You may be wondering, “Hasn’t this always been our opportunity?” Hasn’t Red Hill always had opportunities to reach out to the community?” The answer, of course, is yes. However, while we have always worked hard at being a community of faith that strives to change lives through the power of the Holy Spirit, this year we want to step out boldly in faith in some specific ways in order to impact this community for Jesus Christ. For the past few months, the church and school staff, our leadership team (Board of Directors), Pastor Joel and myself, have been discussing a Strategic Ministry Plan that outlines the opportunities and challenges that we face as a church at this time in our history. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (Colossians 2.6-7)But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Dear Red Hill Family,The scripture verses above describe the life of discipleship. Particularly, the need to continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus for the purpose of serving Him with gratitude as well as to bear witness to others about Jesus’ transforming grace. As you have heard me say many times, this is our work as a church: to make disciples; apprentices of Jesus who are deepening their knowledge about, and love for, Jesus. This is what our mission and ministries are all about. A few weeks ago we studied the book of Esther and how God placed Esther in the right place at the right time for the survival of God’s people. With a few brief words, Mordecai (Esther’s cousin), both affirmed God’s sovereign plan and Esther’s potential participation in that plan:

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another

place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4.14)

I believe that we are in an “Esther moment” in the history of Red Hill. I believe that God has placed Red Hill in this community for “such a time as this.” I believe that Red Hill Lutheran Church and School has the opportunity to impact this community with the life-changing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a most profound way.

This Strategic Plan is posted on our website at www.redhillchurch.org. Copies will also be available at the Welcome Table in the narthex for the next few weeks. (If you would like a copy emailed to you, you can request it at [email protected]). Please read over the plan so you can get an understanding of some of the hopes and dreams for our church as we move into the future. Also, please pray about this Strategic Plan and for the direction of Red Hill Lutheran Church and School!

Pursuant to the Strategic Plan, this month I will host four Town hall meetings to discuss your thoughts, questions and concerns about the plan (See the related article in this newsletter). We will offer one Town hall meeting on a Sunday morning and one on a Wednesday evening (same content/format, different times). The first two Town hall meetings will be devoted to an overview of the plan, budgetary issues and questions from the participants; the second two meetings will look at specifics of the plan as well as related questions from the participants. Here, I will give just a brief outline of the ministry priorities within the plan, as well as the rationale related to these ministry initiatives (When you read the plan in its entirety, you will see the analysis upon which the ministry priorities were based). It is important to remember that in all of our ministries, we are guided by the purpose, mission, vision, core values and ministry targets of Red Hill Lutheran Church. At Red Hill, our:

Purpose: “Know Christ. Make Christ known.”

Mission Statement: Reach and serve our local community. Equip their hearts, minds, and souls; and Release them into the world to share God’s love.”

Vision Statement: “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ. One life at a time.”

Clearly, disciple-making, spiritual growth, and sharing God’s love with others in word and deed (mission), is at the heart of who we are and what we do. Consequently, beginning this year, we have set three basic ministry priorities in order to both be and make disciples of Jesus for His glory and the world’s blessing.

Priority #1 : Contemporary Worship Leader/Development of Contemporary Worship. The “front-door” of the church is worship. Red Hill has had, and continues to have, a strong, classical (traditional) worship experience. The reasons are many: the sanctuary design, budget support (full-time Worship coordinator/cantor, part-time Choir Director, part-time organist, two choir section-leaders and a refurbished organ). On the contemporary side, our resources have been less; a split-time worship leader (Isaiah), some budget support (paid drummer, various instruments for Isaiah and recording equipment, amps, etc.), and sound changes/updates. Additionally, at the present time the majority of our first-time guests attend this worship service.

Consequently, it is necessary to increase resources in this service and to continue our intentional plan of offering multi-styles of worship that are biblically faithful and theological consistent with who we are as Lutherans. The immediate action in this priority is to hire a leader of Contemporary Worship and develop this service of worship.

As of the writing of this article, we have had two auditions/interviews, with a third leader to be interviewed/auditioned the last week of June. We will keep you posted!

