Art of building a comprehensive IP strategy & effective management of IP This session will focus on the importance of building a comprehensive IP strategy that is aligned with a company’s business goals. Building a successful strategy requires knowing the answers to some key questions: a. What makes patents valuable?. b. What role do patents play in achieving key business goals? c. What are the key strategic planning inquiries to make to build a successful IP strategy? d. What are the “new” issues (e.g., NPEs, Industry Standards, America Invents Act) in patent strategy? 11.45 a.m. Session 2 2. Obtaining valuable IP protection This session will be interactive, engaging the participants with exercises focused on identifying key concepts and inquiries to be made in obtaining valuable patents. An approach based on strategic planning and effective management is critical to obtaining valuable patents. 1.45 p.m. Session 3 3. Understanding claims from both sides of the patent infringement fence This session will highlight key factors that impact the breadth and scope of patent claims. Participants will learn about some of the common errors in patent application drafting and prosecution of patent applications, and learn how to avoid making the mistakes that detract from a patent’s value . 3.45 p.m. Session 4 4. Best practices of creating IP eco-system within an organization This session will provide practical examples for implementing an IP strategy. Topics will include: a. How world class organizations create IP eco-systems and invest wisely b. Technology startups / Individuals Best practices to build from scratch ( examples of how companies managed and won court cases against large firms, like the ‘Intermittent Wiper – Case against Ford (Movie Flash of genius) c. Driving innovation through a patent system within an organization d.
