    Dear Friends,

Once upon a time in San Francisco, a vision-

ary publishing company decided to create a

childrens list. And when it did, it ollowed

its guiding principle to see things differently.

Ever since that first list was published twenty-

five years ago, Chronicle Books has dazzled

booklovers and gif givers with distinctivequality and a unique point o view.

Were proud to be creative risk-takers, as

youll see in these pages. The heart o our

    list remains the simple-yet-brilliant concept

book. Over the years, weve nurtured kids

    imaginations with story and character-

driven picture books, fiction or all ages,

    and beguiling ormats, licensed publishing,

stationery, and games. Our aim, as always,

is to surprise and delight readers rom 1 to

    100 with one-o-a-kind publishing.

To all o you who have helped make our story

    so extraordinary: THANK YOU!

Heres to the first glorious twenty-five years

    and many more ever afer!

The Templeton Twins Have an IdeaBook 1

By Ellis Weiner Illustrated by Jeremy Holmes

Suppose there were 12-year-old twins, a boy and girl named John andAbigail Templeton. Lets say John was pragmatic and played the drums, and

Abigail was theoretical and solved cryptic crosswords. Now suppose their

father was a brilliant, if sometime confused, inventor. And suppose that another

set of twinsadultsnamed Dean D. Dean and Dan D. Dean, kidnapped

the Templeton twins and their ridiculous dog in order to get their father to

turn over one of his genius (sort of ) inventions. Yes, kidnapped. Wouldnt it

be fun to read about that? Oh please. It would so. Now in paperback, this is

just the first in a series perfect for boys and girls who are smart, clever, and

funny (just like the twins), and enjoy reading adventurous stories (who

    doesnt?!). And now, theres more!

The Templeton Twins Make a SceneBook 2

By Ellis Weiner Illustrated by Jeremy Holmes

With its kid-perfect humor and dynamic illustrations, Book 1 of the hilariousTempleton Twins series left young readers clamoring for more. This time,

Abigail and John Templeton find themselves at TAPAS (the Thespian Academy

of the Performing Arts and Sciences) where their father, the illustrious Profes-

sor Templeton, has been hired to invent a groundbreaking theatrical device.

Once again, there is drama (of course!), silliness, and suspense, as the twins

(and their ridiculous dog) must thwart the dastardly Dean brothers in order

to save the invention as well as their father (and the dog). Oh yes, there is

sure to be another recipe. This time for guacamole. Or is it coleslaw?

T empleto in ar c!REA DE RS O F THE F IR ST BO OK will

be deliriously happy to encounter John and

Abigail Templeton again in this book. How-ever, if they hoped (because they loved the

first book so very much) that the entire

story of this book would be the same as the

story in the first, they will be disappointed.

Theyre not the only ones. Im disappointed,

too. I would much rather copy, word for

word, the first book, than have to think of an

entirely new series of words for the second

book. But, sadly, I have no choice. I hope youappreciate all the trouble Im going to,

thinking up and writing down all these new

words. But I doubt that you do.