Priority #2: Director of Family Life. In order to offer a comprehensive family ministry outreach program with a three-fold foci: the church, the school and the external com-munity, I believe we need a full-time staff-level leader who will work with existing staff to provide this outreach. The challenges, pressures and struggles faced by families and individuals in our secular-dominant culture, are increasing and threatening family relationships, faith traditions and emotional health. For example, we must support and equip single people to begin building strong Christ-centered mar-riages; we must support and equip parents to raise godly children and deepen Christian character in families; and with the parents, we must train and engage our children of all ages to be faithful members of Red Hill and the Christian church as a whole. Since it is absolutely appropriate to consider Red Hill a “family,” this position would be concerned not only with traditional family life and enrichment, but also other is-sues related to age and life-stage needs and concerns (For example, support for those who’s spouse is suffering from Alzheimer’s or other issues). If Red Hill can position itself as a “champion” of the family, of all ages, I believe we would not only reach our local community for Jesus, we would likewise grow our congregation and potentially our school, thus deepening Christian discipleship in all ages and life-stages. The immediate action in this priority is to hire a full-time “Director of Family Life.”

Priority #2B: While technically this is a separate priority itself, the issues discussed below are so integral to all of our various ministries that we had a difficult time “rating” this! Anyway, we call this the “Big 3” Fund Raising. We must address three “capital improvements” to enhance our existing ministries (To do this, we will seek financing out of our budget, or raising funding outside of the budget, or a combination of both). In order of importance (my opinion), and with estimated costs, these “Big 3” are:

1. New Sound SystemOur present sound and video system is outdated and inadequate for our needs as a church and school. (We have too many worshipers who must find the exact “spot” in the sanctuary in order to hear!) While we have “tweaked” the present system, the consistent negative feedback about not hearing the speaker and worship leader is a deterrent to a posi-tive worship experience for both worship styles. Projected Cost $27,500.00. (This includes both the sound system and the video projection system/video screen)

Page 3: Church & School Newsletter - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/redhilllutheranchurch/documents/07 12... · Red Hill Lutheran Church & School N ... A few weeks ago we studied the

2. Upgrade/Zoning Compliance for Peter’s ParishPeter’s Parish must be refitted for institutional zoning use and safety for our kids. It has been ex-pressed to the leadership that having Peter’s Parish enhances the youth program and sense of place for our kids. Projected Cost: $50,000.00.

3. Digital Reader Board for front lawn area We have so many opportunities between our church, school and ethnic ministries that benefit our community. It goes without saying that our present sign just can’t list all of the on-going and changing programs/dates/times. Projected Cost: $30,000.00.

Priority #3: Children’s Choir/Performing Arts Director. In relationship to priorities 1 and 2, we would develop a children’s choir and performing arts ministry. This ministry would be offered to church families/children, surrounding community families/children and RHLS families/children. This ministry would teach children to sing and perform Christian oriented music and plays. While we will continue to be blessed by our school musical programs, having a children’s musical and arts option on the church side, will offer yet another opportunity reach out to families and connect our children to the total life of the congregation. The immediate action in this priority is to hire a part-time “Children’s Choir Director.” As you can see, these are pretty large goals and priorities. Especially in a difficult financial environment. However, our desire is that this programmatic/fiscal year (September 2012-August 2013) be an “investment in ministry year.” This means that, while we still will be prudent and fiscally responsible in our budgetary planning, I believe it is critical that we step out in faith and strive to make disciples of Jesus through these three ministry priorities. One final point; perhaps you have heard the term, “Missional Church.” This is a description of church ministry that has been popular the last decade or so. Essentially (and believe me, there are multiple definitions of what a “missional” church can be), a missional church defines itself as a “sending” church. Instead of an internal, self-focused idea of ministry (the church exists to “entertain” church members), missional churches desire to look outward (the church exists for the world). It is a shift from, “The church exists for me/my needs” to “The church exists to equip me so I can meet others needs.” Our hope for this Strategic Plan, and for all of the ministries at Red Hill Lutheran Church and School, is to equip missional disciples; disciples of all ages and life-stages, for the purpose of sending those disciples out into their respective “worlds” (our relationships, neighborhood, workplace, families, etc.) and in those places live as disciples of Jesus. I believe this is what Jesus commands us to do:

“…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28.18-20. Often referred to as “The Great Commission.”)

And…(A teacher of the law)…asked him (Jesus), “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one, 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12.28-31. Often referred to as “The Great Commandment.”)

A commitment to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment will build a great church! My prayer is that, what happened to the early church happens at Red Hill as well:

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. (Acts 2.42-43)

Can you imagine? What if Red Hill was known as a church where “everyone was filled with awe…?” We can be! As we follow Jesus, devoting ourselves to the apostles’ teaching (God’s Word), fellowship (studies, small groups) and to the breaking of bread and prayer (Sacraments), we will be a community filled with awe. That’s what all of the planning, meetings, budgeting, and visioning, all comes down to: following Jesus faithfully and consistently; being and making disciples of Jesus—one life at a time!

