THANK YOU TRINITY Thank you! My copy of the history book just arrived. I'm most appreciative! We are settling into our new church, St. Peter Lutheran Church, 400 Sparks St., Ottawa. My wife, Elina, is the lead pastor and I am, in the parlance used now, the honorary assistant pastor. I have weekly opportunity to be involved in worship, but focusing on visitation. It's quite a change from the four small rural congregations we were last working to unite. Thank you all at Trinity! We wish you God's rich blessings on your ministry! Rev. Edward Bastian, Jr. (Son of Congregation)

To All My Friends/Family at TRINITY Thank you so much for the complimentary 100th Anniversary History Book. What a joy to read, learn and reminisce about the family of believers that make up Trinity. The entire Anniversary Committee are to be commended. Thanks, also, for the wonderful homecoming celebration on Nov. 11th & 12th. It was so good to be with so many friends. Trinity will always have a special place in my heart. With love & hugs, Pastor Rick Nelson

GET OUT! It looks and feels like summer weather is here. Yes, I know, we had a teaser in February with a warm spell and then snow in April. But, really, I think the nicer weather has finally arrived. And with that I say, GET OUT! Get outside! Get moving! Get going! We seem to fall complacent to activities that keep us sedentary and still, but being active is one of the best things we can do for our bodies, not to mention our emotional and spiritual growth. I’ve recently started listening to the Podcast, Pray as you go. It’s a daily podcast that guides you through scripture, a hymn and some time for prayer as you go about your daily routine. You can check it out on their website: www.pray-as-you-go.org/home What I love about it is right in its title. As you go…it’s

a devotional that you take with you. Since it is under fifteen minutes in length, I can listen on the way to the gym or as I eat my breakfast or as I sit on the porch sipping

coffee. It has been a great addition to my morning routine that has replaced social media time or random games on my phone. As you go on your way, what is your devotional routine? Coffee and scripture? Stretching and praying? A tried and true devotional at breakfast or dinner with your spouse or your family? As busy as our days can be, it is important to take the time each day to bring time and space into our day for some scripture, reflection and prayer. Another piece I hope you all find time for this summer is getting out there and moving. Maybe you hit the gym to meet up with friends, or hit the trails with a four-legged companion, or walk or ride with family at the end of the day as you re-connect. Looking at the summer events coming up at Trinity, there are opportunities for folks of all ages to be active. The youth and adults heading to Houston will be walking like champs, not to mention dancing and engaging in service projects. The VBS participants will be moving outside with games and inside with songs and dancing. Music Camp participants will be

actively moving as they learn a musical for worship as well as splashing in the pool in the afternoons. Cooking Camp participants will learn cooking skills and how to fuel their bodies (which is important when it comes to active bodies) in healthy and home-made ways. In August, the youth will bike to the Jigger Shop and have the opportunity to play softball. Adults are welcome to join in the softball adventures in July. Also, returning for adults is the Tour de Snitz! It’s a bike hike from Cornwall to Lebanon where we will refuel at Snitz Creek Brewery, enough for our ride back to our cars. In August, we’ll bike again from Cornwall, but this time in the opposite direction for a different view and we’ll meet up at the Blue Bird Inn for some post-ride refreshment and nourishment. The crew that biked in the past was interested in other outings, so maybe while we ride we can figure out a few fall options. Whatever you do this summer and wherever you go, God is with you. Look for God’s presence in the places you go, the experiences you have, and the people you meet. Don’t be surprised if you are the presence of God for others in some of these experiences. “Now get out and get moving”, she said lovingly. Peace, Pastor Jen

Picnic Baskets Conrad Weiser Food Pantry

Our Conrad Weiser Food Pantry always runs low during the summer months. So, we are looking for individuals willing to sponsor special “Picnic Baskets” for the August distribution. The cost of each basket will be $50. They are presently serving over 140 families. The baskets will have some special summer time treats in them, along with all of the normal staples the families enjoy. This will help to allow the shelves of the pantry to be restocked for the fall. Please, remember the pantry over the summer and pray for the families that we serve. - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Yes, I/we would like to sponsor a picnic basket.

Hello Awesome People of Trinity! I cannot believe that my time here is coming to a close. This year has really flown by! Thank you all so much for the support and kindness you have shown me this past year. This has been a wonderful year of growth and learning. I feel very blessed

that Trinity was the place I got to spend my internship year. Trinity does a wonderful job of supporting interns, and I know the next vicar will be just as blessed as I have been.

Two of my favorite experiences here have been 5th Quarter and the confirmation service. It was so cool to see 400 youth come out to eat, dance, and have a good time in a safe space after a football game. It was also great to see all the adults that come out to ensure that it is a safe and fun time for these youth. I have loved getting to see how Trinity works in the greater community. Trinity is a wonderful example of how to do ministry within and outside of the church walls.

