael T. Fernandez.The seminar was enjoined by fisher folks from barangays ofLazareto, Calero, Salong, Balite and Silonay, all have tourismpotential sites from mangrove forest to coral reefs and sea grass.

MIMAROPA NATURALLY Trade FairOctober 18-24SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City

The Mimaropa Naturally Agri-Trade and Tourism Fair 2016 was held last 19-23 October2016 in Megatrade Halls 1 & 2, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. After its successful pilot

launching in 2015, MIMAROPA Naturally returned this yearwith more exhibitors, grandiose island pavilions, and eccentriccultural presentations. There were 125 MSMEs and exhibitorswho joined this year’s fair including DOT accreditedestablishments which were given the opportunity to showcasehomegrown products such as popular delicacies, processed foods,fashion and accessories, furniture and home décors, health andwellness products. The region’s diverse and exquisite touristdestinations were also highlighted. MIMAROPA NaturallyRegional Trade Fair aimed to be an annual social-cultural eventwhere both the people and heritage of the region were celebrated.

2nd MIMAROPA FESTIVAL 2016 ++November 4-14, 2016Puerto Princesa, Palawan

The participation in the 2nd MIMAROPA Festival 2016was a big and important experience for us in context of planningand preparation. Budget, logistics and the need for planning andpreparations were the immediate concerns. We have to prepare acontingent of around 130 pax for the street dancing includingtheir costumes, food, practice venues, transportation to and fromCalapan City and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.The office alsoprepared for the participation in Agri-Trade Fair andMIMAROPA King and Queen Competition.The saidparticipation was an over-all success, though we did not won inthe MIMAROPA King and Queen Pageant, the City of Calapanand its “Kalap Festival” won in the Street Dancing Competition and bagged the 1st Runner Upplace and taking home a P200,000.00 cash prize.

The City Tourism Office assisted the Association ofRestaurant and Cafes in Calapan in their outreach program heldin Brgy. Nacoco. To bring happiness during Christmas seasonfor the less fortunate families in the said barangay was thetarget beneficiaries. Mr. Leo de Leon of of Angelu’s Fastfoodprovided clowns for magics and entertainment for the kidswhile the members provided gift items, prizes, food and drinksfor the kids who attended. It was a successful event which is aregular activity of the said group.

This is the traditional presentation of different schools,organizations and groups who aims to share their talent and beone in the celebration of Christmas. This is also a preludeactivity for the City Fiesta 2017. The event was participated by 3School Districts- Calapan East, West and South. Big Bounce andKalap Dancers, Rivera’s School of Pop, Luna Goco Colleges, D’Dreamers, First Fiddle Symphony and the City College ofCalapan. Presentations of the nightly shows started fromDecember 15 up to 23, 2016. The Office was a co-organizertogether with the City Trade and Industry Department for thisevent.

Sto. Niño de Calapan Festival 2016December 31, 2016J. P. Rizal StreetCalapan City

The main highlight in the celebration of the City Fiestawas the street dancing parade in honor to our Patron Saint Sto.Niño. Right after the highway pilgrimage reaching 27 Barangaysof Calapan, participants were dancing from Provincial CapitolSquare up to Calapan City Plaza where the coronation of Sto.Niño takes place. This was participated by schools, colleges,senior citizens, private organizations, and government offices andthe Sto. Nino Parish. The Office was a co-organizer together withthe City Trade and Industry Department for this event.
