marriage or parenting, we must plan carefully like the king in today’s

gospel. These are serious commitments which demand complete self-

giving and are not for the faint hearted or selfish.

This Labor Day weekend, some families will enjoy the final days of summer vacation as we embark on a new school year. Most students have been back in class for more than a week now, and have fallen into the rhythm of classes, sports and after school activities. Labor Day itself, Monday, September 5th, is a national holiday in which we celebrate the value and dignity of our work as an important contribution to society and a means of providing for our families. Whatever our occupation, in the workplace or the home, God has endowed us

with talents that we invest in society so as to express our abilities, make a helpful contribution to our community and earn a living for ourselves and our loved ones. This Labor Day, I am especially mindful of our parish staff at Our Lady of Grace. Over the past year or so, we have experienced a rash of injuries, illnesses and operations, that have effected the various services we deliver to the parishioners at OLG. Beginning with my own open-heart surgery about a year ago, all but three of the fifteen OLG parish staff members have experienced health problems these past 12 months, including knee surgeries, hip treatments, back surgery, foot surgery, heart treatments, abdominal surgery, eye surgery, thyroid therapies, quadricep injuries, osteoporosis, an other nagging conditions that will require therapy, surgery or treatment in the near future. In our school faculty, one of our teachers has had to deal with cancer, treatment and recovery. Of course, some of these problems have to do with our age, but the rash of these staff conditions over the past year has been unusual and made for challenges in the carrying out of our service to our parishioners. The reason why I wanted to let you know about these health situations, is so that you might have a clear picture of the challenges our parish and school staffs have faced over this past year. We need your continued prayers as we do our best to serve the people of our parish despite our own considerable health concerns. On behalf of the staff, thank you for the many expressions of compassion and shows of support that you have given to us over this past difficult year. Rev. Richard A. Infante Pastor

The priests, parishioners and staff would like to welcome everyone here today celebrating Mass with us at Our Lady of Grace Parish and to wish you

a Safe and Happy Labor Day.

ALICE HARPUR MINISTRY—All widows, widowers and anyone experiencing loss are invited to the bereavement luncheon on Wednesday, September 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the St. Thomas More Family Life Center. Paula Elliott, an OLG parishioner and certified grief support facilitator, will be the guest speaker. Her topic is “What to Expect from Grief.” Please RSVP by calling 412-916-7151 or email [email protected] no later than next Sunday, September 11.

PEACE AND PRAYER DAY—Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh is hosting a Day for Peace and Prayer in front of its offices in downtown Pittsburgh, 212 Ninth Street this Friday, September 9. Bishop David A. Zubik will lead the prayer service, at 11:-00 a.m. which should last about 30 minutes. The local event is in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Catholic Charities USA, who established September 9 as a Day for Peace and Prayer.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS—If you want to build a tower or plant a garden you need to plan ahead. So too, if you want to build a strong marriage, plan ahead. Plan a date for next weekend. Sign up now for a marriage enrichment event (http://www.susanvogt.net/Marriage.htm#MarriageLinks) sometime this year. Don’t procrastinate.

PRAYING WITH WATERCOLOR—Sister Margaret Marszal, HM, will offer a one day prayer experience next Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center. For more information, call 724-964-8886 or visit www.vmesc.org.

SCREENAGERS—This is a 60 minute film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life — it depicts messy struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through surprising insights from authors and brain scientists, solutions emerge on how we can empower kids to best navigate the digital world. The film will be shown next Sunday, September 11 beginning at 6:15 p.m. at the St. Thomas More Family Life Center. For more information, contact Deb Dell at 412-833-0031, ext. 230.
