Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary-- This Week

This week we celebrate the great Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. While, in many cases, people are unable to join us for holy days in general because of work and school schedules, this one is particularly special and important. The Feast of Mary’s Immaculate Conception is also the celebration of the Patronal Saint of the United States for which we ask Our Lady’s special intercession for the needs of our church and nation. In fact, a Basilica in Washington is named the Church of the Immaculate Conception to which many people make pilgrimages each year. It is a magnificent church which I have visited numerous times. (Maybe we’ll do a trip one of these days). With all that our country has experienced in recent months with seeming divisiveness among people, we turn to Our Lady and ask Her special grace to bring healing and hope; to help us discover anew the dignity that belongs to every person. Therefore, I invite everyone to make an extra effort to join us for Mass on this Feast Day. Masses are Wednesday, December 7th at 7:30pm (Vigil Mass) and on Thursday, December 8th at 9am and 12 Noon.

The Canticle of Mary

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit finds joy in God my savior; for he has looked upon His servant in her lowliness;

all ages to come shall call me blessed. God who is mighty has done great things for me, holy is His name;

His mercy is from age to age on those who fear Him. He has shown might with His arm;

He has confused the proud in their inmost thoughts. He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and raised the lowly to high places.

The hungry He has given every good thing, while the rich He has sent empty away. He has upheld Israel his servant, ever mindful of His mercy;

Even as He promised our fathers, promised Abraham and His descendants forever. Amen.

I’m happy to note that 75% of the Human Development Collection from a couple of weeks ago went directly to support our Food Pantry representing a gift of $2,220. Thanks as always for your generous support. Hoping all of you will have a grace-filled Advent and that all your Christmas preparations go smoothly, God Bless… Fr. John

Fran Boylan – Holy Spirit Food Pantry News

The Fran Boylan – Holy Spirit Food Pantry thanks the parishioners at Holy Spirit for your continued support and generosity. We are so grateful for the donations of turkeys, chickens, and large amounts of shelf stable food items. During the month of November we gave turkeys, thanksgiving fixings and other much needed shelf stable foods to 191 families from Peekskill and Cortlandt. These families were made up of 338 children, 350 adults and 65 senior citizens. The food pantry clients were very thankful to receive the thanksgiving fixings and turkeys that they were able to cook and share with their family. Thank you again for your continued generosity and support of the food pantry. We accept food donations throughout the year that can be left in the children’s liturgy room in the back of the church. The next food distribution dates are Monday, December 12th from 6-8pm and Wednesday, December 14th from 9:30am-12:00noon.

Christmas Spiritual Bouquet As a spiritual gift, remember your loved ones during our Christmas Masses. Christmas cards with intention envelopes will be available next weekend. Fill out the Christmas Spiritual Bouquet envelope and return it with your stipend (offering)

enclosed. You may place it in the collection basket or drop it at the Parish Office. All Christmas Masses will be offered for these intentions.

Rediscover Christmas This Advent let us make a special effort to welcome home for Christmas those who have not been active in the Church. Think about family members, friends, neighbors, etc. that you can invite to our Advent and Christmas Liturgy Celebrations. Extend a warm welcome to have them join you and our Parish community at Mass.

Reminder to Giving Tree Volunteers – If you volunteered to help, please meet in the Parish Activity Center on Sunday, December 12th at 2:00pm for the final sorting and organizing of Giving Tree gifts. The more volunteers who help, the quicker the work will get done. All gifts should have been returned, wrapped and with the star securely attached by 1:00 PM on this Sunday December 4th. If you have any questions please call Rita at (914) 737-1780 or Patty at (914) 772-5538. Thank you for your generosity.

PARISH BLOOD DRIVE Our next Parish Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, December 27th, from 3:00 to 9:00PM in the Parish Activity Center. Please consider including the gift of life on your Christmas list. It will cost only

an hour of your time – after Christmas – and you can give it while lying down. To schedule a donation, please sign up in the Children’s Liturgy Room next weekend. Questions? Call Jeff at (914) 739-5423. At our baptismal font, new life through water and the Holy Spirit came to:

Evan Matthew Bruno

The people of Holy Spirit Parish welcome the newly baptized into our Christian community. Congratulations!

Christmas unity Christmas is a wonderful time to forgive anyone who hurt or disappointed us. After all, Jesus came to repair our broken relationship with God. He will give us the strength and power to forgive others if we ask.