So, please pray about this Strategic Plan and continue to pray about God’s direction for Red Hill Lutheran Church and School. I look forward to talking with you at the town hall meetings, on Sunday mornings, or anytime you want to give me a call. I can’t say this enough: We need you! This is your church. You are loved and treasured by Jesus Christ. Who knows, perhaps God has placed you here at Red Hill “for such as time as this?”

Have blessed July and especially, a safe and happy 4th of July, as we celebrate the gift of our country and the freedom we share. See you in Church!Pastor Seth

Faith Milestones

Town hall MeetingsAs I mentioned in the lead article of this newsletter, we have developed a Strategic Plan for the future ministries of Red Hill. This plan is posted on our website, www.redhillchurch.org. Copies will also be available on Sunday morning at the Welcome Table in the narthex (back area of the sanctuary). If you would like a copy emailed to you, request it at [email protected]. As you will see in the Strategic Plan, there is an examination of some of our strengths, weakness and opportunities that we have as a church, as well as some of the threats that we face as a church in the world today. You are invited to discuss this plan and ask any questions you may have at four Town hall meetings this month. We will offer one meeting on a Sunday and one on a Wednesday (same format, different times). The first two series of Town hall meetings will be devoted to an overview of the plan, budgetary issues and questions from the participants; the second two meetings will look at specifics of the plan as well as related questions from the participants. The StoryThe Whole Family. The Whole Bible. The Whole YearFor those of you who haven’t been around in a while, our congregation is currently on a 31-week journey through the Bible utilizing the best-selling book, The Story. The response has been overwhelmingly positive as people are discovering how God’s story intersects with their story. The Sunday sermon and Compass are based on the Biblical texts contained within each chapter. In addition, our Adult Sunday School class, Wednesdays in the Word, youth groups, small

groups, and Children’s Sunday School classes are studying The Story together. This is truly a journey through the whole Bible, with the whole family for (almost) the whole year.

As Lutherans, we believe that the Bible is the sole rule and norm for our lives. We believe that The Story will help deepen your understanding of Scripture and ignite a passion within you to dive deeper into the original Biblical texts for further exploration. Please prayerfully consider your participation with us on this journey of discovery. Books are available for sale through the church office. If you have any other questions, please call Pastor Joel.

The StoryJuly Sermon Series

As we continue our journey through God’s Story, the Bible, we have seen and heard, again and again, that this divine story is THE Story. It is a story that changes saves lives and transforms hearts; it is an epic story in the truest sense of the word! The Story reveals to us God’s plan of personal and cosmic redemption and reconciliation. Our prayer is that you see your lower story (your life as it unfolds) through God’s Upper Story of divine creation, redemption, and sanctification. Every month, since the beginning of this series in February, we have reminded you about the goals of The Story congregational series. Our hope and prayer is that we will be:

In June, we acknowledged some of the “milestones of faith” in our church family. Through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, we welcome into the family of God:

As we continue through the pages of the New Testament, our schedule will be:July 1st. Sermon Title: “The Birth of the King.” Primary Text(s): John 1.1-14 It seems odd to think about Christmas in July! Yet, The Story now takes its dramatic turn! The God of the Old Testament becomes flesh. The Second Member of the Trinity enters into our world. God’s salvific plan is embodied in a carpenter from Nazareth. The Word at creation that brought forth life now makes His dwelling among us! It is through the birth of Jesus that we understand God is truly WITH us!

July 8th. Sermon Title: “Jesus’ Ministry Begins.” Primary Text(s): Matthew 4:1-11. Jesus is for us. We see this in His baptism and in His encounter in the wilderness with Satan. Jesus is our Savior in every way. Jesus goes before us in baptism, with the devil, in death, and in resurrection. Jesus is our hope in everything we face in our lives.

July 15th. Sermon Title: “Jesus and the Kingdom of God.” Primary Text(s): Mark 1.14-15, 4.26-34. It is ironic that in the very world that God created, Jesus is “outsider.” He spoke in language we are not used to and lived by principles never known to us and which we find difficult to embrace. Jesus spoke of a “kingdom,” a “reign” of God that is “good news” as opposed to the “bad news” of this present age. In The Story we discover Jesus declaring, “The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news.”

