Much has happened in the ten years since we set off “to put premium quality watches within the reach of everyone” but 2014, has by any measure, been the most exciting to date.

Not only have we merged with our Swiss partner, Synergies Horlogères, to create the first luxury watch brand that puts you, the customer, in direct touch with themanufacturer, we also launched our first in-house movement to an astonished audience on 2nd July in London.

Designed and developed by our master watchmaker, Johannes Jahnke, Calibre SH21 is an important milestone for the British watch industry and placesChristopher Ward at the forefront of horological innovation – a position we are immensely proud of.

Unsurprisingly, the first watch containing Calibre SH21, the C9 Harrison 5 DayAutomatic, opens this guide to our collection on page 8, but whichever page your eye restson you will be viewing watches and accessories that owe everything to the outstandingdesign and craftsmanship for which Christopher Ward has become renowned.

Classic timepieces such as the C5 Malvern Automatic Mk II and the C60 Tridentshave been joined this year by many exciting new models such as the C30 MalvernChronometer, and our most advanced diving watch to date, the C11 Titanium Extreme1000 which, as its name suggests, can withstand pressure up to depths of 1000 metres! It’s hard to believe that we are already celebrating Christopher Ward’stenth Christmas. It was in the run up to the big day back in 2004 that welearned our first watch, the now iconic C5 Malvern Automatic Mk 1,was being discussed on Timezone.com more frequently than Rolex. It was all because an important contributor, the Australian Dave Malone,declared to surprised horophiles the world over that he had discovered the best value mechanical watch in the known universe!

This Christmas, watch forums and blogs across the globe are busy discussing

the merits of our new C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic which contains our ground-

breaking in-house movement, Calibre SH21, conceived, designed and

assembled at our Biel atelier under the guidance of our master watchmaker,

Created by our master watchmaker, Johannes Jahnke,our new calibre, which is a certified chronometer by theSwiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), canrun under its own steam, once fully wound, for 120hours/5 days. And here's the really clever bit; unlike most

movements with such extended reserves of power thereis no compromise in the stability or robustness of themovement which means the wearer can be confidentthat his watch will withstand even quite ruggedconditions and require the minimum of servicing.

The design of the watch follows the familiar modernclassic ethos of the Harrison Collection. It has thatunderstated and timeless quality of all Harrisons whichrequires each element to be harmonious and brilliantlyexecuted so that the whole becomes greater than thesum of the parts.

Nothing unites young and old so effectively as ashared passion. For some it is sport, for others it might bemusic, classic cars, travel or history. But the commondenominator which enabled 28-year-old Johannes Jahnkeand an 87-year-old Jean Fillon to form an almost instantbond is their mutual fascination for horology – or, morespecifically, for solving the problems it so often produces.

Jean Fillon was just 24 years of age when he arrived atJames Aubert, the Swiss movement manufacturer that hadbeen established in the early 20th century to specialise insupplying chronograph mechanisms for the leading watchbrands of the day.

The bespoke JJ02 calibre movement of the C900 hasbeen extensively reworked from a Fillon design with a newmain plate, bridges, winding mechanism, centre-secondwheels, and a swan neck adjustment system.

The highly legible dial carries a continuous secondssub-dial and a 30-minute totaliser. All functions arecontrolled through the single pusher crown and the largeexhibition back allows the mechanism to be admired in all its glory.

There will be only 250 examples made of the steelversion and, even more exclusively, only 25 pieces of the18ct rose-gold version.

The C900 Worldtimer is the watch for anyonewho regularly travels the globe.

Both timezones function on a 24 Hour clockbasis as a result of master watchmaker, JohannesJahnke's unique modification of the ETA 2893'sgearing system. Additionally, he has synchronisedthe GMT hand to a rotating disc which shows therelevant airport code in a window at 12 O'clockas demonstrated by JFK in the image opposite.

This complication is then supported by a red dot appearing on the dial in the airport'sgeographic location.

Every detail of the C900 has been beautifullycrafted but deserving of special mention is themagnificent dial which is our finest to date.

No watch is more closely associated with theChristopher Ward story than the MK I version of theMalvern Automatic. It was both a landmark forChristopher Ward being one of the first two designsintroduced in 2005.The most significant change inthis second version is the move to a slightly larger

39mm case and the new one-piece dial with aglorious optic white or sunray galvanic finish. Subtleelongations to the raised indexes add to thecontemporary but timeless appeal of the new design.The Malvern MK II is a worthy successor to its famouspredecessor. A new legend in the making.

