“If you are planning for a

year, sow rice;

if you are planning for a

• Close collaboration between IEC TC57 WGs and the utility CIM user community – an Asset Health Focus Community set up for this purpose.

• 61968 – Part 4 Edition 2 Draft completed and to be submitted to IEC.– Three main areas of work: Assets, Measurements and

Analytics.– Many new concepts and models.– 18 messages, of which 15 are new and 3 are major revisions

from Ed 1.

• Strategically plan, on the basis of factors such as asset ageing rate, what assets need to be renewed or replaced, and when.

• Determine the maintenance schedule of assets on the basis of their condition.

• Determine loading limits for the assets on the basis of their condition and financial drivers.

Use Case – Analytical Evaluation of Asset Health

and Risk

Business case: Decide renewal priorities on network, optimise maintenance programs, optimise asset operation.

Illustrative Analytics

• Identify assets and available data from Asset Registry:– Get all HV transformers.

• Get necessary data using reference provided by Asset Registry:– Get nameplate data (data from WAMS).

– Get online temps, dissolved gas/moisture, etc. data for time window (from IED or SCADA historian).

– Get laboratory data for dissolved gas/moisture (from LIMS).

• Analytics for various business cases.1. Asset health indices and risks for maintenance triggers.

2. Fleet-level ranking of indices and risks for replacement planning.

3. Operational factors (aging, risk of bubble formation, etc.) to determine operational loading limits.

CIM-based Asset Registry

• Facilitate data integration for a variety of asset analytics.

• A central directory of assets.

– Containing asset classification information, such as manufacturer,

design, location, criticality.

– Pointers to operational data, condition monitoring data, laboratory test

data, work history, etc.

– CIM for common semantic model and standards-based integration.

• Analytics queries the Asset Registry for asset class of interest,

retrieves references, and retrieves data necessary for analytics.

Multi-source Data14

1. Ad Hoc Measurements:– The data is produced in a scheduled or on demand manner by ad hoc

procedures.

– Tests, surveys, and inspections fall in this category.

– These procedures could be performed at regular time intervals, which typically range from weeks to years, or on demand when the need arises.

2. Online Measurements– The data is produced in an ongoing manner from an online monitor.

– Such measurements can be periodic or event-driven.

– These measurements could be communicated in real time with strict time constraints.

3. Network Role Measurements– Similar to online measurements, but attached to the network role rather

than the asset.

• 61968-4 Edition 3 Scope Development in progress.– Asset work.– Asset investment planning.– Asset management activities other than health-related

(compliance, configuration management, etc.).– Real-time analytics (DER, operational impact, etc.)– Weather considerations.

• Weekly Asset Health Focus Community (AHFC) teleconference – please participate (email [email protected] to be included in the meeting invite).
