3 Way Interviews

Thank you to all families who attended the 3 way interviews last Monday. It is a really valuable day, with both teachers and parents/carers sharing important information to ensure we can best support your child. It also shows our students that learning is a partnership between school and home and we all care about them. With restrictions on the number of people we can have in spaces, it gives students an opportunity to show parents/carers their room and teach-er.

If you were unable to attend on the day, please contact the school or child’s teacher by email to make an alternate time this week.

Easter Raffle

Each year as part of our fundraising we run an Easter Raffle. We aim to have between 5-10 prizes so please make sure you pick up a block of chocolate, a share bag of chocolate bars, an Easter book, a box of Favourites, a bag of lollies or an Easter egg/rabbit when you are doing you’re shopping and drop it into the office. Tickets will go home this Friday, and there will be spare books available from the office. Thanks for your support

Reading

Reading each night makes a BIG difference in student learning. Not only does it support reading progress but also in-creases vocabulary and understanding of what ‘good’ writing looks like. This assists students when they write. When students read a range of both information and story books it increases their general knowledge.

This year we will be identifying students as they achieve milestones in home reading. The first w ill be 25 nights of reading. As each child reaches this milestone, we will celebrate, so if you haven’t yet established a home read-ing routine, let’s start now! Well done to Takara W in Grade 3M for achieving 25 nights of reading!

School Council

Due to not having enough numbers, our school council meeting has been rescheduled to this Thursday 4th March.

If you are interested in being a parent representative on school council, please see the office.

Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. All you need is an interest in the school.

SWPBS Update

This week our School Wide Positive Behaviour focus is around being respectful in All Spaces. We will revisit the expectations ‘I use school appropriate words’ and ‘I keep my hands and feet to myself’. We will hold discussions and role play scenarios within our classrooms around these expectations.

SWPBS Exciting News!!!

Our first piece of the Eagle for 2021 has gone up! This means one class has earnt 400 gotchas already this year.

It will be great seeing some more pieces go up in the next few weeks as other classes reach the same goal.

Students will be choosing what their whole school reward will be this week.

Maths at Home (M.A.H.) Challenge 4

Congratulations to the students who participated in last week’s M.A.H. Challenge. The overall winner was Jason R, well done! Jason is pictured with some of the exciting prizes you can win doing the Maths at home challenge.

Many thanks to the parents /carers who supported their child(ren) with this task at home. We hope you had some fun being involved in your child’s learning.

Poppy During remote learning Poppy came to have a tour of our school to have a look around the yard and buildings. Last Friday we had another wonderful visit from Poppy, she visited 3 classrooms to spend some time getting used to the enrivonment and meeting students. She will be back again this Friday for some more transition time.

From the Classroom:

PREP: Superstar readers Eli, Layci, Hudson and Annabelle showing off their

prizes from their awesome job reading on Thursday. They were able to spot our new focus word ‘the’ in their readers and showed both Tayla and Shaylee the great progress they have made with their letter recognition in their alphabet books.

In prep this week we are focusing on the word 'my'. In mathematics we will be reviewing the days of the week and exploring patterns.

1/2 update:

Last week the Grade 1/2 started reading and writing narrative stories. The students have loved making predictions and wonderings about the different stories we have been reading. In maths we have started looking at numbers line and plotting where different numbers would go. The Grade 1/2 students love a challenge. On Friday afternoons students who earnt 10 gotchas during the week got to spend them on a reward of their choice. IPad time was popular this week!!

Year 3/4 News:

Students in the 3/4 team reached the completion of their persuasive reading and writing unit. Students have been able to show growth since starting in week two, congratulations your hard work has paid off. Students will begin their narrative/ story unit this week, looking at the structure (introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution).

In our Numeracy sessions we have been further establishing our place value capabilities in particular we have been learning how to find ten more, ten less and rename 3-to-4-digit numbers.

A reminder to all students they need to be reading each night, writing it in their reading diary and returning each day.

The Grade 3/4 recorder group has been working hard the last few weeks. The students are learning to coordinate their fingers on the recorder, play quietly and tunefully and keep in time.

The Grade 5/6 circus groups are also working hard. Students in group 1 are developing their hand/eye coordination skills in Poi, Juggling, Devil Sticks and Spinning Plates. Group 2 are improving their balance on Stilts, Rola Bola and Pedal Racers.

All groups are looking forward to the time when they are ready to share their hard work with others in the school community.

ART Room

In art this week we started a unit of work which focuses on the elements of art, the basic building blocks for creating an artwork. We have examined different types of line and how it can be used to create shapes and patterns and even create emotion especially when drawing facial features.

Grade 1/2 started drawing fun faces and added lengths of yarn to create wavy hair.

Grade 2/3 will be focusing on the use of line in landscapes and still life.

Grade 5/6 will be drawing different types of line to decorate bottle shapes and finish these in water colour washes.

Grade prep will join me in the art room this week for their first art session. :)