July 22nd. Sermon Title: “Who is Jesus?” Primary Text(s): Mark 8.27-30. In Mark 8:29 we read that Jesus gathered his disciples together and asked them “Who do the people say that I am?” Jesus, then, asked the disciples directly, “Now, who do you say that I am?” Peter answered first, saying, “You are the Messiah, the Son of God.” The question about Jesus

reverberates through history: “Who is this man?” Every thoughtful person has to raise and answer this question. Just as in Jesus’ day there were various popular answers, so there are many “answers” in our own time. What does The Story tell us about this Jesus?

July 29th. Sermon Title: “The Cross: The Hour of Darkness.” Primary Text(s): Matthew 27.33-50 . All throughout The Story, we have seen that one of the core issues is the sin of God’s people. In the Old Testament, God addressed the problem of sin through Temple and the sacrificial system. Now, Jesus becomes the final sacrifice for our sins. He is the Temple of God. On the cross Jesus took our sin into Himself and died the death we deserve. All human attempts to achieve salvation are met with Jesus’ shout of victory from the cross: “It is finished!”Don’t forget to bring your copy of the book The Story, as well as your Bible, to worship and weekly Bible studies. May you continue to be blessed through The Story of God’s love for you!

rhlwWednesday Morning Bible Class“Hebrews” Wednesday 7:15 a.m. Prayer ChapelTeacher: Pastor SethBeginning in the month of July, our Wednesday morning Bible study will begin a verse-by-verse exploration of the New Testament book of Hebrews.

The book of Hebrews was an Epistle (letter) to Jewish Christians who were enduring a severe persecution (See Hebrews 10:32-36). Because of this persecution, and in some cases, even martyrdom, the faith of these believers was weakening and wavering. Consequently, they were tempted to abandon their Christian faith. However, Hebrews encourages the church to stand strong in Jesus who also faced severe tests of faith—for us!

Additionally, Hebrews boldly proclaims the superiority of Jesus and the Christian faith. All the laws, rituals, and animal sacrifices of the Old Testament pointed toward Jesus. Even the events and people in the Old Testament were types and foreshadows of Jesus (The “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11 is an example). Jesus’ life, ministry and sacrifice for our sins, was perfect and complete. When we accept him as Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven and we are empowered to follow Him and receive strength from Him in order live in hope and faith.

You are welcome to join us as we study this profound book of scripture! Bring your Bible. If you need one, we’ll get you one! If you are able to attend, this class adjourns to Coco’s in Tustin for breakfast after the study (8:00 a.m.).

Between August 5th and 19th, you’ll have the opportunity to sit for a family portrait for inclusion in the directory. Because we’re doing all the work ourselves, there is no sitting fee, sales pitch, or pressure to buy anything! (However, if you would like to order prints or photo gift items, you will receive instructions on how to do so through our church photo website.) Each member will receive a printed directory as well as access to an online directory. Sign-ups will begin on Sunday, July 8. How not to take a family portrait!

Broadway in the Park Returns! This year’s Broadway in the Park production, South Pacific. centers on an American nurse stationed at a U.S. Naval base during World War II who falls in love with an expatriate French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-race children. A second romance concerns a U.S. lieutenant who falls in love with a young Asian woman. It is considered to be one of the greatest Broadway musicals. Several of its songs, including “Bali Ha’i”, “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair”, “Some Enchanted Evening”, ““Younger than Springtime” and “I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy”, have become popular standards. The Broadway production won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Libretto, and it is the only musical production ever to have won all four Tony Awards for acting.

Red Hill Lutheran Church is a proud sponsor of Broadway in the Park.

On behalf of the Lutheran Bible Translators, it is my pleasure to congratulate you on having been named a recipient of the 2011 Director’s Award. Not only does the awarding of this recognition affirm your commitment of faithful giving to God’s mission for 2011, it is our way of saying “thank you” for your generous gifts, your prayers, and your support of Bible translation, literacy, and Scripture engagement.

Thank you for your partnership in bringing the gospel to people in need of Scripture—helping us complete over 30 New Testaments, working in 15 countries and on five continents. And progress continues as three new missionary teams prepare to serve in the mission field in 2013.

