He reminds us: "The Church must be a place of mercy freely given, where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel. This is what we strive to do and this is who we long to be as a parish community. We want you to know that our doors are always open to you. Whatever your journey has been, no matter how far you’ve gone or how long you’ve been away, you are a part of our family. You are welcome here. Many of us have had our ups and downs with the Church. The Church isn’t perfect. Sometimes it fails to live up to its name, failed to be Christ-like. Some people have been hurt by someone who works for the Church—and we sincerely apologize. Others just can’t believe everything the Church teaches. That’s OK! Together we are the Church. You belong here, because you belong to Christ. Christ welcomes all and we need one another. In Christ’s love, we yearn to understand the true meaning of life, death, happiness and joy. Together we search and journey, praying each week for one another and for the needs of the world. We hold one another close, trying to offer each other respect and kindness in a world that sometimes seems cold and harsh. It is here that we experience the tremendous love of Jesus. We know that life is busy. There are many demands on us all. Being a p a r t o f a p a r i s h community also takes time and effort. But this is time well spent; time that can bring meaning and purpose to the rest of our lives. We need you! You are always welcome here!

This is what we strive to do and this is who we long to be as a parish community. We want you to know that our doors are a lways open to you . Whatever your journey has been, no matter how far you’ve gone or how long you’ve been away, you are a part of our family. You are welcome here.

Many of us have had our ups and downs with the Church. The Church isn’t perfect. Sometimes it

fails to live up to its name, failed to be Christ-like. Some people have been hurt by someone who works for the Church—and we sincerely apologize. Others just can’t believe everything the Church teaches. That’s OK! Together we are the Church. You belong here, because you belong to Christ. Christ welcomes al l and we need one another.

In Christ’s love, we yearn to understand the

true meaning of life, death, h a p p i n e s s a n d j o y .

But this is time well spent; time that can b r i n g m e a n i n g a n d purpose to the rest of our lives.

CHRIST THE KING PARISH CHRISTMASGatheringWe do not come together as a random group of strangers, we are summoned by the love of our God into community. As we gather, we bless ourselves with water as a reminder of our Baptism and that we are the beloved of God.

O COME, ALL YE FAITHFULADESTE FIDELES

stories! For the Gospel, we stand in attentive reverence to hear these words, and we are ready to respond. We believe that Christ “is present in his word, since it is he himself who speaks when the holy Scriptures are read in the church.” (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #7)

Psalm

HomilyProfession of Faith The Creed is more than a list of things which we believe. We use ancient language

and then we express our faith in response. Of course, the words only matter if we live them.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

he ascended into heaven,

from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

PSALM 96: TODAY OUR SAVIOR IS BORNJaime Cortez

This is the day, this is the day, Christ, our Sav ior is born!

To day our Sav ior is born! To day our Sav ior is born!

Text: Luke 2:11, Psalm 96:1–3, 11–13. Text and music © 1991, Jaime Cortez. Published by OCP Publications. All rights reserved.

1. Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is brightRound yon Virgin Mother and child!Holy Infant so tender and mild,Sleep in heavenly peace,Sleep in heavenly peace.

2. Silent night! Holy night!Shepherds quake at the sight;Glories stream from heaven afar;Heav’nly hosts sing “Alleluia!,Christ the Savior is born,Christ the Savior is born.”

3. Silent night! Holy night!Son of God, love’s pure lightRadiant beams from thy holy face,With the dawn of redeeming grace,Jesus, Lord, at thy birth,Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

AWAY IN A MANGERCRADLE SONG

1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

2. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

3. Be near me, Lord Jesus! I ask thee to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care, And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.

Text: 11 11 11 11; verses 1–2, Little Children’s Book for Schools and Families, ca. 1885; verse 3, John T. McFarland, 1851–1913; Gabriel’s Vineyard Songs, 1829, alt.

Music: William James Kirkpatrick, 1838–1921.
