The Philippines, a global leader in organic coconut production, is Cirandas primary

source. There, approximately 380 small- scale farmers each with an average of 20 t

22 acres grow and harvest this tree of life using sustainable, organic farming

methods. Each farmer cultivates up to 60 coconut trees per acre, with each tree

producing up to 200 coconuts per year. Collectively, organic coconut production fromour sources could yield about 150,000 metric tons of organic coconuts. All participatin

farmers are certified organic by QAI, Kosher, and Non-GMO.

To maintain ecological balance, farmers often intercrop low-growing legumes, banana

mangos or other small fruit trees with the 50-foot coconut palms or plant grassland

for cattle grazing. Discarded coconut husks are either returned directly as compost to

the palm tress or used to fuel the processing plant, then composted ash is returned to

the land as a source of fertilizer.

Our Fair Trade practices guarantee coconut farmers a premium price for their product

and provide them with access to quality healthcare and higher education assistancefor their children. Strong Fair Trade farm incomes are helping to build a robust and

equitable agricultural economy in the region.

Harvested continuously throughout the year, up to 40 coconuts per tree are production

ready every 45 to 50 days. Farmers hand-select and cut each mature coconut with a

long-handled knife, de-husk each coconut to expose its smooth outer shell and then

quickly transport the harvested nuts to a nearby production facility.

At the production facility, the coconuts outer hard brown shell is machine-cracked

and the inner brown skin is peeled, the coconut water is drained and collected, and

    the white coconut meat is retrieved. To produce E X T R A V I R G I N C O C O N U T O I L

    ( E V C O ) , the meat is sanitized, shredded, dried and then expeller-pressed to extract

the oil. The oil is then filtered and packaged without added preservatives.

    R B D C O C O N U T O I L begins by thoroughly drying the open coconut halves and

coconut parings to produce dried copra, which is then scooped out of the shells and

collected. Copra is loaded into expeller presses to extract the oil. To achieve proper

color and neutral flavor, oil is steamed and filtered multiple times before packaging.

    To produce C O C O N U T M I L K and C O C O N U T C R E A M , first-run processing

de-husking, de-shelling/peeling, draining, sanitizing, shredding and pressing the fresh

coconut meat yields coconut cream with a fat content of 28% or more. To

standardize coconut milk, water or coconut water is added to the first press coconut

milk to manufacture a milk with a fat content of approximately 18%. Fat content ma

be adjusted by adding or subtracting coconut oil.

    C O C O N U T F L O U R is produced from the meat of organic coconuts after it has been

pressed to produce organic coconut oil. Once oil has been extracted, the remaining

press cake is dried and ground into coconut flour, inspected and packaged.

    D E S I C C A T E D C O C O N U T is produced from sanitized, white coconut meat that is

dried and shredded to desired fineness fine, medium and chip (large).
