LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#111 The entire people of God proclaims the Gospel Evangelization is the task of the Church. The Church, as the agent of evangelization, is more than an organic and hierarchical institution; she is first and foremost a people advancing on its pilgrim way towards God. She is certain-ly a mystery rooted in the Trinity, yet she exists concrete-ly in history as a people of pilgrims and evangelizers, transcending any institutional expression, however neces-sary. I would like to dwell briefly on this way of under-standing the Church, whose ultimate foundation is in the free and gracious initiative of God. A people for everyone Fr. Terry’s Remarks— When many of us think of our Church, too often the image that comes to mind is either a building or an institution of Pope, bishops, priests, etc., nearly always an institution of some kind. But like our Faith, the Church is primarily people like you and me in a close and personal relationship with Jesus. We must try more and more to see the Church as each of us and all of us on a march, on a pilgrimage relating to each other and moving towards God. Each of us must try and en-courage others to join in. It is the best thing we can do for them, people we love, people we are distant from, people we fear or 'hate'. Don't be held back by your lack of knowledge. It’s not a ' brain' you are bringing to Jesus. It is a breathing, warm-blooded, loving, frightened human being. Have you seen some of the pictures that the great-hearted people carry in their arms, children they rescued from drowning in the Mediterranean Sea? These wonder-ful loving people don't ask questions. Some can't even swim, all they know is a fellow is in danger. He/she needs dry land so let's get her/him to land. We all need God, let's get everyone to Jesus.
