But the former City captain will be tackling an altogether different challenge next Sunday when he runs the Virgin Money London Marathon. The 36-year-old has wasted little time since being appointed an ambassador of Norwich City’s Community Sports Foundation (CSF) in January. Along with Canaries fans and staff from both the club and CSF, he will take to the famous 26.2 mile route across the heart of the capital to raise funds for CSF. Drury has been overwhelmed with the backing he has received so far from friends, family and City fans alike: “It’s been first class. The donations and support, I couldn’t have asked for more.” “Norfolk is a second home to me. The people have been nothing but great to me and my family when we’ve been here and now this is a chance to give a little back to the community.” Despite only retiring from professional football eight months ago, Drury has placed himself under an intensive training schedule in order to prepare himself for the big day. So how does training for a marathon compare to his football days? “It’s totally different. My distance was 18 yards - tackling people and kicking the ball down Matt Watson (CSF Health Trainer), Adam Drury and Chloe Pellican (NCFC Football Analyst) will all be running the marathon in aid of the Community Sports Foundation a line! It’s been tough and gets a bit lonely at times. But you’ve got to put the work in and hopefully, you’ll get the benefits from it.” However, Drury has been decidedly coy on revealing what his finish expectations are: “As long as Captain Canary doesn’t go running by me, I’ll be more than happy!” Adam Drury and ‘Team Norwich City’ are raising funds for Norwich City’s Community Sports Foundation.