When poring over vintage Aston Martin dashboardsat the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon in early 2004Mike and Chris were inspired to create the original C3 Chronograph.

They had no idea then that this classic lookingsports watch would become such an iconic watch forthe CW brand.

In Mark II trim, the new version loses none of thequintessentially English appeal of the original. Thenew galvanic and optic white one piece dials, as wellas bringing a fresh, more contemporary appeal, alsoadd greater clarity to the chronograph eyes, givingthem greater prominence.

It seems odd that it took us so long to create achronometer version of the much-cherished C3Malvern Chronograph, and it was only our 10thAnniversary that prompted us in the end. However, thelong wait has at least been worthwhile.

The C30 has the very recognisable optic white dialdetails of the Aston Martin inspired C3 Mk II, althoughthe deep red of the additional stopwatch hand adds asporting touch to this classic dress chronograph.

Sir William Lyons of the Jaguar Car Companydesigned the sleek and finely streamlined D-Typeentirely with Le Mans in mind, and from 1955 to 1957 he was rewarded with an historic hat-trick ofvictories there.

It was under the illustrious Flag Metallic Blue liveryof Scotland's Ecurie Ecosse team, however, thatsecured the most famous victory for the car when,driven by Britons Ron Flockhart and Ivor Bueb, chassisnumber XKD 606 stormed the race, ahead of anotherfour D-Types in the top six places.

The C70 D-Type chronograph, powered by anETA 251.272, 22 jewel quartz movement and dressedresplendently in the Ecurie Ecosse team's colours,carries the winning car's chassis number in the tachymeter and the car's registration on theside of the case. Embedded behind museum-grade sapphire crystal in theback-plate of this stunning chronometer is an original piece ofexterior panelling from the seventh GTO (only 39 were ever built),which left the Ferrari factory on 22nd May, 1962. The date isactually featured in the watch's tachymeter.

To understand the GTO's importance in the annals ofautomotive history, one needs only to recall the world record $52million spent by an unnamed buyer in October 2013 to securechassis number 5111 GT from Connecticut-based collector PaulPappalardo.

The chassis number of the C70's car, 3527 GT, gives thisstrictly limited watch its nomenclature, and this is indicated on theside of the case.

The traditional Ferrari colouring of the beautifully executeddial serves as an impressive overture for the back-plate of the

watch. The piece of original metal has been skillfully cut byexperts in Switzerland to allow the number 6 from the car'snumber-plate to be shown in glorious Rosso Corsa livery.

To own a Ferrari 250 GTO is an impossible dream for all but ahandful of billionaire collectors and ageing rock stars (Nick Masonof Pink Floyd owns one); but for a fortunate few, the dream can beat least partially realised by owning the C70 3527 GT.

The C70 3527 GT – named from the chassis number of theseventh Ferrari 250 GTO to leave the Maranello gates and fromwhich it has a precious fragment of body panel in the case back–is a limited edition of 100.

The C70 VW4 Chronometer has been inspired by the 1957victory at Aintree of the Vanwall VW4 racing car that startedwith Tony Brooks behind the wheel and took the chequeredflag with Stirling Moss in the driver's seat.

This was the first time a World Championship Grand Prixrace had been won in Britain by a British car, driven by Britishdrivers. As the Vanwall cars were constructed in Maidenhead,the home of Christopher Ward, the astonishing story of howthis British team fought off and beat the then all-conqueringFerraris is particularly close to us, and we felt an overwhelmingneed to create a watch of equal style and panache tocelebrate the achievement.

The movement, a rare chronometer version of ETA's superb251 calibre movement, sets the bar very high for yet anothersignature motor racing watch from the CW design studio.

The Number 20 of the winning car occupies the 12 o’clock position on the face, while the 18 of the secondmachine is highlighted in Vanwall's trim colour of yellow on thebezel. Moss's astonishing 90.61mph best average lap speed ispicked out in red on the tachymeter. The reverse of the watch enshrines the British achievement with a deep-etched engraving.

We have aviation to thank for men’s wrist watches, for until flyingpioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend, the watchmakerLouis Cartier, that he found using his pocket watch awkward in flight –which invoked the famous 1904 Cartier Santos watch - it was only womenwho wore watches this way.

