and asked the staff to call the police after she saw a man get out of the vehicle and start looking through the windows of nearby cars. When the resident left the club, she heard a window smash and saw a man reach inside a vehicle and remove a purse. Murray recorded the suspect’s licence plate and later that evening police made an arrest and recovered a quantity of stolen property. Jennifer Hartman received an award for de- voting countless hours to serving as a Neigh- bourhood Watch block captain. Police also recognized Sharon McGregor for passionately speaking during their impaired driving campaigns about the death of her 17- year-old son Matthew, who was killed in 2010 in an impaired driving accident. Other heroes singled out during the evening included constables David Ellsworth and Ken MacDonald and nurse Coleen Williams. In the late evening hours of Nov. 21, Ells- worth and MacDonald were called after a dis- traught 63-year-old man fled Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. The nurse followed the man and provided constant updates regarding his location. Ellsworth and MacDonald caught up to the man at the foot of Allan Street as he waded into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario. After attempts to talk the man out of the lake failed, Ellsworth entered the chest-high water as MacDonald monitored closely. Ellsworth re- strained the man and brought him ashore. “The officers and Ms. Williams all played very distinct roles in the successful outcome of this incident,” said Cross. “Their intercedence resulted in the saving of a man seemingly intent on ending his life.” The life-saving actions of sergeants Brian Lowe and Barry Hughes and constables Kevin Alexander, Mark Pidberezny, Matt Proulx and Mike Tidball were also recognized. On April 22, 2012, shortly after 8:30 p.m., po- lice were called to the train trestle overtop Cross Avenue where a man was threatening to jump. Constables Pidberezny, Proulx and Sergeant Lowe got to the scene and began speaking with the man. The officers were able to keep the man talk- ing until a team of trained negotiators (Hughes, Alexander and Tidball) arrived. These officers took over communications with the man and eventually convinced him to accompany them off the bridge. “All the officers are commended for their teamwork and combined communication skills that made for a successful outcome,” said Cross. “Switching was easy. So was saving $485 on insurance.” – Mario & Michelle R. Annual savings from an actual customer who switched to BrokerLink. Your savings experience may differ.
