THE FOUNDERShaheed Hakim Mohammed Said (1920-1998) established Hamdard Dawakhana Pakistan in 1948. Within few years, the herbal medicines products of Hamdard became household names. The phenomenal business success of Hamdard brands is a legendary part of the business history of Pakistan.

The name Hamdard however acquired a still wider meaning, when Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said founded Hamdard University in 1991. The establishment of a university which could enliven the intellectual traditions of the educational institutions of the Golden Era of Muslim Civilization, had always been his most cherished dream. In fact, it was the central point towards which all his endeavors were directed. The founding of the University was the culmination of a long dedicated and continued effort which spanned over his whole life.

Apart from being a great educational leader, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was also one of the finest exponents of Eastern Medicine, who had treated millions of patients the world over by the time of his martyrdom (Shahadat) in October 1998. In the fifty years of his active career as a practitioner of Greco-Arab medicine par excellence, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said also achieved international fame as a scholar and researcher in medicine. In recognition of his meritorious services and scholarly achievements he was awarded Nishan-e-lmtiaz (Posthumous) by the Government of Pakistan, in 2002.

A prolific writer, he had to his credit a large number of books and articles. He edited many research journals and periodicals on medicine, history and Islam. Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said also created two effective national forums: Hamdard Shura (for public opinion leaders) and Hamdard Naunehal Assembly (for children). He attended and read papers at numerous conferences all over the world and organized a number of international conferences for promotion of science in Pakistan in collaboration with national and international organizations including UNESCO and WHO. He also held important offices and memberships of dozens of national and international organizations related to education and healthcare, the fields to which his contributions are globally acknowledged.

A man of Herculean intellect and organizational capabilities, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said will be remembered most for creating Hamdard University, which he envisioned to become one of the top institutions of higher education and learning in Pakistan.

SHAHEED HAKIM MOHAMMED SAID Founder Chancellor

MESSAGE BY THE CHANCELLORHAMDARD UNIVERSITY

Mrs. Sadia RashidChancellor Hamdard University

& PresidentHamdard Foundation Pakistan

Dear Student – present or prospective –

As you go through this Prospectus, you are probably trying to decide for which

course you should enroll, or which faculty – perhaps even which university! Only

you and your guardians can make that choice. But before you do, weigh the facts –

the pros and cons, the reasons as well as the inclinations – carefully. Because on

your decision may rest the future course of your life.

Of one thing, however, you can be sure: You are among the lucky few of this world.

Millions never see the inside of a primary school, let alone finish high school, and be

fortunate enough to reach the level of higher education.

Never forget that important fact, or take education for granted, or – worse still –

moan and groan about it, or waste this wonderful opportunity to expand your mind

and enrich your life. Also remember the goals envisioned for you by this University’s

Founder Chancellor, Hakim Mohammed Said. He believed in a healthy mind in a

healthy body, hence all the facilities for sports and other co-curricular activities. In

addition to facts, he believed education should teach values, and mould character.

A truly learned person learns not only to serve oneself, but also humanity.

Hamdard University tries its best to make sure you have a healthy environment, and

the best facilities and faculty it can provide. But only you can make the best use of

these, and study to get an education, not only a degree.

May Allah always be your guide, and my prayers help you to true success!

IntroductionThough the emergence of Hamdard University on the educational scene of Pakistan is in a fledgling stage yet the evolution it has witnessed thus far sets the trend that others are trying to replicate. The University does not want to rest on its laurels and therefore strives hard for further growth and maturity in order to be at par with renowned universities in the region.

The Main Campus of Hamdard University at Madinat al-Hikmah is spread over a picturesque landscape and is located in the vicinity of Sindh Balochistan border 8 km from the commercial center of the metropolis, on the main highway leading to Bund Murad Khan. The location of the campus is of great historical and geographical significance. It lies on the main highway, which connects it to the Hub Chowki on the highway to Quetta, and is situated along the Hub River on the borders of Sindh and Baluchistan. The site, according to the renowned historians and archaeologists, is the place where Muhammad Bin Qasim, who made Sindh the gateway of Islam in the sub-continent, landed on his way to Daibal. The Campus is also closer to yet another celebrated site i.e. the shrine of Shah Noorani in Lasbela, Balochistan. Access to the university has been further strengthened for the people of the South West and North due to the completion of Northern By-pass which connects the Super Highway to Hamdard University on one hand and with Balochistan on the other.

The shades of green interlaced with flowers and fruits of varying hues and colors, coupled with a rich and varied fauna, sustained by the proximity of the Hub River, lend a distinct flavor to an ideal site suited to academic and research pursuits, away from the hectic life of the megapolis. Nature, at Hamdard, manifests itself explicitly. Within its boundaries, purpose built architectural marvels of different faculties and departments merge well into the planned landscape setting spread over 350 acres. It is in the context of this natural setting and historical site that Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said envisioned and established Hamdard University - now one of the biggest seats of higher learning in the private sector.

An area of about 350 acres was earmarked for the main campus. In addition to this process of institutional multiplication, which is continuously going on, the growth of the University, in terms of the extension of its services to public, has shown an upswing since 1996, when the first city campus of the University was established at Adamjee Nagar. Afterwards another campus at PECHS was opened. The city campuses offer day and evening programs in addition to the weekend programs.

The history of the academic programs, offered during the period by the constituent institutions, presents a remarkable picture of sustained growth.

The city campuses are now being shifted to a new premises downtown, which the university has recently acquired on

However, as of Fall 2015 the classes of the three institutes has take off in a big way. A cafeteria is located on the fifth floor of the building. The University, starting its journey with a couple of programs in 1992, is now offering almost 51 programs ranging from bachelor to doctoral level studies, in education and social sciences, Law, eastern medicine, health sciences, pharmacy, management, engineering and technology. The University ensures that the faculty and staff members are employed on the principle of merit to give the University a cutting edge in human resource development and mobilization.

Since its inception in 1994, Twenty one Convocation have been held, a total of 25,438 students have graduated in various disciplines. The total number of students being enrolled in different programs at Hamdard University is on a constant rise. The 25 years of Hamdard University are also marked with financial stability and continuous growth. The number of teaching and non-teaching employees, working in different institutes and departments of the University, is an indicator of this amplification.

The development process of the University is thus going on at all levels with unstoppable vigor. The University has already acquired the status of a large-sized organization and is committed to maintain its enviable record in the years ahead. Under a developmental strategy, the University will consolidate its programs and in the coming decades of the 21st century will deliver:
