Saskatchewan Residents can now rake in a little more cash by recycling milk containers at SARCAN centres.
Milk containers were added to the provincial recycling program on
April 1st so they can now be returned to any SARCAN depot for a
refund of the deposit paid at the point of purchase.
SARCAN will accept beverage containers for milk, buttermilk, cream,
flued coffee creams, lactose-free milk products and drinkable yogurt.
SARCAN will only accept milk containers with best before dates after
April 1st, 2017.
“Another line of milk containers will increase the recycling rates of that
product in the province of Saskatchewan,” said Saskatchewan Minister
of the Environment, Scott Moe.
“It gives everyone the opportunity, rural and urban, to return their milk
containers, along with other containers, to the SARCAN depot.”
The change comes along with an increase for the returnable deposit for
certain items - the first change to deposit amounts since 1992.
For example, the deposit for aluminum, tin and plastic containers one
litre or greater will increase from 20 cents to 25 cents.
Residents still have the option to place their containers in their curbside
recycling bins, but they will not receive a refund on the deposit paid at
the point of purchase.

Hepatitis Awareness Month – hepatitis means
inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis is most often
cause by one of the several viruses Hepatitis A,
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Unlike Hepatitis A ,
which does not cause a long-term infection,
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis B can become chronic,
life-long infections. Chronic hepatitis can cause
serious liver problems, including liver damage,
cirrhosis, and even liver cancer. People with
chronic Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C have the
greatest risk of liver cancer. In fact, more than 60
percent of liver cancer cases are associated with
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
Mental Health Week, May 1st to 7th - This year
during CMHA Mental Health Week, Canadians are
speaking up: we’ve been in line for mental health
care for way too long. We can’t wait anymore. We
are literally sick of waiting. But we’re not only
waiting for mental health care. To be truly mentally
well, Canadians also need psychotherapy,
counselling and community-based mental health
services and programs; we need acknowledgement
and respect; and we need adequate housing. This
CMHA Mental Health Week, May 1-7, Canadians
are writing their MPs, speaking out on social
media, and donating our time and money, all in the
name of getting loud for mental health.
Canada Health Day, May 12 - Canada Health
Day has been sponsored by the Canadian
Healthcare Association and the Canadian Public
Health Association for over 30 years. The day is
meant to highlight the importance of public health
in the well-being of all Canadians.
It is also an opportunity to ask ourselves what we
consider health to be. Is health about regular visits
to your family physician and eating healthy? Sure
it is, but it’s also much more than that. Health starts
long before we get ill. Health starts where we live,
learn, work and play.
Brain Tumour Awareness - There are over 120
different types of brain tumours (both malignant
and non-malignant) you make it possible for us to
provide specialized programs to support those
affected and critical research to find the cause of
and a cure for the disease.
Cystic Fibrosis Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most
common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian
children and young adults. At present, there is no
cure. CF causes various effects on the body, but
mainly affects the digestive system and lungs. The
degree of CF severity differs from person to
person, however, the persistence and ongoing
infection in the lungs, with destruction of lungs and
loss of lung function, will eventually lead to death
in the majority of people with CF. Typical
complications caused by cystic fibrosis are:
Difficulty digesting fats and proteins Malnutrition
and vitamin deficiencies because of inability to
absorb nutrients Progressive lung damage from
chronic infections and aberrant inflammation CF
related diabetes Sinus infections It is estimated that
one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.
More than 4,100 Canadian children, adolescents,
and adults with cystic fibrosis attend specialized
CF clinics - See more at: http://

World No Tobacco Day, May 31 - The theme for
World No Tobacco day Tobacco – a threat to
development Every year, on 31 May, WHO and
partners mark World No Tobacco Day (WNTD),
highlighting the health and additional risks
associated with tobacco use, and advocating for
effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2017 is
"Tobacco – a threat to development." About the
campaign-It will demonstrate the threats that the
tobacco industry poses to the sustainable
development of all countries, including the health
and economic well-being of their citizens. It will
propose measures that governments and the public
should take to promote health and development by
confronting the global tobacco crisis.
Health Related Awareness for the month of May is...
I used to believe that prayer changes things but now I know prayer changes us and we change things!
