ABC News Senior Justice Correspondent Pierre Tomas covers lawenforcement and homeland security issues He joined ABC News inNovember 2000 and reports for World News with Diane Sawyer,

Good Morning A merica, Nightline, and other ABC News programsMr Tomas was a key member of the ABC News team covering the terroristaacks of September 11, and he continues to report on their aermath Tenetworks coverage of the September 11 aacks was widely recognized forits excellence, winning the Peabody Award, the Alfred I duPont-ColumbiaUniversity Award, and an Emmy Award

Mr Tomas broke the story of the early stages of the largest investigation in US history, foretelling the JusticeDepartments strategy of rounding up large numbers of suspects to prevent future aacks He also broke stories ona number of law enforcement alerts and on the Bush Administration anti-terrorism bill that gained Congressionalapproval He was among the rst to report the discovery of an anthrax-laden leer sent to Senator Patrick Leahy

Mr Tomas was also part of a World News onight with Peter Jennings broadcast that won the Edward RMurrow Award for best newscast in 2005

A former Washington Postreporter, Mr Tomas has also covered the Oklahoma City bombing and the FBIs roleat Ruby Ridge As Justice Department correspondent for CNN, he covered terrorism, cyber-crime, the hunt forOsama bin Laden, the FBIs Most Wanted list and the Justice Departments involvement in the Elian Gonzalez case

In Memoriam

July 2010 saw the passing of a champion of the Inspector General

community, who dedicated himself to the furtherance of thecommunitys mission, values, and goals Mr Laurence (Larry) AFroehlich served the Federal Government with distinction for over33 years, all of which were spent working for Oces of InspectorGeneral (OIG) His breadth of experience and analy tical skill as

a lawyer made him a well-recognized expert and advocate who provided advice and assistancethroughout the Inspector General legal community

Mr Froehlich began his career as an aorney in the newly formed OIG at the Department of

Health, Education, and Welfare Tereaer, he served as the Chief Counsel to the InspectorGeneral for the Department of Agriculture; the General Counsel to the Inspector General at theFederal Deposit Insurance Corporation; and the Assistant Inspector General for Legal Servicesat the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System

Mr Froehlich was a founding member and past chairman of the Council of Counsels to theInspector General, an organization of aorneys who serve the Federal Governments InspectorsGeneral Mr Froehlich was deeply commied to the organizations goals, including the opendiscussion and understanding of common legal issues, the promotion of professionalism and

integrity, and the development and training of aorneys and other professionalsMost notably, Mr Froehlichs dedication to supporting and mentoring junior OIG aorneys lea lasting legacy In particular, he established the Inspector General summer legal intern program,which teaches law student interns the skills and knowledge they need for continued success inOIG legal work

Mr Froehlichs contributions were extensive and their impact, immeasurable He led withpatience and by example, demonstrating that legal expertise alone is not enoughtrue successdepends on professional and personal integrity His dedication to public service stands as an

exemplar to the Inspector General community