Summer Bell Choir: Let the Song Ring Out!Do you savor the melody and harmony of choir bells? Have you ever dreamt of creating those ringing tones? Well, Red Hill has an exciting invitation for you. Our wonderful organist Linda Brown, a gifted musician in choral and orchestral conducting and leading hand bell

choirs is celebrating the re-introduction of our completely refurbished bells with a “pick up” hand bell choir to perform on Sunday, July 29 and August 26.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for both “wanna-be” and experienced ringers (all ages)! If you’ve never rung bells before, come and share your enthusiasm. If you’re an experienced ringer, come and share your talent. We plan to meet Thursday evenings for short and fun rehearsals beginning July 5, 5:45-7:00 p.m.

Watch the Sunday Announcement page for further details. Any questions - contact Jason Harney ([email protected]) or call the church office ([email protected].

Getting to know:

Congregational Care. There is a large number of Congregational Care Team members at Red Hill who are here to serve you. These willing volunteers are trained in ministering to the needs of God’s people who are experiencing life’s difficulties; such as: illness, elder care, confined to home, hospitalized or struggling with job loss, divorce, loss of loved one. Since God has provided our congregation with so many willing to serve, it stands to reason that there are many to be served. If you have a need, please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Seth or Monica in the church office at 714-544-3131.

Prayer Group meets Mondays at 2:00 p.m. You are cordially invited to join us at the home of Jane Rosenburg. Please contact the church office or Rosemarie Shultz - 714-838-2884.

John Caamano

“Surfing - It’s not a sport - It’s a lifestyle!” declares John Caamano who acknowledges surfing as his passion - one of many passions woven into his extraordinarily busy life. John came to Los Angeles from Ecuador when his parents sought better opportunities for their five-year-old son and his two sisters. Completing St. Thomas catholic elementary school, he

attended Los Angeles High School where his ever-present surfboard distinguished him from the crowd. It became his passport to elude “less desirable street activities.” He believes God’s hand was on him giving him a clean decent sport that required skill and diligence.

Following graduation, John served in the USMC for four years as machine gunner and light amphibious tank driver. Next, Cleveland Chiropractic College for his Doctor of Chiropractic degree; and a move to Tustin when he opened his Santa Ana practice in 1992 (later opening an office in LA). During this time John’s banking habits netted him some awesome interest - a date with the BofA teller with the beautiful eyes. He married Annie Pulaski the following year, and sixteen happy years later they proudly introduce 14-yr-old twins Sydney and Natalie; Alexandra 12 and 9-yr-old Adam - all alumnae or current students at our school where Annie has been on the staff for four years, presently as Asst. PreK director.

“It was through the eyes of our kids and the positive experience at RHLS that we (both Roman Catholics)became involved with the church and never looked back.” The entire Caamano family is very active at Red Hill. John (accompanied by Sydney and Natalie) has been particularly involved with our building projects and the orphanage Ciudad De Los Angeles in Tijuana. He lists as his proudest accomplishments his strong marriage with Annie and a home and family, where God and godly values are the center. He gives thanks to God for his health, his professional endeavors; his parents (he lunches with them each week in LA), and his extended family at Red Hill “where we share a common belief that bonds us together and makes us feel at home.”

John’s outside activities: keeping up with his kids, playing tennis once a week; “loves to dance” (didn’t say where), and as to that “surfing lifestyle”- He’s out on “dawn patrol” three mornings a week (never on Sunday!). He’s surfed around the world, voting Indonesia as #1, with the Trestles at San Clemente his local favorite. “It’s what relaxes, renews and restores the stresses of life. It is a time when I can be alone with God and nature.” And, yes, he’s still looking for that “perfect wave.”

Nightlight Christian Adoptions ConcertWednesday, July 18th at 6:00 p.m.Every year Nightlight Christian Adoptions brings children to Southern California from orphanages overseas. In past years they have brought children from Russia, Taiwan, and Ukraine. Red Hill Lutheran Church has been supporting their summer tour as part of our worldwide mission program since 2006.

For the 2012 Summer Tour, Nightlight and Every Child Has a Name, a division of Detsky Dom Partners, are bringing 9 children from Kyrgyzstan to the United States from July 12th through August 2nd. This tour will give the children the opportunity to experience life in a family and perform at various venues in California and Colorado, including Red Hill Lutheran Church. The children will have a chance to share their talents and rich culture by performing traditional Kyrgystanian folk songs and dances. They will be performing at Red Hill Lutheran Church on Wednesday July 18st. Come join us at 6:00pm for a barbeque with the children and their host families followed by a special performance at 7:00pm by these amazing kids! There is no cost for this event, although a free-will offering will be accepted.

