The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and with it comes the Magnolia Springs 1st annual Christmas Door Decorating Contest. Residents are invited to “deck the halls” with the Christmas spirit and make the holiday season a little more special and fun. Resident must adhere to the following rules: Door decorating may not begin until Monday, Dec. 3 To be eligible to win a prize, your door must be decorated before Wednesday, Dec. 20th. Do not damage the door or surrounding wall; acceptable adhesive material will be available in the Life Enrichment Department. Decorations may not obstruct or prevent easy access to the office Live greenery (in moderation) is permissible Remember this activity is all about being creative and hav ing fun without incurring unnecessary expenses Decorated doors will be evaluated on three criteria: visual im pact, creativity and craftsmanship. Winners will be announced on December 24th. If you would like to participate, be sure to let the Life Enrich ment Department know. Elf on the ShelfHolidays are a time for traditions and family celebrations.A fairly new addition to the Christmas festivities is knownas the “Elf on the Shelf.” This mischievous elf “appears”several days before December 25th to observe children’sbehavior and report back to Santa so he can update his“Naughty and Nice” list. The resident who locates the Elfthe most between December 17th through the 21st willwin a $50 gift card. More importantly, you must let theLife Enrichment Department know when you have locat‐ed the elf. For more information please contact CodieMonhollen

CULINARY CORNER

Eggnog DipIngredients: • 1 (3.4-ounce) package instant vanilla pud‐ding mix • 1 cup eggnog • 1 (8-ounce) container whippedtopping • Pinch ground nutmeg • Graham crackers or gin‐ger snaps for serving

Directions 1. Combine pudding mix and eggnog in amedium bowl. 2. Fold in whipped topping and nutmeg. 3.Cover and chill until thick. 4. Serve with graham crackersor ginger snaps

RESIDENT HIGHLIGHT

Carolyn TTerra Haute, IN

Carolyn was born in NewGoshen, Indiana, a small townnear Terra Haute. She graduatedfrom Garfield High School, andstarted a career at Western Paperin Terra Haute as a typist. Sheworked at Western Paper for 40years, eventually becoming theAdministrative Assistant to thevice president. Carolyn met herhusband through church. Shetook ten years off work to raiseher two sons. She now has sixgrandchildren. Carolyn moved toGreenwood to be closer to hersons after retiring from WesternPaper. She enjoyed living inGreenwood, making good friendswith her neighbors. Carolyn en‐joys games, reading, picture puz‐zles, and playing piano. Whenasked what her favorite thingabout Magnolia Springs is, shesaid, “It puts a smile on my faceto be here because everyone is sofriendly and nice.”

Dementia: Early Warning Signs As you may know, dementia is not a specific disease. It is an overall term for a complex setof symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease,vascular dementia, and dementia from Parkinson’s disease. The causes of dementia can pro‐duce similar, overlapping symptoms such as confusion, memory loss, and difficulty perform‐ing everyday activities. The early signs of dementia are very subtle and vague and may not beimmediately obvious. Although the signs and progression of dementia vary in each individu‐al, there are some common early symptoms, including the following:

· Memory problems, particularly when remembering recent events · Increasing confusion · Reduced concentration · Loss of ability to do everyday tasks · Disorientation · Displaying poor judgment · Difficulty with language · Differences in mood, personality, or behavior

Thank you for joining us for our Thanksgiving dinner.We served over 430 people this year. It is always good tospend time with friends and family over good food. Pleasebe sure to attend our Christmas party. It looks to be agood time!

On the night of the Christmas party, we will have an areafor donations to our Impact Life Relief Fund. This fundhelps our staff in the event of crisis. They can receive$1000 per year that they do not have to repay. They mustmeet criteria and be a great employee to receive thesefunds. We have been able to help several employees overthe past 3 years with care repairs, purchasing a washerand dryer, and helping with heating/cooling issues at theirhome when necessary. Please donate if you are able.

Cody BDirector of Marketing

Cody was born in Sandy, Utah.He lived there until he wastwelve years old and then movedto Southern California his junioryear of high school. His stepfa‐ther was in the military so theymoved around a lot until Codydecided to settle down in Indianato be closer to his family. Codyhas one sister who lives close totheir mom in Cassville, Missouri.After high school, Cody went toIU and received a Bachelors de‐gree in health science. He is nowmarried to his wife, Becky andthey have four children together-Jaxon, Gracyn, Mason andAustin. He met his wife Beckyback in 2008 on the dancefloor ata bar called Rock Lobster. Threeyears later they got married. Mostof Cody’s life he has worked inthe industry as a competitor butwas later recruited to Magnoliaby our past ED, to come work forher. His favorite thing aboutworking at MS is making person‐al connections with the residentsand their families.
