CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Whatever happened to spring and summer? Fall is nearer than we think, and we are gearing up for the

2013 Holiday Boutique—a time for fun, fellowship, and raising funds for our important Outreach and

Inreach projects. We’ll be open to the public this year on Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9 and to

church members on two Sundays—the 10th and 17th.The results continue to amaze us… from $1194 raised

the first year to sales of more than $17,000 last year!

It’s not too early to get involved. Beryl Mulhern has already finished her ever-popular child’s quilt for the

auction—along with a dozen other items!

There are lots of ways you can help make the Boutique a success.

Love being creative? We welcome quality arts and crafts—beadwork, pottery, children’s items,

woodworking, sewing, art, photography, greeting cards, candles, gifts for pets—let us know your

specialty!

Join us starting in September for any one of our weekly workshops—meet new friends and help make

interesting gifts. Ideas—yours or from Pinterest—welcome! Sign up to oversee one workshop.

Donate items for the Boutique—24-ounce spaghetti jars; pint-size canning jars, and Bonne Maman

jars—all with lids; pretty baskets; classy costume jewelry, new gifts you would love to “recycle;” tall

Christmas mugs (think garage and estate sales).

Share your skills—at home and on your own timetable. We need people who can sew, crochet, or

knit, woodworkers, skilled artists, jam and jelly makers (now is the time!).

Enjoy cooking? Contribute to the Bake Sale...or help put together soup mixes and cocoa cones on

Saturday, October 12 from 8 to noon. Let Sue Jurack know if you can help or contribute food items

([email protected]).

Work the sale—plant ahead to help with set-up, the sale itself, and clean-up afterward.

Living Healthy Is A Prayer

Time Well Spent

Have you ever stopped and examined how you use your time? As I grow older I am much more aware of how

quickly time passes. It seems like in a blink of an eye, my children have grown up, my dog is over one

hundred dog years old, and I have been a nurse for over thirty-five years…it is amazing!

Do you reflect on times in your life when you felt the most fulfilled or the most at peace with your life? As

many of us reach retirement age, do you ponder new possibilities to not just fill your time but to make the most

of your time? Perhaps it is a chance to give back and help others who are less fortunate than we are. It is

proven that people who volunteer feel their life is much richer --not in a financial sense but in more important

ways. They feel a sense of purpose and pride when they help others.

Oftentimes many of us spend too much time dwelling in the past. Pastor Bill mentioned in his sermon recently

that we can’t go back. The past is over. All we can do is move forward and appreciate our family and friends

at this moment. Don’t harbor resentment and anger for past mistakes or wrongdoings, but take the high road

and forgive and move on. We must surrender our will to God and ask that He search our hearts and

remove unhealthy attitudes that steal our peace. Pray that He fills you with a sense of gratitude and love for

life itself.

A dear friend passed on this thoughtful poem. Take a moment to reflect on how you spend your time and ask

if it is pleasing to God. If today were your last day on earth, would you have lived it to the fullest?

Killing Time

By Leo Rock

How do I kill time? Let me count the ways.

By worrying about things over which I have no control.

Like the past. Like the future.

By harboring resentment and anger

Over hurts real or imagined.

By disdaining the ordinary

Or, rather, what I so mindlessly call ordinary.

By concern over what’s in it for me,

Rather than what’s in me for it.

By failing to appreciate what is because of might-have-beens,

Should-have-beens, could-have-beens.

These are some of the ways I kill time.

Jesus did not kill time. He gave life to it.

His own.

Peace, health, and healing in Christ,

Joni Ledzian

Music Ministry

Rome! Florence! Venice!

Our Chancel Choir is traveling to Italy in 2014 for a choral festival. We'll join forces with other choirs from around the country for a joint concert, sing at a mass at St. Peter's Basilica, and see the sights of Rome, Vatican City, Tuscany, Florence, and Venice. We depart the U.S. on June 14, and return home June 23. Dr. Eric Stark of Butler University is our conductor for these special performances, and he is a rising star in the choral conducting world. An opportunity to work with him is not to be missed! KI Concerts sponsors such concerts and festivals all over the world, and they have arranged this program with groups such as ours in mind. We'll be singing Vivaldi's Gloria, a well-known cantata which we performed in 2011, with other church and school choirs. If we have enough voices in the proper distribution of parts, we'll even be able to sing a set of our pieces on the program. Singers and non-singers are invited to join us for this incredible experience. Joanne Ginster is our trip coordinator. She can be reached at 414-540-0953. Brochures that outline the details of the trip are available at the Welcome Kiosk and at the church office. Come sing with us! Don't wish to sing, but would love to see the sights? Join us!

Summer Choir

Our Chancel Choir and other music ensembles are on hiatus for the summer, but there is still a way you can

come and make a joyful noise. Our Summer Choir will meet before worship to rehearse, and will share a

piece of music during the 9:00 service two more times this summer:

July 28 and August 18: Men and women - meet at 8:30, choir room

Outreach

An Opportunity to Serve

at The Gathering!

Saturday, August 3

We need 15-20 volunteers on Saturday, August 3, to help prepare, serve and clean up after the meal at The Gathering at St. James Episcopal Church, 833 W. Wisconsin Ave. We need to be there by 9:45am, and will be finished around 1:30pm. This is a great opportunity for Youth volunteer hours and for families to serve together! Please sign up at the Outreach Kiosk or online at foxpointchurch.org.

Been Putting off That Opportunity

to Volunteer?

Consider taking dinner to Serenity Inn. Three times

a month our members prepare a meal at home, take

it warm to the Inn, and have dinner and fellowship

with the residents, men in recovery for alcohol and/

or drug abuse. The conversation over dinner is

edifying, especially for our young people.

Our assigned dates are the second Thursday, the

third Friday, and the fourth Wednesday of each

month. Open 2013 dates are these: Thursdays: Sept.

12 & Dec. 12, Fridays: Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15,

& Dec. 20, and Wednesdays: July 24—assist

another family, Oct. 23, & Dec. 25.

Because the number of residents is now likely to be

8 -12, the commitment can be a bit daunting for one

family. You may want to consider signing up with

another family to lighten the shopping/cooking load.

Another Service Day Thank You!

Below is a letter from Shoreline Interfaith client

C. June Johnson

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the

yard work that was done for me by the volunteers

from the Fox Point Lutheran Church on May 18th,

2013. They were Eric, Scott and Randy Lorenz, along

with Paula, Mathew and Brogan Krukar. They all

had a cheerful, cooperative attitude as they went

about their work. I truly enjoyed meeting all of them

and am grateful for their willing help. With

appreciation. C. June Johnson

Youth/Children’s Ministry

To All Interested Babysitters (Age 11 and older)

The church office is often asked if we have a list of

babysitters from our congregation. We are currently in

the process of updating and adding to this list. If you

would be interested in babysitting, please complete and

turn in a babysitter form. Forms are available in the

Welcome Area or email Linda Cole

([email protected]) and she will send one to you.

These contact numbers and address information will then

be included on the list which will be distributed to

interested church families.

Parents who need babysitters…we will let you know

when the list is ready or email Linda at the above address

and she will send you one when it is available.
