*When Columbus was 15 years old he became a sailor.

• Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa, coast of Italy.

• In 1490 Columbus got married to Felipa Perestrello e Moniz. They had 1 son named Diego. Columbus lived in Azores.

• Columbus’s real name is Christoforo Columbo.

• Columbus sailed for new routes, gold and captured Indies (Native Americans) as prisoner.

• Columbus also wanted to find a quick way to get to China.

Dates and Routes • Columbus left for his first journey on

August 3, 1492 and came back on October 12, 1493.

* Columbus's 2nd journey was from 1493-1496. this time he had 17 ships and 1200crew members. He explored Cuba, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, and Puertorico. Juan Ponce de Leon went with him on his 2nd journey.

• In 1477 Columbus went north on a ship bound for Ireland, England and Iceland.

*November 1504 Columbus Went back to Spain and he was very ill.

*On May 19th 1506 Columbus died, 13 years after his 1st journey.

*Columbus lived to 55 years.

• The Nina ship was Captained by Vincete Yanez Pinzon.

• Pinta’s the ship was captained by Martin Alonzo Pinzon

• Columbus was inspired by Marco Polo

to sea 6 times.• Once Columbus was not lucky because his ship

sank! He was lucky because his brother (Bartholomew) was a map maker in near by Lisbon.

• Columbus eventually went into his brothers business too.