The FoundationHigh School MinistryWe meet on Sunday nights in PPU (Peter’s Parish Underground in the CLC Building). Come and hang out with us from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. We spend our time in worship, Bible study, and falling on our knees in gratitude for the great grace we receive in Jesus!

Car Wash Fundraiser: July 1st, 2012 Sunday July 1st we are having a Car Wash Fundraiser to raise money for our upcoming Youth Summer Retreats and Mission Trip. The Car wash will be from 8:00am – 1:00pm. You can drop off your car with an adult attendant, go to church and come back to a clean car. Or, you can hang while you watch our youth hand wash your car. The fundraiser is by donation (there is no set price) and all funds go to the “Youth Event Scholarship Fund”, for students who otherwise couldn’t attend summer trips. If a car wash isn’t your thing, please consider sponsoring a student for camp by giving a gift (place it in the tithe bowl), marking it “Youth Event Scholarship Fund”. Each year we offer more than a dozen student scholarships. Thank you for your consideration.

Lake San Antonio Trip: July 22nd – 28th This year we will be heading back to Lake San Antonio for a week of sunning and funning… Last year was our first time on Lake San Antonio and it was so amazing we decided to head back… so we’re gonna Party Rock! When I say Party Rock I mean – Wake Boarding, Water Skiing, Knee Boarding, splashing around in a lake like a toddler, deluxe air conditioned accommodations, gourmet meals (cooked by some amazing volunteers), Bibe Study, Worship, Game Competition, and sooooo much more. The cost: $350.00 – I know it’s a bit much, but believe me it’ll be worth it!!! If you are in need of a partial scholarship, please let us know (contact: [email protected] ). We want to make it so that ALL of you can go!!! 22 spots available – 1st come, 1st served. We are looking forward to what God will do in our lives – [so please begin praying for us now!!!!!]. This year’s THEME will look at the INTERFERENCE we experience in life, in pursuit of godliness. Most of us call our lives our own, but if we really take Jesus words seriously, then it would seem our lives are really… HIS. So why do we say that things interfere with “OUR” lives? Are these “interferences” opportunities to engage God and the world that He has bought back and is presently redeeming? Come find out!!!! Incoming 9th graders are encouraged to join us!!!!

DATE CHANGE: Summer Book Club [Begins June 28th, 2012] The book club is back this summer. WHY, You may ask? This is to help us deepen our understanding of the Christian faith from a source outside of the Bible (though it will obviously be referenced). The first book we will jump into will be Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. If you need a copy of the book, please let me know and I will get you one (for a small fee – should be around $5.00). I look forward to the conversations we have around some interesting topics like, Love, Death, Heaven, Hell, the Human Condition, God’s grace, etc… Do yourself a favor and join us for book club. It just might change your life! (it might not, so don’t get all “expectation” on me!).

Vacation Bible School: A BIG THANK YOU!Children’s Ministry would like to send out a BIG THANK YOU to all the families who participated in our VBS and made it such a success! Each day at VBS, we learned

that No matter who you are, No matter how you feel, No matter what people do, No matter what happens- TRUST GOD! Your kids learned some catchy, new songs this during VBS, alongside all original choreography! Asking your children to perform these songs for you is a wonderful way to connect your child’s church life with their family life! Through song, creativity, experiments, prayer, games & fellowship-your child learned that they are perfect in God’s eyes-just the way they are.

Children’s Min. Missions! Our mission project this year is in cooperation with Operation Kid-to-Kid and WorldVision to make an effort to protect children from a small-but deadly- enemy, mosquitoes. In many countries (particularly Africa), mosquitoes carry a frightening disease called Malaria that is often fatal. Malaria is one of the deadliest diseases impacting poor children around the world. The gift of a simple mosquito net can go a long way toward keeping children safe. For every $6 that our church donates, WorldVision can purchase one bed net that will protect two or more children. These specially treated nets, draped over a child’s bed while he or she sleeps, can last up to four years. I am proud to announce that your children donated $210.00 towards our mission project this year-a total of 35 nets. Since each net protects 4 children, that is 140 kids that your children helped!!!! Alongside their generous donation, the children created Friendship cards that will be sent with their donation to help encourage in Mali, Africa to trust in God, no matter what happens. What an amazing gift! Thank you to all volunteers who contributed to such a special time of sharing the love of Jesus! Your time and efforts were such an example of being disciples of God. EVERYTHING IS TRULY POSSIBLE WITH GOD!