The confirmation service was a beautiful experience. I loved getting to see the family (church family included) surround the confirmand with their love and support as Pastor Bill and Pastor Jen blessed them. It was wonderful to hear the families talk about what makes their youth special and to hear the Bible verses that resound with the youth. I believe that this kind of support and love is why so many of Trinity’s college students come back to Trinity when they are home on break.

I have so enjoyed our many conversations at Breakfast

Bible Study, in my Sunday School class, in Fundocy, in the girls’ small group,

and around the tables at The WELL. I have learned so much by being here, and I believe I have become more confident in my ability to be a pastoral leader through your feedback. A special thank you to my internship committee. You were wonderful and incredibly helpful. And, as I have promised several of you, I will let Pastor Bill and Pastor Jen know where I land for

my first call. Thank you for all of the support and love you have shown me. Peace and love, Vicar Kayla

All Saints Scholarship Fund

We are continuing the All Saints Scholarship Fund at Trinity for members who graduate from high school and plan to further their education at a college or trade school. The amount of the gift will depend upon the amount of money we are able to raise. We have been collecting throughout the year for this fund, and we pray it will continue to encourage our youth to feel supported and nurtured by the people of this place.

Simply write a check to Trinity and place it in an envelope marked “All Saints Scholarship Fund.” If you would like to honor someone with your gift, write a note about that person and place it in the envelope as well. Our goal is to encourage our youth to pay it forward as we remember the saints of the past and plant seeds in the saints of the future!

Have you updated your will and remembered the ministry

of Christ at Trinity? + + + + + +

Give a gift that celebrates your life and commitment to Christ!

MAP - Missing A Person

MAP is an incredible ministry at Trinity. It is intended for anyone who has lost a spouse or another significant person in their life. We come together with missing pieces to see if we can find wholeness together. We will go

out to lunch this summer and here is the schedule:

June – Ozgoods, Robesonia July - Country Fare, Myerstown

August – Calabria’s, Wernersville

The cost of lunch is your own. We will take time for fellowship. Please RSVP on the kiosk or call the church office to make your reservation. We continue to bring healing and find wholeness…as we piece it all together….together!

Save the Date 2018 Jack Frost Parade

Nov. 4th at 3:00pm We will have a Mummers band or two, as well as bag-pipers. If you are part of a group, club or organization, talk to them now about participating in our parade.

The parade route will be the same as last year, west on Route 422, south on Church Street, east on Ruth St. and finishing at Trinity. We will stage the parade at the Conrad Weiser Middle School and High School. We need a lot of Trinity volunteers to help with the parade, so watch for more details. Collecting Aluminum Cans

Ryan Noyes is collecting and recycling aluminum cans to benefit the IM ABLE Foundation. The mission of the IM ABLE Foundation (www.imablefoundation.org) is to remove obstacles that prevent individuals with disabilities

from being physically active through adaptive fitness equipment grants, inclusive fitness classes and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. All money raised from recycling the cans will go directly to the foundation. Please drop off your empty cans (crushed, if possible) in the marked bin outside the shed in the main parking lot near the playground.

The Social Ministry Board wants to help us all live out the last line of our mission statement. So, as often as possible, we will be lifting up service opportunities within the church and outside the church in this section of the newsletter. Please serve where you feel called and help us

to live out the love of Jesus Christ. • Sign up to help with funeral meals. • Help with the Robesonia Fair stand. • Make cookies for the vicar reception. • Volunteer to help with VBS. • Help with shelter meals at Opportunity House every

other month, cook or bake and/or help serve the meal. • Be a volunteer driver for Western Berks Shepherding. • Volunteer to help with worship as a screen assistant, lay

assistant and usher. We need your help!!! • Volunteer to help weed flower beds at Trinity. • Donate items to Operation Christmas Child. • Talk to Darin about sharing your musical talent at

special music times in worship over the summer. • Help clean the vicarage before our new vicar arrives.

Funeral Meals at Trinity One of the greatest blessings for families who have lost loved ones is Trinity’s gift of a funeral meal after services. Many of you are already contributors to these meals. (We ask for desserts, apple sauce, frozen vegetables and other side dishes.) Many of you help serve or clean up afterwards. We can’t thank you enough for being part of this gift to our members. After almost every funeral, the family sends a special note of gratitude and acknowledgement of how wonderful the funeral meal ministry is. If you did not sign up to help with funeral meals on your 2018 Time & Abilities form, it is not too late to volunteer. Please call the church office and add your name to our lists. We are always looking for extra helpers and hands. Know that this is a way to serve that is so very appreciated by all. Do you know about Trinity’s columbarium? There are niches available for purchase. Have you prepared a statement of guidance for your family in

the event of your death? Please talk to a pastor or the office staff if you would like assistance in these important future plans.

