We tooexperience hunger. We need to be assured thatt h e L o rd i s w i t h u s a s we n a v i g a t e t h e circumstances of our lives, some of whichfeel dangerous, if not to our bodies, certainly toour spirit. Dear Parishioners,
Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, more
popularly known as Corpus Christi.
The history behind this feast is that the Pope at the time wanted to honor the gift of the
Eucharist apart from the somber atmosphere of Holy Week.
He invited to learned priests, Thomas Aquinas, a Dominican, and Bonaventure, a
Franciscan, to compose the texts for the proposed feast. They drew straws to see who would
read his text first.
Thomas went first and as he read his composed texts, Bonaventure tore his up and said
there was no doubt that Thomas’ was the better.
The hymns that we’ve sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament come from Saint
Thomas Aquinas and help us all to focus on this sacrament of the total gift of self on the part of
Jesus.
Friday of this week will be the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast has as its
focus the human heart of Jesus, the heart that wants to be loved in return. The reciprocation of
our love should be natural and spontaneous rather than an obligation. Let’s ask the Sacred
Heart of Jesus for the grace to respond to Him wholeheartedly, joyfully and without counting
the cost.
Next Sunday, June 21st, will be the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time and, in our
country, Father’s Day. The Father’s Day Novena will begin that day.

The Vocation Office is pleased to announce two new programs geared for young men in Junior High and High School:
THE JEREMIAH PROJECT
This program is for high school boys who show some interest in vocation to the priesthood and/or college seminary. This program invites students to participate in a monthly overnight experience and share in the fraternity of our college seminarians. FRATERNITAS This program is for middle school students (6-8th grade) dedicated to instilling Christian values in young men with the goal of fostering true Catholic Gentlemen. More than ever we need to educate our children in our Catholic Faith.
