WORSHIP AT CHRISTUS VICTOR
Generations Growing in Faith Together! “O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your
wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to all the generations to come.
Your power and your righteousness, O God, reach the highest heavens.” Psalm 71: 17-19
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ at Christus Victor, Three generations sat together, wanting to know why I thought more people, especially young people were not coming to church. The grandfather, son-in-law, and grandson all were waiting for me to share some brilliant insight. And then I asked each of them in turn, “are you active in your own church, going to worship regularly? Do you participate in the ministries of the church and give generously to support the ministry? Do you share your faith and what Jesus means to you with your family and friends?” And each of them in turn responded, “NO,” to each question. The grandson, in his mid-twenties, added that he did not know one person his age who went to church ever. It was an honest, but disheartening conversation.
Added to that have been all the preparations and hard work by the Facility Planning Team, Vanman Architects, the Finance Team, and the Core Team for our building project. Finalizing plans and documents, and preparing budgets and loan materials, to bring it all together for a final proposal to you, the members of CV. My prayer is that by the time you read this newsletter article, you will have approved the proposal, so we can move forward quickly to refresh, improve, and expand our facilities for the sake of our shared ministry and mission here at Christus Victor.
Then I had a chance to listen in on an amazing inter-generational Bible Study and faith conversation between the seniors of the Thursday Morning Bible Study Group and our Summer Stretch middle school and high school youth! The conversation was lively and deeply personal about their faith and life.

Their struggles with understanding the Bible and the need for life-long learning. Experiences of God at church, at home, at church camp, and with family and friends. They shared their faith in Jesus Christ, and the life-changing and life-giving relationship they have with God. Then the words of Psalm 71 came alive before my eyes, and my hope was restored! The Spirit of Christ is at work in our midst and in the lives of our elders and our youth! Parents and Grandparents, the most important thing you can do is to proclaim/share/tell our kids and grandkids, family and friends, about the wonderful things God has done in your lives and what your faith in Jesus Christ means to you! It’s a hard, vulnerable, challenging thing to do, but it is critically important in passing on the faith from one
generation to another. We each must look for as many opportunities as we can to share our faith with our family, so
that they can come to know the Lord for themselves. If your kids don’t know what your faith in Jesus means to you, it won’t mean anything to them! And That’s the Truth, Pastor Kent Claussen Gubrud

“All In Relational Ministry” involves a focus on
four psychological /inner longings which all people experience:
HOPE BELONGING PURPOSE UNIQUENESS
We all want to feel a sense of belonging. This isn’t a character flaw. It’s fundamental to the human experience. Our finest achievements are possible when people come together to work for a common cause. School spirit, the rightful pride we feel in our community, our heritage, our religion, and our families, all come from the value we place on belonging to a group. Rosalind Wiseman

Training will always be provided if needed. When CVLC members were asked why they attend church, some of the responses reflected the theme of BELONGING:
My Second family -- Friends Relationships - with members & God
My home away from home -- CV is family Fellowship -- Close community -- Friendly people Community – Fellowship -- Size of Congregation
Belonging to a group of believers Connection with my church family
Sometimes it can feel like we just don’t belong. That’s when it’s important to remember this awesome truth: We all belong to God’s family, and our heavenly Father will never forget us! The Bible says that all the people in the world who love Jesus make up one big family called the Body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