Flowers for the

Outside Beds Thank you to our sponsors for the flower beds

this year. These members gave a gift to the Glory of God:

Diane Gramling Chrys & Gary Heck Bill & Nancy Ludwig Pam & Dominic Parenti Claude & Loretta Schneck Jeff & Pam Smith John & Pat Stoltzfus

And, thank you to Norb & Linda Schneider for doing the planting and for heading up the summer workforce to maintain these beds.

Thrivent Members Every Thrivent member is entitled to two $250 action team grants. We need to leverage these dollars to help facilitate ongoing programs of outreach at the church, like 5th Quarter, Family Promise, VBS, God’s Work, Our Hands, etc. For all of these outreach programs that touch others’ lives, we can apply for Thrivent action team grants which will help to underwrite some of the costs. So, if you are a Thrivent member and would be willing to apply for an action team grant, please speak with Pastor Bill. We have Vacation Bible School and other outreach programs for which we need to get some aid. Thanks for helping to leverage this money to help others in need.

Attention Youth in 5th Grade & Older

Women’s Ministry presents Trinity’s first ever COOKING CAMP! During the week of June 25th through June 29th from 9am through noon, we will offer cooking classes to youth who have finished grade 5 and up. Come join us for a week of cooking, baking, (eating, of course!) and learning basic cooking techniques. We are excited to share some of our favorite recipes and teach you some of the ‘tricks’ that we’ve learned through the years. There is a $20 registration fee to help cover the cost of supplies. Look for brochures on the kiosks in the narthex.

Trinity Afterschool Program Trinity will be partnering with Olivet Boys and Girls Club to offer an afterschool program at Trinity, every day after school. Olivet will run the program, but we will be looking for Trinity volunteers to help with the children in grades K-8. Olivet will collect a yearly fee to help pay for the staff who will run the program. This will help to meet a true need within our community, providing affordable after-school care. The after-school hours are the worst times for children to be left alone. Those hours have proven to be the times when children get into the most trouble. So, we are pleased to be able to work with Olivet, making a difference in the lives of families and youth in our community. Watch for more information about this program that will be forthcoming. Meet Vicar Dan Tate I am a candidate for ministry in the ELCA, and part of the Upstate New York Synod. I originally hail from Olean, New York, and have also lived in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I recently graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary, and am an affiliate of United Lutheran Seminary. Hobbies and interests include: meeting people, reading, writing, music, movies, podcasts, walks, working out, philosophy and theology, preaching, evangelism and outreach, travel, coffee shops, science, museums, friends and family, and more. I am excited to begin interning at Trinity Lutheran Church. I cannot wait to see the things God will do, the people I will meet, and the things I will learn and experience. I look forward to seeing every one of you in August!

God’s Work - Our Hands Sunday, Sept. 9th

Once again, Trinity will wear bright t-shirts and go out to serve in Christ’s name, making a difference in our community and letting God’s light shine! This will happen on September 9th. Worship will still take place at 8:00 and 9:30am, but we will do a blessing and send off at 8:00am. Then, those who are working may depart. Those who choose not to serve in that manner will stay in worship.

Those participating will either go out to different places, like Blue Marsh or Old Dry Road Farm or the Robesonia Pool, or stay here and do work like making picnic tables, making health kits, or making soup for City Light Ministries.

We will have normal worship at 8:00am and 9:30am for those who do not wish to serve in this manner, or because of health reasons, cannot serve. We will have an offering that does not fit into the plate the following week, showing all the ways Trinity members gave of their time and talents.

We are looking for service projects, so if you have work to be done, please let us know. If

you have seen a project within our communities that could use some paint, or work, or clean-up, share it with us. We will have

something for everyone, old and young, all being Christ’s hands together. We will have special t-shirts for the day to share our witness and service in Christ’s name. Watch for sign-up sheets in the narthex and get ready to be God’s hands at work!

Robesonia Street Fair The Evangelism Board is trying to reach out to the people of our community by having a greater witness at the Robesonia Street Fair on June 22nd and 23rd. We hope to have three booth spaces. One space will be the Jack Frost Parade balloon, two will be inexpensive carnival games, ping pong ball toss, and our putting green. We want to make people aware of all the things we do here at Trinity to serve the community. We will have some flyers available for people to talk about some of our upcoming events. We need cash to purchase prizes for the games and we need people to help us operate our stands, probably at least 4-8 people per shift. So, please sign up below to help us get the message out about this place we love!
