Symbols of Christianity
History of Christianity Christianity started about 2000 years ago in Judea (present-day
Israel) with Jesus Christ and His faithful group of disciples. With this cultural and religious backdrop, the ministry of Jesus
began. Jesus was a Jew. He observed the Jewish faith and was well
acquainted with the Jewish Law. Christians considered Him to be the Messiah. In His early thirties, Jesus traveled from village to village, teaching
in the synagogues and healing those who were suffering. Soon, a faithful group of men began to follow Jesus and call him
teacher. These men became His disciples. Jesus taught His disciples about the will of God and about the
"new covenant" God will bring to humanity through Him.
Basic Duties Study the Bible - Bible study is our only way of learning God's
will and avoiding error. Pray Frequently - Prayer is our means of thanking God, praising
Him, and making known our needs. Commit Yourself to the Local Church - New Testament
Christians always were recognized as part of a local church. Attend All the Assemblies of the Local Church - We should
come whenever the church meets to study, sing, & pray. Help Others Learn the Gospel - All Christians should work to
learn how to lead others to Jesus. Do All God's Will – We should be willing to give our whole life to
the Lord.
