FAMILY ACTIVITY: Hold a family picnic this week as summer vacation draws to an end or as our society gets ready to return to the regular activities of early autumn. On the picnic, hold a race – like the one suggested in today's second reading. Afterward, talk together about what it means to keep one's eye on the goal in a race. DISHES LEFT AT THE RECTORY will be in the back of Church. If you sent food to the Rectory during Father Ward’s recovery please pick up your dish this weekend!

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SOUL of Patricia McFadden, and the souls of all the faithful departed.

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL: As of Aug. 9th our parishioners have raised $10,482 from 68 parishioners representing 20.86% of our total number of registered families in our parish. Thank you to those who have pledged! THE WOMEN’S CLUB has begun work on their yearly basket raffle. If you would like to donate a basket please contact Judy at 570-325-3310. LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS: Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time. We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus teachings and warnings, and seek to understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen. © J.
