GOD’S WAYS In the stream of readings during this portion of Ordinary Time one week’s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week’s concluded. The sentiments expressed in to-day’s first reading seem to be a direct reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landowner pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for only a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the la-ment, “The L ’s way is not fair!”( Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Ordinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God’s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who al-ways expected that their way to heaven was guaranteed are dis-appointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are giv-en that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God’s mercy and love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Please make your check payable to the parish. Thank you.

They meet weekly for several months to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion at the Easter Vigil. The low-key and confidential meetings are where we share our spirituality as well as discuss the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Adult Catholics who have been baptized and have re-ceived First Communion but not Confirmation are wel-come to join if they wish to be confirmed in a diocesan ceremony in February. Watch the bulletin for more infor-mation about classes starting soon.

  • LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

    The Proclamation of the Gospel—#204

The economy and the distribution of income We can no longer trust in the unseen forces and the invisi-ble hand of the market. Growth in justice requires more than economic growth, while presupposing such growth: it requires decisions, programmes, mechanisms and pro-cesses specifically geared to a better distribution of in-come, the creation of sources of employment and an inte-gral promotion of the poor which goes beyond a simple welfare mentality. I am far from proposing an irresponsi-ble populism, but the economy can no longer turn to rem-edies that are a new poison, such as attempting to increase profits by reducing the work force and thereby adding to the ranks of the excluded. Fr. Terry’s Remarks—Who does not like progress? Well! There is always the exception, all these wonderful new gadgets. I have not handwritten a letter for years. But they all come at a cost, convenience for one and a loss of work for another. More cash for some, no job for others. This is what Pope Francis calls the ' silent poison' that is seeping into our social structure these days. People are calling for a code of ethics for Facebook, Apple, etc. as we begin to realize that they are endangering us in ways that were hidden to us. Is it time we developed a code of ethics that takes account of those who are forgot-ten and left behind in our exhilarating new world?
