CONDUCT RULES FOR STUDENTS - CIFNET

1. Should wear neat and proper uniform including shoes/belt/ID card.

2. Usage of mobile phones is strictly not allowed in the class rooms during 0900 hrs to

1730 hrs. However, a pigeon box with locking facility will be kept in the reception area

to keep the mobiles of day scholars. In case, if the Mobile phone is found in the class

room, it will be seized and the same will be returned only on completion of the

Semester.

3. Should maintain the personality development by doing decent hair cut and shave.

4. TAR book has to be maintained under the guidance of

i) Skipper- Mate/Bosun for VNC/BFSc(NS)

ii) Chief Engineer - Engine Driver Gr.I/ Engine Driver Gr. II for MFC

5. Elocution competition on the announced topic will be conducted on the previous day

of National Holidays.

6. Sports Competition will be conducted once in a month for each class in order to

inculcate the sports sprit.

7. STCW course will be arranged in consultation with DG Shipping approved Institution

for which the candidates who are having valid passport are informed to give the name

list in classwise to the training section.

8. The receipt for Mess bill payment will be provided to the hostellers by making bill book

with their own expenditure.

9. The trainees of VNC/MFC are eligible for 12 days regular leave per semester and 15

days medical leave on admission in the hospital by producing doctor’s certificate.

Beyond that, the students will not be allowed to appear Trade examination at any

cost.

CIFNET Trainees Hostel, HQ Kochi RULES, REGULATIONS AND CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TRAINEES

It shall be the responsibility of the trainees to

Read, become familiar with and adhere to this Code and any amendment there on Foster and maintain a vibrant academic, intellectual, cultural and social atmosphere which is

consistent with the objectives of the Institute. Report any violation of this Code to the functionaries under this Code.

Hostel Admission and General Rules

1. Hostel facility is extended to the students as per the availability, at the discretion of the Director.

2. The trainees of regular courses willing to avail of hostel facility have to furnish the Joining Report,

bio-data and Undertaking in prescribed form. The students are required to list out their belongings and

submit the list to the Warden at the time of admission to the hostel.

3. They have to necessarily remit the fees and various deposits stipulated for admission, at the time of

admission itself, without waiting for sanction/payment of stipend, if any, by CIFNET/Sponsoring

Department/Private Industry.

4. Allotment of rooms will be done by the Warden. The trainees shall strictly adhere to the same.

5. The trainees shall ensure that the furniture and fitting inside the rooms allotted to them are in proper

condition while occupying the rooms, any discrepancies observed shall be brought to the attention of

the Dy. Warden/Care taker. The trainees shall be responsible for any damages to the furniture and

fitting inside the rooms allotted to them.

6. The students should conduct themselves in a disciplined and dignified manner within the Institute/

Hostel campus. They shall strictly adhere with the discipline and the prescribed timings for various

activities.

7. The normal daily routine of the hostel is as follows.

a. Wake up time : 05.30 hrs b. Physical Training * : 06.00 – 07.00 hrs c. Breakfast : 07.45 – 08.30 hrs d. Lunch : 12.50 – 13.30 hrs e. Evening tea : 15.10 – 15.20 hrs f. Dinner : 19.30 – 20.25 hrs g. Study time : 20.30 – 22.30 hrs h. Light out : 22:30 hrs

*(Mandatory for all Hostel inmates - all batches of VNC/MFC/ BFSc)

8. When the trainees leave their rooms, they should switch off light, fan and should avoid wastage of electric power. The trainees are prohibited from using any electric appliances like electric cookers/ induction cookers/ iron box/ music system including Radio/ Transistor/ Record Player etc. Further Laptops/ Tablets are not allowed to be used in hostel, except for BFSc(NS) final year students.

9. All trainees have to ensure that their rooms are kept locked with lock and key, which they have to purchase-on share basis among the room mates. One spare key of the lock shall be remitted with the

Dy.warden. If the rooms are found open during class hours, a fine of Rs.50 shall be levied upon all the inmates of the room.

10. The trainees shall abstain from any act that causes or intends to cause psychological, emotional or physical stress and harm to any person.

