Speaker: Stephanie Luna Topic: “On the Journey”

SALVATION IN DAILY LIFE This Sunday is the feast of the Holy Family, which comes on the first Sunday after Christmas Day. Today’s feast celebrates how the humanity of Jesus (including his entire family life) has brought saving significance into the daily rhythms of our hu-man family life. The scriptures offer instruction and encour-agement on how to share—within our families, par-ish families, and the wider human family—the love that God shares with us in Jesus. Selections from Si-rach, Psalm 128, and Colossians encourage us to re-flect divine love and thus find holiness in all our hu-man relationships. The reading from Matthew’s Gos-pel offers a living example of love in the actions Jo-seph took to protect his young family from danger and to nurture them within the larger family of faith of their time. — Copyright © J. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In the last century, a few new feasts were blended into the Church year, including today’s. Af-ter World War I, the chaos of daily life in Europe made its impact felt on the family structure. Partly to offer Christians an image of hope and holiness in married family life, and also to promote the welfare of children, today’s feast was “invented” in 1921. In 1969, it became a feast of Christmas. The prayers today remind us not only of fami-ly life, but of life in the community of faith. We pon-der the mystery of a God who loves us dearly enough to embrace the struggles, joys, and daily sorrows of family life. The message of Christmas shines through: God-with-us is available to us in the ordinary patterns of our lives and commitments. The lives of people who raise their children in difficult circumstances, and of people who remain faithful to life in the Church in spite of some of their own family struggles, occupy a special place in our hearts today in prayer. —Rev. BEWARE!!!

Several parishes have reported that the email/text gift card scam is underway again. As we have shared be-fore, it is a national scam. You can google “priest scam gift cards” and see how widespread it is. We need to battle this through education and communica-tion to the parishioners/school families.

LAUDATO SI’ OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS

ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME

LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY

#32 The earth’s resources are also being plun-dered because of short-sighted approaches to the economy, commerce and production. The loss of for-ests and woodlands entails the loss of species which may constitute extremely important resources in the future, not only for food but also for curing disease and other uses. Different species contain genes which could be key resources in years ahead for meeting human needs and regulating environmental problems. Fr. Terry’s Remarks: All of us love instant rewards and the whole thrust of almost all the advertising that constantly bombards us promises immediate satisfaction. No wonder that so much of our businesses are short-sighted so that we are losing our forests and woodlands and a grow-ing number of species. Future resources are being wasted. We are saving our dollars to ensure our fu-ture golden years but we are negligent in ensuring our very environment in which we hope to live our golden years.