More than a hundred years later, pilot’s watches take many forms, although

few have achieved the sophistication of our own C1000 Typhoon FGR4

Chronograph which is inspired by the RAF’s most advanced fighter jet of the

same name. Any watch in the Christopher Ward aviation collection would be

a welcome gift, but the C1000, with its ceramic case supported by a titanium

Christopher Ward's most technically sophisticated aviationwatch is inspired by one of the most advanced militaryaircraft in the world, the RAF's multi-role combat fighter, theFGR4 Typhoon.

The watch, which is powered by a modified version ofETA's 7750 chronograph movement, is the first in our entirecollection to have a high-tech ceramic case, making theC1000 Typhoon extremely light. Built around a titanium sub-frame for additional strength, the ceramic used is one of themost advanced composites in the world and at seven timesstronger than steel, only a diamond will make a mark on thedurable and highly scratch-resistant surface.

The charcoal black dial, which uses the font of theTyphoon's Head Up Display (HUD) for the SuperLuminovaTM

numerals, carries the RAF's low visibilty baby blue andsalmon pink roundel at 6 o'clock (LV version only) and eventhe outlines of the chronograph eyes have been subtlyindented with the shape of the plane’s after-burners.

The dramatic delta-wing shape of the aircraft is capturedon the counter-balance of the second hand and thedistinctive small forward wings, known as canards, at the tip.

The trademark Christopher Ward deep-etched engravingon the reverse captures the plan of the Typhoon perfectlyand the ensemble is finished superbly with a high densitywebbing strap and titanium buckle.

Before the advent of more modern methods of checkingfor the accuracy of a watch, watchmakers used aregulator clock where the hour, minute and second handsare operated separately, to check their work.

More recently, mechanical regulator watches wereused during Second World War bombing raids whengreater precision was essential. The aesthetic of the C8Regulator has been strongly influenced by this period.

The most important hand, the minute hand, iscentrally located, whilst the hours and seconds can beread from the two sub-dials which are established at thebi-polar points of the dial in traditional fashion. The ‘Old

Radium’ SuperLuminovaTM finish of the hands andindexes adds to the military feel of the watches as doesthe aviation theme of the over-sized crown and thesuperb distressed vintage leather strap. The new Baderdeployment is also fitted as standard.

The 44mm C8 case always makes an importantstatement but it is the reverse of the case on theRegulator which will attract attention. A full-widthtransparent crystal back plate allows the magnificentbespoke hand-wound Unitas 6498 movement to be seenin all its full resplendent glory. An unusual and specialwatch for those of you who prefer not to follow the herd.

In 1954, in collaboration with Pan Am Airways, Rolexdeveloped the first dual-time watch, the GMT Master,which had the incredibly useful function for the airline'spersonnel of being able to tell the time in two separatetime zones simultaneously.

Since then many luxury watch brands have designed

Titanium is a chemical element (Ti) which was discoveredin Cornwall in 1791 by geologist William Gregor. It is asstrong as steel, yet 45% lighter and is highly resistant tocorrosion in seawater which makes it just about the bestcase material possible for a dive watch.

It's not only the case material, however, that makesthe C11 Extreme one of the finest professional divewatches available. We have also engineered the case witha 4.3mm thick AR08 coated sapphire crystal to give waterresistance for up to 1000 metres (nearly 3.300 feet) whichputs this watch in a very small group of watches that havebeen watertight to this depth. The helium release valveintegrated into the case is activated during very deepdives when the differential between the inside andoutside pressure reaches a critical point, preventing thewatch from exploding.

Powered by a certified chronometer version of aSellita SW200-1 automatic movement, adds all importantaccuracy to reliability.

So, this is a watch that very serious divers need tosafely perform under extreme depths. For the rest of us,it is a privilege to have the chance to own such a finepiece of engineering - especially one that looks as cool as the C11 Extreme!

The name Makaira has its origins in the Greek word forsword and it is no surprise, therefore, that it is also thegenus for several types of Marlin. It is also no surprisetherefore, that CW’s newest dive watch takes the nameof some of the strongest, fastest fish in the oceans asthe C11 Makaira Pro 500 is a very, very special watch.

From the superbly constructed satin brushed case tothe beautifully engineered internal countdown bezel,

the Makaira simply exudes the sort of quality aprofessional diver would expect from a timepiece onwhich his life could depend.

Some of us will never put the 735 psi capability ofthe Makaira to the test – but the fact that it is capableof resisting such pressure should we find ourselves 500metres below the surface (heaven forbid) provides acertain reassurance in the shower!