11. Smoking cigarettes/bidi or Possessing, using, distributing or being under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or other controlled substance in the Institute Campus/ Hostel or at any property owned/managed by the Institute is strictly prohibited. If any violation is observed the same shall be dealt seriously and Disciplinary action shall be initiated as deemed fit including suspension/termination from hostel/course.

12. The Warden/ Deputy Warden will make regular checks in the hostels during study hours and also at random to check the discipline, welfare and well-being of the trainees and also to check damages caused, if any, to Government property.

13. Trainees should not involve in any conduct that causes unauthorized removal, destruction or malicious damage of Institute property or property under Institute’s custody or control

14. In case of any damages or disfiguring of Government property at the Institute/ hostel /furniture/equipments, the PTI cum Deputy Warden will report such matter to the Warden immediately whereupon, the damage will be assessed by the Warden, as the case may be and the fine will be levied immediately.

15. Trainees should not throw waste materials in the premises of Class rooms/hostel rooms/mess; they should deposit the same in the dust bins provided for the purpose. Trainees should keep the Institute Campus, including hostel premises clean always and while vacating the hostel, the rooms should be as clean as they were, at the time of allotment of rooms.

16. Any violation of these rules will attract fine for repair/replacement of the item(s) / damaged portion / cleaning, as the case may be. For this purpose, where the erring trainee (s) is/are not coming forward to admit the mistake/misdeed and if fine could not be levied individually, all the inmates in a room/hostel/course will be fined collectively to the extent of meeting the expenditure for repair/ replacement in respect of damages made in a room/ hostel / class room / common places like class rooms, practical halls, laboratories, toilets, corridors etc.

17. The Caution Deposit remitted by the trainees will be refunded only after verifying and assessing the loss/damages caused to Government property, if any, on completion of the training.

18. All cases of illness of trainees should be reported to Warden/Deputy Warden, who will give the necessary permission for consulting Doctor, and if necessary shall depute a trainee/staff for accompanying with the sick trainee. The concerned trainee has to bear the expenses related to consultation fee, cost of medicines, laboratory tests, if any and charges for inpatient treatment, if any. If any trainee is required to be hospitalized, the Warden/ Deputy Warden will intimate the matter to the parents concerned.

19. Guests and relatives of the trainees are not permitted to enter the hostel. They shall meet the Warden/Adl.Warden/ Dy.Warden and with their permission, can meet their wards in the visitor’s room of the Hostel.

Hostel Mess Rules 20. Trainees shall strictly adhere to the Mess timings. Those trainees who are late for breakfast/lunch / dinner/ tea etc. shall not make any complaints regarding the availability/quantity of food, unless their late coming/absence is with prior permission and genuine reasons, approved by the Warden/Adl Warden/Dy.Warden.

21. Dress code has to be strictly followed when entering the mess hall. Dress code for Boys:

a) On all working days: Formal uniform full pant with shirts for breakfast and lunch and normal full pant/shorts with shirt/tee shirt for dinner

b) On Holidays: Normal full pant/shorts with shirt/tee shirt for breakfast, lunch and dinner

22. Students are not permitted to use the Mobile Phone inside the Mess Hall

23. The trainees shall not create any disturbance in the dining hall and they are prohibited from entering the kitchen, unless he/she is a member of the mess committee.

24. Food items including tea shall be taken in the Mess hall and shall not be taken to any other area or their rooms.

25. Outside food is not allowed in the Hostel. Students are not allowed to order/bring parcel food from outside. Defaulters will be fined Rs.100 per individual per occasion, which will be remitted to the mess account.

26. Mess bill reduction can be claimed by the trainees only if their absence is 5 days or more and with prior sanction/permission from the Warden/ Deputy Warden.

27. The mess shall be run by the trainees themselves under the supervision of the Warden/ Deputy Warden. The Mess committee consisting of Mess Secretary and Joint Secretary shall be selected among the trainees on rotation basis, among the various batches, by the Warden/Dy.Warden. The regular running of the mess; including procurement of provision, verification of the bills in respect of such procurements is to be done by the Mess committee, along with the help of fellow trainees, by turn. They may seek the advice and guidance of the Warden/ Deputy Warden, wherever necessary.

28. The collection of mess fees/dues and advancing funds towards the running of the mess, out of the deposit amount, will be done by Warden/ Deputy Warden.

