ERASMUS MUNDUS MASTER COURSE IN CITY REGENERATION. DESIGN LAB 3. CITY AND HERITAGE. COURSE 2011-2012 FORMATIVE UNIT: City Integrated Ecosystems Management. DEPARTMENT: Architectural Projects - Continuous Medium Mechanics and Theory of Structures. TEACHING STAFF: Eva María Álvarez Isidro – Begoña Serrano Lanzarote. CREDITS: 3,5 LEARNING OUTCOMES: This formative unit is organized in two blocks with their inevitable crosscuts: Block A addressed to highlight comprehensive concepts (E. Álvarez) Block B addressed to highlight efficiency concepts (B. Serrano) Block A (20 hours): Theoretical approach based on work in case study. Outcomes when finishing the Block A, in order of importance: 1. Students should know and use a specific practical and theoretic index. 2. Students should understand the city and the human habitat as an overlapping ecosystem modeled by Forces, Functions and Forms. 3. Students are also expected to be able to argument their approach to design attending to gender and diversity mainstreaming in architecture and urbanism so as they should have solid notions on sustainable positions and participatory processes. 4. They should know how to express their arguments by means of graphic tools and 3D tools (models and renders) Block B (10 hours): Integrated urban regeneration. New strategies and smart models of management. Outcomes when finishing the Block B.
