Slide 6 Service Learning- "a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. (NSLC) Team Based Learning strategies Slide 7 Project One The facility case brief provided students included WLO legacy project background information and criteria relative to on-campus universal design standards with the added requirement that the structure be usable and effective for everyone on campus. Project Two (Competition) Design the facility Slide 8 1. Cover Page-Group members, Project Name 2. Background Information-Factors that brought facility proposal, approval, location, and Why the plan should proceed 3. Mission Statement/Programs/Users, Facility Goals 4. Project Description- Major Planning Areas, Ancillary Space 5. Management/Operations-Planning Methodology Used 6. Guidelines/Standards to follow to Build Facility 7. Timetable-Start and end dates for project 8. Funding-Public, Private, Joint, Amount Required to build (land values, capital reserved for project) Slide 9 Slide 10 "University of South Alabama is a public institution that was founded in 1963 and is dedicated to offering high-quality programs of teaching, research, public service, and health care. Slide 11 USA Campus Additions Slide 12 Universal design places increased emphasis on the critical goal of meeting the needs of as many users as possible. Jaguar Pounce Center attracts all types of jumpers, also athletic who wish to improve their since of flexibility. Students and faculty are encouraged to come out and enjoy our open jump, Intramural Dodge Ball, Air Aerobics and P.E. classes. Slide 24 This is made up of 133 7x14 trampolines placed on the floors and angled for the most fun this campus has ever had. We have 3 padded basketball goals to vertically challenge our patrons who have never lived above the rim. The dodge ball area 11,000 cubic ft. of foam pit to jump in and have fun. Slide 25 Slide 26 The main part of the facility is an outdoor adult playground/workout area that will possibly include: Back Extension, Bounding Bars, Chest Press, Exercise Bike, Hip Twister, Lat Pull Down, Leg Press, Push Up Bars, Self-weight Rower, Sit-up Bench, Ski Walker Double, Step Climber Stretcher, Strength and Stretch Bars, Tai Chi Spinners, Two sided Rotator, Uneven Bars, Waist Stretcher, Swing set, and Climber. Shade tarps will be added to protect the equipment from sun and rain along with protecting the users from sun and rain. Minor areas of the park will be the open area surrounding the workout equipment to the fence along with the cinder sidewalk leading to the entrance of the park. Slide 27 Looked at many parks not only Nationwide but also Worldwide. Slide 28 Slide 29 Slide 30 Slide 31 Adult playgrounds have been popular in areas of Asia and Europe for some time, but these outdoor attractions have been slow to catch on in the United States. The Trust for Public Land brought its first Fitness Zone, a collection of outdoor strength, cardio and balance equipment, to Los Angeles five years ago, and many California communities have also embraced the trend. But it was only this past June that New York opened its first outdoor gym, followed in July by the first of 10 planned projects organized by TPL in Floridas Miami-Dade County. Now freed from the confines of the West Coast, the concept of outdoor exercise areas is poised to take hold nationwide (Attwood, 2012). Slide 32 1. The design is useful and marketable to people with diverse abilities. EQUITABLE USE 2. The design accommodates a wide range of individual preferences and abilities. FLEXIBILITY IN USE 3. Use of the design is easy to understand, regardless of the user's experience, knowledge, language skills, or current concentration level. SIMPLE AND INTUITIVE USE 4. The design communicates necessary information effectively to the user, regardless of ambient conditions or the user's sensory abilities. PERCEPTIBLE INFORMATION 5. The design minimizes hazards and the adverse consequences of accidental or unintended actions. TOLERANCE FOR ERROR 6. The design can be used efficiently and comfortably and with a minimum of fatigue. LOW PHYSICAL EFFORT 7. Appropriate size and space is provided for approach, reach, manipulation, and use regardless of user's body size, posture, or mobility. SIZEABILITY AND SPACE USE Slide 33 USA has embraced green building practices across the system, including the construction of buildings, which have been designed in compliance with Alabama public building regulations for energy efficiency, and even in its parking lots. This has resulted in the following: Internal green standards for new buildings on campus, including the new USA Dining Facility, which opened in early 2011 and is certified as the Universitys first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building. The new Shelby Hall Engineering and Computing Sciences Building, LEED certified and have the latest environmental practices in its specialized laboratory building. Construction of green parking lots at both the Mitchell Center and the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. Slide 34 TGO Green Energy technology Weather proof Mobile phone charging console with USB charger and watt meter No free weights Easy to understand instructional signage with start & finish Accessible to the whole camps community No induction necessary - intuitive & user-friendly Resistance-based equipment - no electricity required, Low maintenance TGO plant a tree in the NHS Forest for every piece of equipment sold Slide 35 Slide 36 Kinetic Energy Exercise Machines Power- lights, oscillating fan, spray mist, charge cell phone Energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