29. The mess bill of each month has to be paid by all the students within 20th of next month, with a grace period of 5 days, during which no fine shall be applicable. Beyond this grace period, a fine of Rs.5/- per day shall be applicable over and above the Mess bill/dues. However at all cases the Mess dues/bill has to be cleared within the last day of month. If the dues are not paid even after the completion of the month, such trainees will not be allowed to take food from the mess, till such are cleared.

Study time, Evening Outing time, Monthly Leave, etc

30. On all days, the trainees are expected to be in their allotted rooms by 20:20 hrs. They are to remain in their allotted rooms during the study hours between 20:30 hrs and 22:30 hrs. The trainees are not permitted to come out their room during the study hours and also the room should be kept open during the study hours. No trainee shall use the Mobile Phone during the study hours.

31. The hostel inmates are permitted to go outside the campus in between 17:00 hrs to 19:00 hrs on all working days. Trainees may also utilise the facility for playing games/gym inside the campus between 17:00 hrs and 19:00hrs on all working days. However, all trainees of the particular class/batch have to take part in the sports/games, conducted as per the monthly programme.

32. On Saturdays and Sundays the trainees are permitted to go outside the hostel between 09:00 hrs to 12:00hrs and from 14:00 hrs to 19:00hrs. However, every month, one Saturday may be earmarked by the Dy.Warden as Swachchata Divas, on which the trainees shall involve in cleaning their rooms/ hostel premises, Trainees will be allowed to go out of the hostel premises on such days only after 1000 hrs.

33. No student shall remain outside the campus after the prescribed timings without prior written permission from the Warden/Adll. Warden/ Deputy Warden failing which the same will be viewed seriously.

34. Trainees are not permitted to go to their native place, on holidays, at their own wish and will. However, they are allowed a Holyday permission once in a month to visit their home, after obtaining such necessary permission from the Warden/ Adl Warden/Deputy Warden, who may grant the same, considering the merit of the request.

35. Every trainee shall maintain a leave register and take written permission in the register from the Warden/ Deputy Warden for availing holiday permission. They shall make entry in the leave register

maintained by the Dy.warden and obtain Gate pass, duly signed by Dy.warden and Adl Warden/Warden while leaving Hostel, on leave.

36. When the trainee go home availing holiday permission on week-end with due permission of Warden, they should not stay back at home and abstain from classes without getting their leave sanctioned. In such cases, their leave letter should be countersigned by parent/local guardian, as the case may be.

37. If any hostel inmate is found be violating any of the above rules, disciplinary action as deemed fit, including suspension/termination from hostel/course shall be initiated against such trainees, depending upon the extend of indiscipline.

Declaration by the Candidate

I hereby solemnly and sincerely affirm 1. that I shall obey strictly to all rules and regulations cited above. 2. that i realise that the breach of discipline and rules by me would entail summarily forfeiture of my

seat in the Hostel with/without any notice to me or my parents/ guardians. 3. I shall not involve any act of ragging within the premises. In case of any involvement, I shall be

liable for any action including termination from the course.

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF BFSc (NS)

FINAL SEMESTER PROJECT REPORT

The project work at undergraduate level is prescribed with a general aim of inculcating a

research attitude towards chosen field of work, to better understand the published works and to

acquire the skill of writing of project reports. One of the most important requisites in preparation of

the project report is consistency of format and adherence to the specific instructions. To maintain the

uniformity in the layout and physical appearance of the project work, the following standards are laid.

All the students should strictly follow the set standards and adhere to the instructions.

I. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1) The project selection will be based on synopsis presentation on the proposed

topic with the power point presentation within 10 slides.

2) The evaluation / assessment would be conducted as follows:

i) First 45 days - 20% (Progress of project maintained in project diary)

ii) Second 45 days - 30% (Progress of project maintained in project diary)

iii) Third 45 days - 50% (Progress of project maintained in project diary + PowerPoint presentation) iv) Submission of final dissertation -100%

3) The length of the project report should preferably be restricted within 80 to100

pages.

4) Times New Roman font with 12 font size with line spacing 1.5 should be

maintained.

5) The project report should be prepared as per the format given below.

6) Presentation in Power point:

10 days prior to the submission of the project report, all the students

should present their project details in power point in front of the guide, faculty

and the examiner.

7) One copy of the project report should be submitted to the institute library.
